Hey man I just came across your video. I’m located in West Springfield, Mass. I’m interested in getting into pheasant hunting and this was really helpful.
First time hunting pheasant this year. First trip, no luck, second time, I shot two. Both trip, no dogs, just a lot of field walking on the first day, and nothing came out. Second day, I met a hunter with a dog, and he told me if you don’t have a dog, stick close to the channel where there’s water, they typically stay in there, and he was right, I shot 2 pheasant on the second day, both of they flew out of the water channels.
Any type of water can be great for pheasants! Typically water will encourage thick cover to grow around it which birds like, plus they can get a drink whenever they feel the need. Im glad you got into some birds on your first hunts!
New to pheasant hunting here, me and my buddy just got our first one today attempting to rabbit hunt here in SW Ohio and now here I am deep diving learning more about it, do you ever do any calls or anything to locate them or just strictly try to spot or flush them out? TIA!
Ive been wondering about calls myself recently since you’ll hear them crowing every so often. I’d bet they’d work well if you could get a bird a vocalize back to you!
This is perfect man. I’m new to hunting and live in SE Mass, so this is exactly the stuff I need to know.
Glad i could help!

Its a tough way to do it, but it’s definitely manageable and can be very rewarding!
Appreciate the education. Going tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed.

Monty volunteered to go with you!
Monty would haul ass away from me if he heard a gunshot 😂
Great pointers, but if possible find a friend with a good dog.
Still working on that one 😂😂
Why are you shooting hen pheasants?
In MA they’re stocked and there’s no regulation on gender, just a 2 bird limit. We don’t have any wild birds here.
I use forest fires
