I appreciate that! I tried to make this video a bit longer on purpose just to show more of the dogs working. I know when I’m watching hunting videos on here a lot of what I’m watching for is just the dogs working. We all know the end result will be a bird getting shot.
Great dog work. I have had 2 Llewellyns, just lost my first one a month shy of 16. She did it all! I adopted another age 7. She hunts well, tracks and points but has no interest in retrieving. At her age( now 8) I am not going to force fetch train her. Would you have any suggestions? Thanks very much.
First off, so sorry to hear about the one you lost.. I dread that day every hunting trip we take.. as far as retrieving, if you watch my earlier videos Larry would not pick up a bird. He would retrieve balls, toys, etc.. so I started by taping one pheasant wing on a toy.. once he was picking up that, we’d do two wings. Then when hunting came along I’d bring birds home and work with him in the yard a ton. Simply picking up the bird I’d give him a treat. Basically any interaction with them I’d reward him. He slowly learned that engaging with the bird he’d get a treat. I’d have to throw pheasants at first to get him to bring them back, but after a while he’d pick them up after the shot. It was a long process, but very worth it. Best of luck, it’s frustrating, but no matter what, the dog will do what it wants lol!
Thanks for your reply, I’ll keep working with her. She really loves to hunt, has a lot of drive. I need to work with her more and keep at it. Have a good rest of the season!
Larry is 2, Marty is about 4.. I hope both those guys can hunt when they’re 11! If they’re this good now I can’t imagine what they’ll be after that much more experience.
Your dogs are mesmerizing to watch!

Remarkable dogs to be hunting with!
Remarkable dogs in general, they’re two of the best!
Beautiful dog work!
Appreciate that, but don't be fooled, there's some less than beautiful dog work that doesn't make the video lol
@ haha, the editing gods!
Ooooh! Scotch double opportunity at 3:23! Haha
A missed opportunity for sure.. with those winds howling I was happy to get one, someday we’ll hit the scotch double.

How old are your dogs? I've been hunting a Llewellen for about 11 years

that dog ate to much sugar, he was buzzing around like a wild dog full of energy.
This video is somewhat tame! Marty has unlimited energy and he only operates at 110% speed. It’s almost nauseating to watch lol.
