S&W Response Recall Update 3/6/2024

  • Just a little info I got from S&W today regarding the Response recall and the fix (who’s doing it mainly)!
    Interesting to hear that the recall repairs are being done by a third party service provider.

    I was at my LGS looking for one to purchase end of March. I couldn’t find em online He couldn’t find one at any distributors. We were both scratching our heads. Online you’d think that when I did the search the first time that the recall would have popped up. I did another search a week later and there it was. I read the reason for the recall and I was shocked how serious it was. Then I decided naaaaaaah. I’ll spend a bit more money and get the Springfield Armory St Victor 9mm carbine. Springfield QC is obviously better since they haven’t had a recall since God knows when. Smart move too since it looks like my St Victor AR.

    Just got mine back last week, sad to say this is my second Response, as the first one fired out of battery and blew up in my hands, definitely lucky that I or my buddy wasn’t injured that day, I hope this fix solves the problem.

    Got my Response back Saturday and shot it on Monday. They either replaced or machined the buffer which looks quite different than the old one. Shot 100 rounds with no issues. Actually felt softer than before repairs. Originally I felt more recoil with the Response compared with the FPC but now I would say they are about the same.

    Thanks for staying on top of this issue. You were the first TH-camr to bring it up and only 3 more tubers have besought it up after.

    I sent mine in on Feb 26 and received it back today March 8. They did ship it back Fedex Ground but it only took one day to go from Massachusetts to Pennsylvania .

    Happy to say I sent mine off on 3/8 and got it back today 3/16 so just over a week there and back. Everything looks good and will run it through the range tomorrow.

      Hard to say, I've been shooting the FPC since the recall came out so my recollection is a bit skewed. Nothing I noticed. Just glad to have her back. Thanks for the material you put out on these PCCs.

    I took mine to FedEx to be shipped out on the morning of 2/26. I received notification yesterday afternoon from FedEx stating that it was at their facility to be returned to me from S&W with an estimated delivery on Friday 3/8. I cannot complain about this turnaround time.

      Mine was about 2 weeks, I expected much longer.

    They did the same thing with mine and iam almost positive they said 2 day delivery back to me would be nice to know what they actually did.

    Just received my firearm back from repairs (3/8/2024, 11 Days). I sent mine in on 2/26/2024. I haven't had a chance to look it over yet to see what they did for the fix. I did get a response back from Smith & Wesson telling me that all firearm repairs are being done at Smith & Wesson and that the tracking and labeling is being processed by a vendor.

    I thought it was strange too. I sent mine on last Wednesday and just got notice they received it today..Sucks

      At least the turn around is some what quick. Mine was 2 weeks.

      No, I wasn’t even asked what it was. It was nothing more than a drop, scan and get my receipt and go.

      They received it on 2/23/24 and sent back to me on 3/5/24. About 2 weeks total.

    I got mine back today from them. Paper only says “repair/recall.” Nothing else

      When I called S&W, the notes on the file only stated repaired. The rep couldn't tell me anything either.

    Maybe I should have gotten fx9. Why do you prefer response over fx9?

      I like S&W, so I would prefer them first.... I do like my FX-9 though.... I wouldn't trade it either.

    They usually ship 2 day to cut down on thefts. I had a Kel Tec .22 blow apart and the repair notes explained everything they did. Come on S&W , at least be as good as Kel Tec 😅

      When I called and talked to the rep, he stated it was unusual to go ground and it should have been 2 day.

    Weird. Mine was Fedex 2 day with signature. Fedex guy was like "is this a rifle?"

      It would be smart if they changed it, They didn't believe me when I called and asked why it was going ground. They looked up the tracking # and were surprised. I don't know, but maybe this got them to change it.

    Fed Ex just left about five minutes ago and I am very confused. Very first thing I tried was charging the gun and pulling the trigger with the chamber flag in. Sure enough there was an out of battery. What was fixed? My paperwork just states evaluate/repair and safety alert repair with no specifics.

      After getting off the phone with S&W they asked me to confirm the 9mm marking on the bolt had a dash on either side of it. Pictures from before I sent it in don't seem to have those markings. I guess the system went down so I have to wait for a response on what to do with my Response but was asked not to fire it in the meantime. Bought the gun in Oct for my birthday then work went crazy before sending it in. I have yet to fire it smh.

      @@UrdogsfleaThis is crazy, when I called last week, I was told all the repair work was being done by third party vendors at S&W. Most certainly explains the screw ups.

      @@UrdogsfleaThere should be a dash on both sides of the bolt markings like this ----- "- 9MM -" marking it as repaired.

      The gun came back with the new dash marked bolt but still fires with the chamber flag in.

    What is the issue everyone is having with the FPC? I have only seen them run fine
