Some other nominee oddities that I feel are worth mentioning:
-Wii Sports was nominated in 2013, which is hilarious since its sequel got a nomination 3 years prior
-1 of 2022's nominees was not Roblox, but rather Brookhaven, some game inside Roblox. Later in 2023, it got nominated again, alongside another Roblox game called Adopt Me!, thus meaning Roblox was technically nominated twice.
-Madden was nominated again this year, the first time since it's '06 streak stopped in '08
-The only times Just Dance hasn't been nominated since it first appeared in 2011 were 2020 and 2021 (which had Pokemon Go as a nominee)
-2015 had the tag-line "Most Addicting Game", which also had a nomination for Candy Crush Saga. Before this, 2013 and 2014 had a category for mobile games called "Favorite App"; it's winners were Temple Run in '13 and Despicable Me: Minion Rush in '14.
Super Mario Maker was nominated in 2016, so I largely believe that whole set-up was initially meant for that before Just Dance 2016 won
Since it's first nomination in 2014, some form of Minecraft (whether the original, Story Mode, or Java Edition in 2018) has been nominated every year except for 2019
Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga and Mario Galaxy were nominated in 2012 despite they were both released in 2007!

I remember waiting on the phone for half an hour to vote for Spider-Man in 2003. Imagine how pissed I was when it didn't win.
I remember watching the Victorious premiere episode after one of the KCAs and just realizing that I'd gotten too old for it lol

I'm betting a lot of the nominees were chosen based off what the executives' kids were playing at the time, with no regard to year or overall quality. There are some actually solid picks, and like you mentioned, you can imagine a friend owning these games. But, seriously, Frogger 2?
Also, Spongebob games winning just felt like Nick giving theirselves a pat on the back.

Okay I could understand games that didn't come out the same year of the Choice awards being nominated and winning more than once up till the early 2000's but I cannot believe they kept doing it throughout the KCA's entire run. It just feels like they didn't care.

It’s crazy how they put so little thought into the entire video game section while also organizing countless big celebrities to come to the show, I guess that’s where all their attention went.

While I always preffered cartoon networks cartoons as a kid Nick's early style was just so perfect at the time. The colors the slime the whole vibe feeling felt really like what kids wanted and I regret not tuning into most of the award shows, they seem like such a blast

The Sliminator clip shot me back. Pretty sure that was the first Choice Awards I watched, I was probably 5-6 at the time. Great video as usual Junko.
It's so funny watching stuff like this from the 90s and 2000s, where celebrities and TV executives who've never picked up a controller in their lives pretend to understand what video games are. It leads to them mispronouncing Mario, nominating games that were already years old, giving it to the same game twice in a row, splicing together footage of two different Pokemon games and giving GOTY to NBA Jam over Mario 64.
