    On the placement of the front wire, I think they put it there to help protect it and that's why it sits right behind the front axle I mean they had to put it somewhere and needs to be protected for limbs / rocks and so on

    I had a 2021 sportsman trail that stopped working after the 4th ride down regular flat florida dirt trails. When I took it back they were just going to keep replacing the part in the clutch everytime it wore out every 4 rides. They tried upgrading it to a heavier spring and it ruined the ride quality, you had to Rev the engine to 1800 to get the gear to catch. The shifter was also constantly getting stuck.

    I have the same machine. One thing I've noticed on the 21 model is some have LED lights or not, some have the stitched seat or not. I noticed you have different springs than I do, mine are painted and adjustable. I love the steel blue I don't know why it was only available 1 year

  • @jsnokhous
    @jsnokhous 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Great job on this review. I’m going to get a quad later this year and I’ve narrowed it down to the sportsman 850, king quad 750 and grizzly. The sportsman is what I want but the flaws in the design and lack of quality in areas is making me lean king quad. Sucks because the sportsman is so dang nice.

    • @TheDakotamag
      @TheDakotamag  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A king quad is one of the few bikes I have yet to ride so I can’t speak to their quality. I have heard great things though! I am a firm believer that every single machine will have annoying quirks no matter what brand you pick. Even with the issues I spoke on, I’d still buy this machine again!

    • @TheDakotamag
      @TheDakotamag  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      And as for the Grizzly, literally my only complaint is lack of power. It’s a single cylinder and not a true 700cc. It’s a nice machine, but a little tame in my opinion compared to the twin cylinder machines out there. Either way, good luck shopping!

    • @jsnokhous
      @jsnokhous 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree, they all seem to have their downfalls. I went and checked out a new grizzly and king quad at a dealer. Both had 2 up seats on them. The comfort and practicality of riding 2 up between these was hands down better on the king quad. The grizzly foot wells are small, seat is short and the passengers butt sits behind the axle. The new king quads have noticeable more power from what I hear, haven’t ridden either.
      Between the sportsman and king quad the pros on the sportsman seem to be suspension, storage and more power. Pros of the king quad over the sportsman is build quality, lower maintenance and reliability.
      Granted I haven’t owned any. This is just based on hours and hours of research. My background is MX. 35 now and giving that up.
      Subscribed to your channel, I’ll look out for the next video!

    • @jessecameron7268
      @jessecameron7268 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I traded in my 2019 750 kingquad with power steering for a sportsman 850 premium and couldn't be happier! The comfort and power isn't even close. Plus I thought the power steering on the kingquad sucks, could barely tell it was there. I did have 26 inch itp terracross on the kingquad which is kinda heavy, maybe had an effect on the power steering. The seat on the kingquad is real stiff also compared to the sportsman.

    I love trail riding on any machine and I've owned just about everything at one time or another. Honda and Polaris have always done me right. I had 2 emergency back surgeries two years ago and I'm disabled now so I have (damnable) considerations I have to take into account such as comfort, ease of use and maintenance and reliability. I test rode everything 3 months ago and am ordering a PoPo 1000. I can ride that thing all day and not be miserable the next lol. Very comfortable machine, and the AWD is crazy good compared to the 3 wheel 'C'mon Visco, please gimme 4wd' system of my Can Am I just sold, not to mention (tho the shocks were amazing) it was uncomfortable to ride for more than 2 hours at a time and I paid the price the next day. Not sure which trim level yet but I'm liking the ultimate trail quite a bit. Might get my girl the 570 UT or the 850. She's not new to the life but she's a little thing so I'm thinking the 570 would be fine but I wouldn't mind having a backup like the 850 in the stable for property work backup if I send the 1000 to the shop.
    Very well thought out look at the Con's of this machine in your vid, but I feel like they are all easily remedied. Thanks for putting this vid out, brother 👊 Subscribed 👍

    I have 6 hours on my 2021 850 premium.. My rear sway bar moves to the right about a 1/4 inch so I will put a collar like you said.. I noticed the bike dives heavy from the engine brake so I stiffened the pre load on all corners..The power is awesome, and I feel it is in the "zone" with a 1000.. Surely 12 horsepower is not worth 2500 plus dollars..The exhaust sounds great stock, but may be a bit throaty for sneaking into a hunting stand.. My neighbor says it sounds like a Harley Lol... All in all a great quad and very happy so far.. My buddy has a 2020 Sportsman 1000 and we switch off now and then when riding... There is NOT a significant difference power wise... 1000 owners with big egos love to think so, but simply not true..

    • @TheDakotamag
      @TheDakotamag  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Honestly the power is borderline ridiculous! I’ve topped it out at 83mph and it got there in an absolute hurry. The clutching on this bike is a little bit more mild compared to the Outlander so it doesn’t feel overwhelming. The outlander pulls super hard off the line becauses it is clutched pretty aggressively from the factory, while that’s fun, it’s not always practical for some of the tight trails I ride. Bottom line, Yes, this definitely has plenty of power, even switching to these heavier tires and wheels.

    For the people out there asking if the 850 has enough power, this is coming from someone who in their 20's had a Banshee (95 mph top speed) and a Honda CR 250 2 stroke dirt bike. My brother recently retired from the Army as an E-8 and bought a 30 acre ranch in the foothills of the mountains in NE Georgia. I went stayed a week out there this past spring and he has a 2021 Sportsman 850. 45 years old now and I never even felt the need to top it out. Plenty of pep all through the power band! As someone who had never ridden a 4-wheeler with power steering I'll never buy one w/o it now. His wife has a 450 Sportsman without power steering and it's an ogre on the trails! As far as the tires I found them perfectly capable for trail riding and unless mudding is your thing your just putting extra stress and wear an tear on your machine with oversized ones. As far as the exhaust of course I like the throaty and loudness of aftermarket ones but here in Louisiana we call them cop callers! I like to just trail ride nowadays and don't want kens or karens attention and especially the polices attention so I would probably leave that as is. It's hard enough to find places to ride as it is so don't want to attract unwanted attention. It really does sound fine. Your rims do look really fire but when I buy one myself I'll probably install a new performance ECU and a K&N air filter and call it good! Stay safe out there!

    Hi,
    I m on the way to buy the sportsman 850 touring. My only concern is the ebs system. Do you know if the 850 ebs is more or less agressive than the pokaris 570 or the outlander 850? I think the seat feels cheap and feel like it will rip easy, completely comfortable

      So far it’s holding up to my abuse, but I definitely want to see about swapping it out for the stitched seat in the near future

      We mainly ride all of the trails that are part of the Famous Reading Outdoors trail system, but we also go to AAOA and Mountain Ridge sometimes too.

      We have two in our group. It’s a great machine. Very reliable and gets the job done, but if you’re looking for excitement the power is just nowhere near the big bore quads. Still a fun ride none the less.

    I own a 22 and tbh the you should t ride aggressively if you don't hold yourself on the bike like you can't expect to stay in the same spot if your moving around so much your bashing the shifter maybe stop riding

    • @TheDakotamag
      @TheDakotamag  ปีที่แล้ว

      I read this and decided you’re so right. I’ll put all my machines on marketplace tonight and never ride again! 😂

    Everybody complains that Yamaha, Suzuki,Yamaha or Kawasaki don't make quads as big as can am or Polaris. But u get quality and dependability over hp... can am and Polaris are way behind in fit and finish

    I got a 21 850 Ultimate trail. And it was 16k CAD. There aint even any grease points on it. They are cheap and poorly designed.

    • @TheDakotamag
      @TheDakotamag  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Really? That’s odd. My machine has grease points everywhere. Roughly 20 or so.
