I don’t quite get the role play videos - the previous video to this would be more my cup of tea. But this really dovetails with the placebo affect of attention in the medical setting. Basically - patients who avail of non-scientifically proven forms of therapy like homeopathy and acupuncture generally self report an improvement in symptoms after. Research has put this down to the extra personal attention that those practitioners tend to be able to pay patients over proper doctors. Have you read up on it?
I'm with you on that one. I much prefer non role play videos while I'm listening to ASMR, but role plays are incredibly popular so I would like to know more about the reasons why. I haven't read any research on this, and this applies to psychology, but there's definitely literature on the benefits of talking therapy vs just pushing pills in the medical field. It's definitely something I'd like to look into though.
Leah Whispers ASMR I’ve a theory that most people are uncomfortable with the intimacy formed by the video subject and the viewer in more natural videos. I think a role play creates a barrier from reality and keeps the intimacy on a superficial level to which people have become accustomed via traditional media. Maybe some people just aren’t comfortable inspecting all the tiny features of a married woman in detail, whereas if it was a role play and that person was playing the part of a beautician, well that’s just theatre basically which is more socially acceptable. Just a hypothesis!
