I'm glad I can help. Getting started is the hardest part so congratulations! I've tried a bunch of different tapes but in the end the Fat Max is the only one that I use.

Plywood strips work great. They dont split like 1x2 does sometimes and drywall screws hold good.
I’d throw a few rows of mesh, 2-3 coats of 5 min and topcoat with lightweight. Make sure to sand shiny/contaminated surfaces a little to ensure joint compound sticks (usually not necessary but can be crucial when using quickset, adding some plaster/masonry glue to the first coat turns your quickset into all purpose)
Get you a bag of 5 min mud, it’s not that bad it’s similar to 20 min but sets up rock hard by the time you go clean out mud pan. When your hot mud hardens too much to work with, throw it in the trash can and run a sponge through mud pan. Drywall repairs are my specialty and that bread thing would mess me all up. If that thing has a lid I would consider using it to store bucket mud. Also always start with 8” knife.
After I started using my multi to cut out drywall… I never went back! Lol. I do turn the blade to the side because I’m lazy and don’t want an arm workout doing these repairs all day.
Only thing I do differently to finish is use a wet sponge to sand and blend in my repairs so I don’t have to drag the vac back out

@@DarylTheFINISHER so true. Like you, I have switched to using a multi tool as often as I can and like you, with a vacuum right there for dust control. I noticed you really made a point of cutting shallow with the multitool to avoid wires/plumbing…. Very cool and expected with a detail oriented contractor like you. Love the videos!
Great video. Have you tried wet sponging instead of sanding? It works better then sanding without the mess.
Love my olfa. Here's a hack get a self sticking phone clip and stick that on so your not digging in your pocket for it. I put a little gorilla glue on the back for a better bond.
Silicone pans are genius!! I did the drywall repairs in my bathroom and use sheet rock 45. It was a larger job than the video but found that using an egg beater attached to my drill made making larger batches much easier
Question, whats the purpose of Plus 3? Could you not mix a different batch of Sheet rock 45 instead?

That tape is the best and I have used it with great results even in an inside corner....It does not crack or lift in places that paper tape does over time....I have a couple places in my old house that always cracked with paper tape. This fiber tape has not cracked or lifted where paper tape always did.....
I agree, I love the stuff. I use a reinforced paper on the corners but everywhere else I use fibafuse.

Rapid set one pass wall repair 20 minute mud with fiber tape. Dries much faster than the other so called 20 minute muds.
That's an excellent product. It's also very moisture resistant once dry. Good for bathrooms or other wet areas. If longer working times are needed you can add a sprinkle of "Set Control" by Rapid Set. It's a retardant that can increase the total working time from 10-15 min up to 30-45+ mins.

Hi Daryl! Great video and awesome content! Btw, Ray Duke sent me here. I'm glad I came! Would this repair be completed in 1 day? I've read where some people say to be careful about cracking the compound with too much heat. Is that a concern for you? Maybe that's more of a concern for hot mud?
Appreciate you swinging over here, Ray is a good guy. This repair can be done in an hour or two with a heat gun. The heater I use doesn't get as hot as the heat gun but yes, if you leave it for a long time it could crack the mud. I got caught up one time doing work in a different room and left it for maybe an hour and a half and it cracked the top coat a little so I had to sand and remud it.

Thanks for watching. It would take me about hour maybe a little more if I'm painting the repair. If your applying texture to the wall you can use hot for the entire repair which may help you finish faster.
Man, thats fast for 3 layers to dry! I like it! With this heater fan, how long does it take for one layer of 45 to dry?
This is probably a dumb question, but why not use a cali patch? Is it because its behind the door and gonna get banged again or is it just better to use the wood to reinforce it and attach the patch? I had to pull out a light switch from my hallway because the wiring in this house is funky and had to be fixed. Drove me nuts and now I have to patch it.
Not a dumb question at all. There's nothing wrong with the California patches . In spots that have the potential to be hit again or if movement is a concern then I like to reinforce with wood. It's just a preference.
so do you sand in between each compound coat or just after the last one?

the real challenge is tapping over texture. and we use 20 min mud as you should know...
When I use heat gun, the mud starts bubbling and when dries, it leaves lots of small holes. Why is that happening?
I keep gun moving and still bubbles.
You might just have the heat gun too close to the patch. I've only seen it bubble up if it gets too hot.

That's a great job, but what application would you use with a bucket of compound (green top)?
I would use the green lid all-purpose joint compound anytime I use a tape made of paper or some sort of composite.
Love fibafuse. I would've went 45 for the first 2 coats, then plus 3, then after sanding hit it with pva and a back roll so the painter doesn't need to try priming with paint and making it flash
Much appreciated! When I'm showing the job as a repair guy then I would do the same as you. Most homeowners I tell to do a couple coats of plus three because it's easy to sand and much more forgiving than hot mud. Since it's their house, they're usually not pressed for time anyway.

Question I see you using 16’ fatmax my go to tape measure I’m looking to get the auto lock and being told to go with Milwaukee what’s your take on this ??
I’ve literally seen the auto lock feature on the Milwaukee 16ft fail in store brand new.

I do those from time to time but it just depends on where I am making the repair.

Hello, do you have to put primer on after the plus 3 before painting? I always see a little flashing when I repair holes in drywall. For example, I use 5 minute mud, then some all purpose green lid compound, create knockdown texture, and then paint. But I always seem to see some flashing when I look at wall from an angle. Thank you.
It doesn't matter what kind of drywall mud you use, you need some sort of primer over it. I always keep a small can of bin primer with me because it dries faster than other primers. I've heard people say that emerald or duration paint from Sherwin-Williams won't flash a small repair but I've never tried it.

Wholesaw is your friend. Wholesaw cut out the broken wall hole, same wholesaw cut out your patch piece then do the rest as shown in the video.
