I have a 97 Dodge Ram 1500 that went through front end fire I replaced some wiring a battery remove the fan guard replace the windshield and the headlights and The Grille and I'm still driving it

"I'M a parking lot sweeper". All the tire's i found on my lots i placed in the bed of it until it looked bad enough that management had it towed off just b4 ts Imelda. ...It's amazing all of the car's they abandoned around here. 2017 there was a mid 90's jimmy near kohls on my side of the parking lot. It was in my way of the curb so i hooked to it via sweeper a towed it just off my lot, ... the next week it was towed back to another curb on my side. Parts of the eng was gone & doors were open... so i backed the sweeper into the psg doors while they were open "trying to make it look bad to get towed off the lot". 3 nights pass & some one took the time to close them. ...So i loaded the suv completely with tires & back into the front bending the front some & took off all 4 tires & let it sit on the frame... about 8 months pass no change... so i found spray paint & painted trump 2020 on driver side & in 2 days some one finally had it towed. "that was a social experiment" . Also across the street near men wear house another jimmy same color & style sat for at least 7 years.... i got some rotting chicken out of a local grocery dumpster & threw it in the floor board "summer time 100+ deg". Finally had that one gone the next day.

A 4.7 dodge in it's natural habitat. The 4.7 is a rubbish engine that eats up the passenger side camshaft when the oil pressure gets low enough or the oil thin enough, due to mileage or lack of maintenance.
Well my brother put a new top end on his 2003 everything from the headgaskets up was new and he broke it in properly according to the manufacturer, and the first drive around the block it ate the passenger side Cam, which was the third one he put in that truck. And his 2006 is doing the same thing.
That's what we call a scrappin' truck. In my area, guys buy that kind of mashed up truck that still drives & leave them attached to trailers that they fill up with scrap metal. I've seen trucks that have clearly been rolled used as scrapper trucks.
This video's opening reminded me of the #JankyPromoters movie - except they were always careful to show the driver's side, because the passenger side looked like the Ram's driver's side, & it had the donut spare on the rear axle.
With some TLC that could be a nice truck again ... it sounds really nice .. one will come your way Jay ... you will get one that takes less work to make it perfect to beat the snot out of .. :)
Save it! Sell it as whole! too good to be sold for parts!, worth 1200 as is or 2k if you replace the doors! Or upgrade!!,just wrap a chain around that pillar and pull!,as long you don't get water inside you be fine.

If that had a 100k miles less on the clock it would be worth investment to do it right. Sad thing is it doesn't. So it would be hard to justify doing the fix right.

Jay, have you had a watch of the Arthur Tussik channel? You'd be amazed at what damage a car can suffer and still be repaired. The B pillar is a very common fix that he carries out.
Honestly I would save it if I were you. Those trucks usually are beat to hell and back. That motor sounds great and trans shifts fine. Bodys in decent shape. Just smack some new doors on it and call it a day. Make sure you keep the other dodge too as a back up just incase the 4.7 decides to go out on you.

@@DrVaults the owner of our local Transmission shop bought a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 same setup as this one. Brand new. 2 transmissions under warranty. And 4 rebounds hisself. Last I talked to him he had 218k on it. I've got a 2004 Ford Ranger Tremor with 268k that looks like it has 10k miles. Bought it brand new at Jacky Jones Ford in Sweetwater TN oil spark plugs tires battery and dual exhaust 2 years ago is all that's ever been charged. Even still has the original radiator hoses on it. Btw I'm a very aggressive driver.

The transmission flared on shifts, transfer case leaked fluid, not to mention the howling rear end almost as loud as an '02 Explorer. We learned to lease new vehicles after that disaster. The '20 Ford Explorer ST is an awesome vehicle, and it's back to RWD with a 10 speed automatic. Never will consider a Chrysler or GM now we have the Ford.
Don't know about that funky tow haul selection, on my '05 (which is the early third gen, this is a late 3rd gen '06) it's just on and off, and I figured it was the same as O/D off in the older models. Although I notice it'll downshift and lock up the torque converter downhill to engine brake. Had me for the first minute, I was sitting here like "who the hell would scrap such a nice truck?" figured it must've had something mechanical wrong with it till you walked around the other side. I'm surprised that door still closes, that's amazing. Atleast looks like a good part truck, the 545RFE transmission they used in these are solid if you maintain them. 200k on mine all original mechanically. If this was an '05 or earlier with the Hemi before that MDS failure they did, it would be worth fixing. Hell if I was in that situation I'd fix it given I had the money to.
I think that could be saved without needing any new metal welding in. Just throw a chain around the bottom of the B-pillar and pull it out as good as you can. A big twatting hammer should take care of the rest :D Then throw a couple doors on and drive. It's a 15yo truck, it doesn't need to be pretty. B pillar is an easy fix than A-pillar, and both are easier than rear end damage. Front end is easiest, as provided the frame rails are good, it's all bolt-on parts, but front-end collisions tend to be t higher speeds and cause more damage. Pity that all the 300s are now finding their way to the junkyard, I have a soft spot for those things. Love the budget Bentley looks. Give it five years and crown vics will be going the same way - most were ridden hard and put away wet by cops and taxi firms. When all the proper American sedans are gone we'll be left with crossover SUVs and Toyotas :(
The difference between the 02-05 Rams in that body style is the grille and tail lights. 06-09 changed the grille and headlights like the one in this video. Rams before 06 will have the front end from 02

its a Dodge that transmission is on its way out and has probably been replaced several times already. this truck is where it needs to be

I think the 1999-2004 jeep grand cherokees used the same 4.7.
Leo I had one in my 1999 WJ Grand Cherokee it was a good strong motor in a GC.

I had a 96 ram 1500 with the 318 and i upgraded to a 05 1500 with the hemi and love it

Tow haul down shifts a whole lot harder so u can slow down while pulling and shift points are higher going up through the gear

I've had them all Ford, Dodge, Chevy. Just depended on price . I'd buy another Dodge. I had an 84 it was one of my favorites.

Put a fender and 2 doors on it and you got a nice truck, the rest of the damage you can live with.
