The Home in Lake Tahoe is a very important symbol because it represents destruction, not only of The Estate but of Michael's Soul which had gotten much worse. I remember reading Web Of Dreams by VC Andrews that focused on The Life of Heaven's Mother Leigh Van Voreen and the prologue had Annie Casteel and her Husband Luke whom she thought was her Brother but he wasn't. She remembered being a Prisoner in Farthinggale Manor aka Farthy as a Teenager and now The Mansion is a Mess, nobody maintained the upkeep, and her Real Father Troy Tatterton lived in a Cottage instead of the Estate.

Originally, Part 2 was gonna conclude in the 60’s, with Michael basically showing him age, and alongside his sister being his aid and support. The final scene was meant to be his son Anthony telling his father he wants nothing to do with the family business, than Michael was meant to reflect, and conclude. Had that ending been established I don’t think we would of gotten a Part III, not dissing it but I think that would of been a perfect send off.

This is the opening for the TV version of the movie, edited together to make up for about 15 minutes worth of footage cut out of the film when it debuted on CBS in the mid-90s.
Although, when I saw this on AMC earlier this week, I noticed that they just grafted it onto the remastered DVD print and didn't cut much of the movie at all (mostly profanity).
The shots of Michael you've never seen before were shot for the end of Godfather II and not used. Michael was supposed to be aged at the end of the movie, but the film is so dark, his hair just looks normal black instead of greying.

The original was good but tbh underwhelming. 2 was pretty BA. 3 was pretty good and much better than i thought it would be, since many people consider it really bad.
i can see how influential the first 1 was for so many gangster movies and even video games like GTA. At the time of it's release, it must've been one of the most hardcore, gritty films you ever seen. Today, i think the pacing is a little slow and there wasn't enough payoff for me. I felt like it started getting good right before it ended.

that was the best thing about it. He brought him entirely back down to a human level rather than the robotic monster that was head of the family. This film gets a bad rep and maybe because it had to live upto the best movies ever made, but if you pick it apart, it's a very very clever movie.

razbigranicu I kind of thought GF2 was his downfall. When he talks to his mom I saw that as him crumbling like a child. I always thought that scene was him regretting what his life had become. Thinking about the failure of his marriage, the death of his mom (therefore becoming an orphan) and the killing of his brother.
But I like your analysis- never saw it from that perspective

In those archival shots of Michael from Part II, he looks deeply introspective to me, rather than wholly bitter. Michael got into the crime business because he loved his family, but it also effectively turned him against his two closest family members. Michael is conflicted more than anything. Note his bodily expressions as Fredo is shot and the moments afterwards. Also note that in Part III, despite trying to reinvent his reputation and persona as a benevolent businessman, Michael still makes excuses for what he did throughout the film.

I read in a Pacino bio that he wanted to wear his hair down to resemble traditional men's haircuts in the late 70's (during which this film takes place), but Coppola said no.
They could have just had Pacino look like how he actually looked in 1990. They didn't need to make him a sickly old man, but rather just a middle-aged mobster with remaining sparks of violence in him.

Too much rehashing iconic scenes with too much distracting dialogue (distracting to advancing the story of Pt. III). They SHOULD have opened with the very final scene, The Death of Michael Corleone, when the 77-year-old Michael keels over out of his chair in Sicily in 1997.
