I knew the name sounded familiar, then when you mentioned the dynamite explosion I remembered where I knew it from. My great- great uncle was killed in that explosion. He was 21 years old and close in age to my great grandfather at the time. We're from McKean County, so I guess the oil companies were probably recruiting workers up there and took them down to Lancaster. It must have seemed like a good way for a young man to make a nest egg.
Wild phlox, Virginia bluebells, box turtle, songbirds,quarry, Columbines, foundation stones, saw,covered metal detecting digs! You are observant as them!
drove through there today. my kids like to hike then drive up the rough side of the road.. i live like a mile from there and its a great area with great hiking from pinnacle to houserock to wind cave and safe harbor great area
At the old railroad bridge stonework where the stone column in the stream is located there was a pipe crossing here. In the winter you can see the end of the pipe sticking out of the bank.

I grew up on the other side of river (York county) and we always called our side schenks ferry too
I think it is very important to walk through the woods &name the flowers , find small animals and help me remember my childhood . Thank you .
Went out here metal detecting today. Found lots of spent shells. and a few live ones. And lots of 1970's pull off can tabs.

Me too! I like turtles! Phlox are my all time favorite, both wild & in the garden, both creeping & the tall. So fragrant & bloom into the autumn.
I've seen similar milk houses using a spring for cooling/storing dairy products :) maybe

the cement parts along the road were probably to stop erosion when it rushes down
