Great reaction. As they toured the world they were very touched that their foreign fans had clearly been learning the Japanese lyrics to their songs to sing along with them. They decided they must do something to show their appreciation and to reciprocate, so they challenged themselves to learn a song completely in English. 'The One' is that song (although the original which is on the Japanese release of the second album was a half and half English-Japanese song - the international release had the full English version). It is a tribute to the fans (who they also named The One of course). This is effectively their love letter to 'The One'.❤ This is the official video, so it has the half and half Japanese-English version and spectacular staging with Su, Yui and Moa floating above the audience in a red triangle or pyramid at Yokohama Arena. The flying triangle / pyramid .... their producer asked them what they would really like to do on stage - they told him they wanted to fly. This was the solution - and it also got them so much closer to so many more people in the crowd (Moa has said she always feels sorry for the people right at the back of the arenas being so far away from the stage - here is one way to bring the stage closer to them, which was also very fitting seeing what the song is about). They said the hardest part about flying above the crowd was not the height, it was carrying on with the choreo when they really wanted to just wave at everybody ... and I think it was Moa who said she tried not to look down too much as she was afraid her tears of happiness would fall on the people below. There are different live versions: - the acoustic version is just piano and string accompaniment. 'The One- Stairway to Living Legend' is probably the best example and very emotional since that was how they announced in October 2021 that they would be going on a hiatus for an indefinite time. - On The First Take they did an 'unfinished' version (same as the acoustic version but just the first verse) - The full instrumental version (either full English or half and half Japanese-English) was the last song on the album and followed on from their Prog Metal masterpiece 'Tales of the Destinies'. The (extended) Tokyo Dome performance was very special. - At some live shows they would start with the acoustic/unfinished version and half way through the Kami Band would come in with the instrumentals to finish it as the full version. The most dramatic performance was probably at Legend S in Hiroshima in December 2017 for Su-metal's 20th birthday. At Wembley Arena in 2016 a lot of fans had arranged that when they played 'The One', at a certain point of the song they would all hold up their own national flags to show how people from so many countries were united by BABYMETAL as 'The ONE'.🦊
Such an amazing performance. I can barely imagine the logistics of setting the flying pyramid up. And among Babymetal's many super powers, no fear of heights. Great selection.
Nice one! This is an amazing tribute song to Babymetal’s entire fan base, collectively known as “The ONE”. They later did an English only version because the girls were touched by how many western fans who learned the lyrics to sing along at shows. 🫡 Babymetal 🤘🦊
Thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。One thing is certain. If you are acrophobic, you cannot be a member of BABYMETAL 😄. Some people said this song was a little bit too repetitive. But in their live performance you feel as if the length of this song were only 30 seconds and want to listen to it forever. I witnessed it performed more than 10 times at venues. Whenever they performed this song, I saw ethereal beauty and heard angelic voices. Su's current matured and richer voice gives you different feeling, I guess. To me, this 2015 version sounds like a call to their fans and recent version sounds like embracing us all.
Can’t wait to see you react to “Night Night Burn”. One of my personal favorite Babymetal songs of all time and in my opinion one of their most underrated. It mixes in latin/salsa music and it’s so much fun! Thanks for another great reaction!
