UE5 Custom Primitive Data Variable Improvements

  • Wanted to make a video on a new quality of life update that 5.0 added to custom prim data. It overall makes manual entry easier and lets you knoow what data your changing

    I didn't even know this existed. So glad I stumbled across it. Would you be willing to create a tutorial where you build this material from start to finish?

      drive.google.com/file/d/1G05jV4WGbFyel7N0S6KyiJBoxCgmkEtP/view?usp=sharing i made a example material that shows how you setup a material all you have to do it put everything in the content folder into one of your content folders. As for the material its basic and all you do is add it to a mesh then assign the primitive data and i added notes to the material to help you along.

    half my custom primitive data loses its name for some reason in teh details panel.

    I cannot figure out how to do it from inside a blueprint...

      you need your material to be setup with a Variable thats set to Custom Prim Data and then get your static mesh. Then use the Set custom Primitive Data Float/vector depending on the type of data your setting and just make sure your Data index is correct. Say your using a Float thats only going to take up that Index its assigned to a Vector it will be based on the size of the vector you pick so make sure its correct in the material.

    it's not possible to use it with decals?!!

      a decal isnt a mesh and primitive data is saved inside mesh. You could use mesh decals if you really need the ability to use CPD with them
