I started watching your videos a couple of weeks ago and I love them. My name is Gregg Barnes and I designed the 2007 limited edition Elina Barbie that you mention in this video (around 8 minutes in...the doll in the center). I am a theater designer (not a doll designer) but I designed a live action version of the Fairytopia film for the stage and the chance to design the doll came about based on that. It was such an honor to work with Mattel who walked me through the process. My sketch for the costume of the actress who played Elina is on the front of the box...and a photo of me is on the back of the box...as a child holding my own Barbie in my parents backyard in San Diego California. They have the price point for the doll nailed down before the doll is manufactured so when developing the prototype you have to choose which elements are most important to you to stay within that price point. For instance if you choose to have lurex in the hair (which i did) you have to sacrifice something else. When they shared the prototype with me (all handmade) before shipping that off as the guide to the manufacturing of the doll...I had a chance to give notes and they made changes accordingly. When the doll was released it was slightly different than the prototype (the main thing being that the colors weren't as subtle as I'd have preferred) but I loved how she turned out...and I'm glad it seems like you did as well. There is a little Bibble in the box! You'll probably never see this post but I thought some of your subscribers might be interested if they read these comments. Keep up the good work!

I’m so happy to have found your comment, Gregg! Do you have article or anything about your experience working on Barbie Live! Fairytopia? There is a niche community of us early 2000 Barbie lovers that would absolutely love to hear from you and your experience working on set! Also, are you aware of anywhere we could pay to view an online recording of the show? (Like BroadwayHD?) There are very limited results about finding information about this performance on Google! Being that many of us were 7 years old at that time of the performance, our nostalgia levels are at an all time high! I also own the Barbie Fairytopia Elina you designed, it’s my “holy grail” doll. Thank you for your brilliant work, and I hope you see this comment and hopefully our community will get the opportunity to hear more from you! ❤

You forgot Thumbelina D': she was so cute ! I also loved so much all her friends, I remember they also did a blue version of Thumbelina (or a character which is not on the movie) the dolls were very original, their faces were so cute with big eyes, they kinda remind me the Pixies from Winx Club ! Yeah Thumbelina "wasn't really" a Fairy, but the vibes of that movie were very unique and even the movie itself was actually a very very good movie ! I liked the fact Thumbelina was literally in the size of a Barbie doll and a litte girl wanted to kidnapp her and play with her like a doll, literally, but they there was a very ecological plot too... a very very good movie with very very good *fairies* dolls !

There's also the Barbie Sawn lake Balerina (2003, Princess Odette)! Her wings, in a hard transparent plastic, they could move and light up when pressing a button. I never was a fan of barbies, but this one has always been precious to me. Her wings looks like the ones on the right here 7:42

the ONLY exception I have for dolls that have jewelry glued to their skin is: if it serves a purpose (ie you can play music if you were to push a button on their necklace or bracelet, for example). if it doesn't have a purpose, then they should've made it so you could remove the jewelry and put it on any other doll.

I used to see those winx dolls which were very pretty but it is a shame that I never got them as a child.
I'm also aware that barbies had fairy versions and I loved them however I never owned a barbie doll. When I was a child my parents never bought me those so instead I would play with barbie dolls from a niece of mine who also happened to own one of the winx dolls from Matel and some friends and at the day care before I turned 8.
Now I'm 28 and will become 29 next month and regret that I never had these.

I have the Mariposa one right at the beginning! She will always be one of my absolute favourites, she is indestroyable! I did so much with her, I took her into the bathtub, I styled her, I threw her down into the garden from the balcony, I threw her onto trees, and so on, and she never really broke (the only stuff that was broken was broken by the previous owner)! 🤩🥰 I have soooooo many memories! 💞💓💖🦋 And her makeup is stunning. ⭐️ I could talk about this doll for ages. 💞 She had pretty huge feet tho… but she was always my main character when playing after I got her. None of my other Barbies could ever beat her. Only this one vintage rhinestone-eyes Barbie could ever come close to her beauty and quality.
I also have the Elina rainbow-like doll in 6:42 at the bottom left. I didn’t like her as much, because her plastic is pretty hard and I never really knew what to do with her, but seh’s fine. 💕 I thought about selling her, but now I more feel like keeping her… 🥲
12:33 I also have the one here on the top left with the brown hair! I got her on my first school day (not in 2012, but in 2014) ever from my parents because I fell in love with her at the store 💗 The doll herself is actually not that amazing, but her wings are nice (I could put them at any Barbie because they were kind of a belt) and she has a nice pair of shoes. Most of the time I played with her she had the role of the evil stepsister tho… 😅
14:03 a girl in kindergarten brought her Mariposa (the one on the top right) to kindergarten one day and the doll was quite cute, but I think the original Mariposa was better. 💕

I like them! I actually got the blue Magic Of The Rainbow doll. I love her design and color scheme. Plus the mini moon thing she came with. Not sure if I saved her when me and my parents were forced to move some years ago. She was in my playroom yet so much of my dolls were in bins and I didn’t have enough time to really search everywhere before our crappy ex-landlord kicked us out for good. I lost so much stuff cause of that jerk including a ton of unopened toys I got over the years (many from the Disney Store that I couldn’t rebuy again because they were no longer in stock) that in total I had spent likely 400 or so dollars on. And yeah I was rightfully pissed on being forced to leave all that behind (as he gave us a short time to move out which actually is against the law when you’re a landlord of a place). Still am tbh. Especially since he brought everything we left to the dump. Yeah you read this right. He took like closet full of unopened toys and a bunch of other stuff in good like condition and brought it to the dump. And yes he could of taken it to like Goodwill or something so they can get new homes but he refuses to bring anything to those places cause (and this in his own words btw) he doesn’t want to give anything to black people. (despite the fact that most people I’ve seen at these stores are white, with the most poc buyers being Hispanic)

I had the Woodland Fairy once and sold her some years ago. She is even more beautiful in real life, there is a little regret that she had to move on.

10:42 I had the one with the teal tights and pink hair when I was a kid!! I think I still have her somewhere, but her wings snapped into a hole in her back since they were a solid piece of plastic, and she smelled like strawberries, like the old Strawberry Shortcake dolls my mom had as a kid from the eighties!! She may also be the reason why I have pink hair and love to wear insanely colorful makeup looks now, as well as Monster High!! 🫶🏻😭

I had Twirling Ballerina Barbie from the 90's, but I don't remember her coming with the pink ribbon. Unfortunately, I accidentally broke her crown off her head while playing with her one day in the 90's, 😢. I loved her outfit though, it was so pretty.

You should do Ballerina dolls! I know the ballerina line is a pretty big one for some people!

I think you missed Bubble Angel Barbie from 1994. She had stiff plastic wings, I think with a tray for the wings. It came with soap or bubble solution for the wings.

I had the 2008 fantastic princess fairy and my cousin got the same doll. She was amazing.
As for forgotten dolls, I did not see Shimmer from Magic of the Rainbow and the Merfaries from Mermadia but they do have very different designs compared to typical Barbie dolls.

I don't know if anyone else clocked it, but the 3rd doll at 7:41 has wings that are a recolored version of the barbie of swan lake wings!

I had the butterfly fairy Christie doll. I remember that you had to clip her wings on to the motor on her back and they flapped. As you said she did come with a zip line, but I lost mine right after I got my doll. I also had the tooth fairy barbie as well.

WAIT A HECK! The doll on the right's wings at 7:40 are just a recoloured version of the wings that the Barbie Swan Lake Odette doll had!
That's probably why she had the older body mould, because the wings had to fit!

God I really hope they improve the newer fairy dolls. The mermaid ones have been all sorts of nice but I love fairies a lot more and definitely want to see the huge butterfly wings make a comeback theyre soo cool

Okay, the 2000 fairy of the forest doll just SCREAMS Wendy Froud. She’s a sculptor who’s mostly well known for her fairies and trolls, she’s got a really distinct style. She also fabricated Yoda, btw.

Funfact the last barbie fairytopia elina doll is believed to be the doll for another sequel which when elina broke the time fabric and meets mariposa! And they both help eachother to help fairytopia to get away from liverna.

My sister's and I have the 3 backup fairytopia dolls. Or I think it's just 2. I clearly remember having the pink one to me mine because it's closer to red, and the blue one for my sister as blue is her favorite color.

I had the pink glitter fairy from 2005 Fairytopia. Yes, she Was one of my favourite Barbies.
Unfortunately just the Rock is Material. The Rest of her clothes is painted on the body and I always found the Sound of her wings a little bit loud.
