Is there so much fresh water in Hawaii that this water can't be redirected for personal, farm or agricultural use? I have never seen this, however looks like a spectacular waste of fresh water...
The cars in the background are on the right side so I'm guessing Hawaii Edit: It is, it's on Oahu. The Wikipedia article mentions it, and the satellite images show the river not fully reaching the ocean
It happens naturally also. They just opened when the river was ready to burst over. The waves will seal it up as soon as river levels drop again. Happens every year
@@notactuallyabot lol, a rip is a under tow current under the waves and can take you out to sea if it's strong enough, which they can be very strong. They will literally sweep you off you feet. Did that answer your question?

If you have a river. And this beach typically goes back to normal in a week. If the video was longer you would have seen the opening get 10x bigger with ALOT of flowing water
When the water level in the river gets low the high tide and surf deposit sand in the mouth and seal it over. Months can go by and sea continues to make the sandbar higher. Eventually the rainy season will return and the river gets refilled and then the water builds up behind the bar. Then it will make it over the bar and the water starts to flow and remove the sand until it is open again. People can jump start it once the river is higher than tide line and partially full, and if you live in a warm place, play in the flow.
