- I do not encourage anyone to enter culverts, unclog anything, or enter flooded areas as it can easily become deadly without the proper training
I unclog drains for fun in my spare time (I have been trained in culvert inspections for years with private co.) and I am osha trained.
Exploring anything abandoned can be dangerous or deadly without experience. I don't encourage anyone to enter any abandoned structures. Not only is safety a concern, but often times its illegal, and when possible I seek out permission from the owner or local police. I simply go to document its history before it's gone forever and I leave things the way I find them. I only take pictures and only leave footprints. I assume all the risks and responsibility before doing this. Please don't attempt to do this on your own. There could be nails, asbestos, falling concrete, soft floors, animals, or other hazards. Son, I can tell you NEED to do this...but EVERY year of my career in NFS I have had to pull out bodies from 18 inches of frozen over running water. This was a typical situation of how those incidents occurred.

This was an especially dangerous one, and as he said it was just for fun and didn’t help anybody. He really shouldn’t have done this. I don’t think he grew up in a cold climate, because if he did he’d know that the way he was doing it was pretty reckless.

i was so nervous watching this but i know that post10 is a real pro!!! i don't have any experience with frozen lakes or knowing about thickness of layers, etc..
@@avargs3505 one rule of thumb is that you never go alone on unknown ice. But you should also not be too afraid, ice is very tough and you don;t break through it easily. It cracks easy, but it doesn't break. I grew up in a waterland , with good ice in winter. It was always so much fun to be among the first walking / skating on ice, it makes a lovely singing sound when the cracks form. These cracks are not a sign that it is unsafe, it just means that tensions that have been formed during freezing resolve when the weight of a human is added to the ice floor.
But caution is still needed and if you are not experienced you should only go when somebody with authority on the matter says that it is safe. Animals and understream currents can cause weak spots in an otherwise very safe ice floor. But with experience you learn how to recognize those situations.
In what way? Placing himself at risk and potential emergency services if he fell through that ice? Nothing to admire being fool hardy.

Ice and moving cold water together can be so dangerous. Even if there's not enough water for drowning, if you get stuck you might freeze to death. I hope and think he knows what he is doing. And we know he's not the careless type. But even the most experienced can end up in situations that were hard to foresee. I'm thinking about people I know personally. But also youtuber apetor who was so experienced.

I lived by a river and I chased a ball onto the river. I fell thru, and under the ice I went.
The mailman was bout 200feet away, ran down to where there was a small opening and grabbed me when i came out from under the ice.
He saved my life. He received 2 life savings awards.
Please, be careful on frozen running water!

@@grashoper107 Yeah. I have spent a lot of time in the north of Sweden. Upon ice fishing once, the toddler son of a cousin of mine went through thin (due to a slight current forming where a smaller lake ends in a creek which leads to a bigger lake) ice and started to slowly drift away under thicker ice. My cousin threw himself in the hole and manage to grab the kid by his hood and pull him out. The normal thickness of the ice is 3 feet. And the Creek was all covered with thick ice too due to water level dropping over time in the winter. In the summer the two lakes are one. Long story. But that was my cousins best day of fishing ever.
As someone who hit in the eye with a shard of ice as a child when I was trying ice fishing for the first time, I must say: wear eye protection.
Don’t eat yellow snow. Don’t run with scissors. Don’t beat your wife.
Wear gloves, the ice can be sharp.

Looks safe to me, the furthest the water will get is to your hips even if you did fall through
@@nickjeffrey8050 There are plenty of ways here to get hurt. He could slip and break an ankle or hit his head and lose consciousness. He could hurt himself with the axe while slipping. He could fall through ice and get stuck partly under water and get hypothermia, while trying to free himself. Drowning is not a risk because of the depth, but it becomes a real possibility once you're stuck or unconcious - even if the water is only 2 feet deep.
I like that he is more embarrased at what the shirt says than the fact he found it on the side of the road. This guy is great.

My brother's first job was at Piggly Wiggly. He was THRILLED to see someone still wearing a "Big on the Pig" shirt. It was a BIG chain back in the day. Our tiny city of less than 30k people (at the time) had TWO of them! Now, the nearest one is nearly 50 miles away.

Always let someone know exactly where you are going and when you will be back. Mobile phones are handy but useless when they have been in water. Pack some extra food and something to light a fire, especially if the spot is very remote.

The burp at 7:50 was hilarious. While watching many of these videos I'm struck by the utter lack of planning which I suppose promotes the idea that just about anyone can do this, but there is a modicum of practiced safety and awareness of danger I suppose. Because of the reactions you've had to the littlest of things ie beaver spiders holes, I'm loath to suggest you don't take some precautionary measures. There are thousands of ways to get to the tops of mountains. As long as you get to the top, you've accomplished the task. Good on ya!

Post, I live in Townsend MA and there’s this small culvert next to the Hannafords that’s pretty much fully clogged, if your ever in the area once it starts melting and getting warmer it’d be a cool one to see get cleared when there is a backup of water.

Which state in New England was this filmed in? I’m a New Hampshire Native and I’ve seen ice dams like this more times then I can count in my life and just like him, I found it fun to break them up. You just brought me back to my childhood and for that I’m appreciative, love you Post 10!

Growing up where I did, I would see people attempt things like this and slip under the ice in a river. They would normally be found several months later. Be careful about what you are seeing people.
I felt anxious just watching him walk on that frozen river, and then when he climbed into the culvert, I was worried for his safety. Then I remembered that somebody had to upload the video afterwards, so he must have survived. But anyone else attempting to do this *might not*.

This takes me back to living in CT. As a kid we used to do this stuff all the time for fun, love that you never grew out of it Post. Also worked as a surveyor for many years in New England as well, nothing like a pristine winter day to make you feel good. All these people saying your going to get hurt or worse are the types that never get out of there damn house and experience anything. Just be careful, maybe grab your self some goggles for when your smashing the ice? Getting something in your eye can be a bad day, maybe consider getting your self a sledge hammer or a few other tools, just to be careful. Anyone can slip and fall and be on the receiving end of a bad day. Love the videos, and your enthusiasm.

Since you carry a firemans (pickhead) axe, the pick side should penetrate unbroken sheets better without glancing off, then once it's fractured go back to the axe side
I was thinking that as well, just use the pointy end to break through, make a few of them along where you want to break, then flip over to the blade side and go along the dotted line for an easier break.
I know this sounds crazy but when I was a firefighter, to open up a roof if you took a regular flathead axe and turned it around it worked surprisingly well, that's how I used it most of the time from then on or a saw lol.

@@nickjeffrey8050 my knees are gone, before I became a firefighter I had 4 knee surgeries, then 2 while I was a firefighter, 1 I came back from, the last one just really took alot out of my strength and mobility. It wasn't from trying but there's a tremendous amount of crawling and climbing that was just a revolving door for further knee damage. The absolute last thing I wanted was to be a liability to my brothers, get injured and you call a Mayday and it's like a Moth to a flame, you got folks coming to get you and I couldn't bare the thought someone getting hurt or worse coming to get me. I've got 2 kid's, I'm a single dad ...(firefighting can be hard on a marriage) it just was the writing on the wall, I figured that I had some decisions to make...it wasn't easy. To this day, a fallen firefighter hurts, I get cold chills hearing a Q Siren and Horns just giving it, I'll always hold firefighters in the highest regard and respect. It was a amazing opportunity to be able to do it for the time I did, almost 10 year's. I still see thing's go down I'll jump right in it and see what I can do, especially before anyone's gotten on scene, you never know what you come across in everyday travels, from car accidents to cardiac arrests.

That honestly looks like such a grand time. I wish we had more ice dams up here, but they get removed pretty quickly!
Right now, I'm super enjoying the sounds of the ice being wrecked and the shards run down the side of the dam, it's so relaxing, plus seeing you get to break it all up with the axe looks like mad fun! Like a rage room but you don't have to worry about the stuff you break being recycled! Also for the videos, please don't be afraid to take a break, with your condition, you don't have to go go go all the time and work up your body heat so much! Plus seeing some of the ice get cleared away to reveal a big dip, MAD satisfying!

@@ShroudedinLove It's something about his body's ability to regulate temperature. I wish I had listened to the post & read the comments more carefully! It's not fatal or anything, but it is very uncomfortable, I guess. I *think* he easily overheats and then has to take a break to cool down. Several "fans" (😁) commented that they had the same or a similar condition. (A condition that has a name 🙄 I can't think of it right now...) The only reason he mentioned, he said, was because he has to pause pretty abruptly from time to time & he didn't want TH-camrs thinking he was getting lazy. 😄😂 (As if...)
His take on it seemed to be that it was mostly just inconvenient. After he rests for a while, and as his body temperature approaches the normalish range, he can get back to what he was doing. If I remember correctly, he usually has to go through the "reset" process once & he's good for the rest of the day.

I'm from Florida. I've never experienced ice like that or temperatures you're out in so it's a little hard for me to grasp. But I am interested in culverts now and look for them when out walking.

I live in Australia and my family used to always go on holidays to ski every few years. Watching this made me really miss the cold and being outside in the snow. Love your videos! I'm a big fan of anything even remotely like this.

pretty cool brother . ice is always fun to pay with . i lived in grand rapids most of my life and the river behind 6 street dam would always freeze up . you would see huge sheets of ice trying to come over the dam in the spring when things started to melt . always wanted to try to walk across the river on that ice but was always to scared to try lol . its not the ice that scared me it was the falling through into that ice cold river that scared me lol . take care work safe and say hello to ghost ten for me .
