I remember back in the day me and friend, me as soviet and his allied. He was about to win. I have no longer building base and vehicle factory. Only barracks, I build all my funds into conscript then sold everything and rush to his base. Have only 3 rhinos, 2 rocket trucks, 2 flaks and about 30+ conscripts. To my surprised, I've won. He had prism so I scatter my conscripts and front line my tank units to take down his prism and power building with my rocket truck, then his prism towers are dead. My 3 star conscripts are raping his units and buildings lol.

Not to mention that the Germans invaded through the Ardennes in the first world war yet French commanders still thought the forrests were a suitable deterrent.
The Grand Cannon always seemed like the weakest of the nation-specific units to me. Rate of fire was too slow and it really didn't do the kind of damage it would need to in order to justify that low ROF
It made for a good, longer-ranged defense network than just prism towers or pillboxes though, esp. due to its AoE. Most of the time, the enemy isn't going to be charging you with 1000 Vets or Elites, and you can see how that went for the conscripts. Plus, when you build it in an elevated position and in sufficient numbers, it really commands the area against infantry due to the suppressive effects, forcing their AI to repath, slow down, and spend more time under fire. I would take 12 Grand Cannons over 16 Prism Towers any day.
France is banned in quite a few games because the grand cannon let's you annihilate large attack forces from extreme distances additionally the grand cannon isn't considered a hostile structure to the games logic so units don't auto target it.
