For me you chose exactly the correct bike. The more capable the bike, the more I can attack a trail and, simply put, the more fun I can have. I just don’t subscribe to this idea I hear all too often, that a lesser bike can be better. It just can’t. If that were the case, everyone would be descending on Tesco trolleys.
Thing is, for the full loop, I’m not convinced that the Alpine is the better suited. For the descents then yes, it’s obviously far more capable than the hardtail but there’s a fair bit of climbing and traversing where the hardtail makes it more pleasant. Plus, the descents aren’t overly technical really. I’m not the sort of person to go under-biked as some kind of weird flex (videoing or not); I will usually decide by a combination of what the ride is like and what I fancy riding really. For what it’s worth, I have done this loop more times on the Alpine than on the hardtail (not had the P7 that long, and it’s way more capable than my other one).
I had an alpine . i recently got a stage evo. Its the 29er 130 front 120 rear and its absolutely amazing. It climbs like a hardtail but its not back breaking on the downs. I've not ridden anywhere on it yet where i wish I had more travel. So much so that i sold my alpine.
I nearly went for a Stage when I got the Alpine , sounds like I should’ve given it more consideration. I do love the Alpine though, it’s just that of late, I find myself loving the P7 more 😀
Great video mate, i can't wait to get back on my alpine, love the ht but you always miss what you don't have haha, if i was going Spain with you, i would probably just swap the wheel over from the ht, but i'm not going 😭😭, i'll definitely try and save some holidays for next year. Good ol' Nemo, helping to toughen your hands up for Spain 🤣
I do love riding the Alpine although if I am honest, prefer the P7 at the moment; no way I would take it to Spain though. As for Nemo, grabbing my hand is his favourite game 🤣
It really does make a difference doesn’t it. I remember going in a big group years ago and a couple of the lads were more XC oriented, both fit lads, and they assumed that because it’s mostly uplifted, it’d be easy. They were shocked! Base fitness is really important but it’s your arms and thighs that really feel it.
Good trail would love to see gpx, I would ride that on my Cotic Solaris rather than my orange five just for the climbing aspect. In fact I would probably have a go on the gravel bike if it was part of a longer route but would definitely be slower through a few sections. Enjoy your overseas trip
@@Stopadoodledoo hi I don’t have a Strava account just free version as I use os maps and Komoot when I search clubs or friends it does not show up how do I find you , alternatively could you post gpx link to Strava as I think I could then save to files and upload. Thanks Steve
I had a great day on Marc’s hardtail there. Even if the brakes were made of chocolate!
It wasn’t even good chocolate 🤣

Went out yesterday on the HT and loved riding it again. Sometimes a change is as good as a rest 👍
Absolutely mate, it’s great to have the choice and ability to too 👍

All about getting out mate, HT or full suss, it doesn't matter too much! Enjoy Spain matey 😊
Too right mate and thanks, can’t wait to get out there 👍
I ride Morzine every year usually 7 days on the bounce so train for about 6 months to get fit enough to do it

9min 40 you nearly wasnt going to Spain 😱. Glad your ok 👌
I crash on almost every ride mate, wrist was a bit funky after this one though (although totally fine now) 👍

It’s a cracking loop, I did record it on Strava (search for channel name). Not sure I’d fancy it on a gravel bike… 😀

love the video would you share the GPX of your ride please
Thanks mate.
For the gpx, I recorded the ride in Strava (don’t do that often nowadays), search for Jason Thomas (Stopadoodledoo) 👍
Stop messing about where the hell is your SUNDAY hahahah
