So, I love building quads and have never done fixed wing. I bought literally the same styrofoam glider for my kid yesterday and thought this would be a great rc conversion. I plan on using micro quad parts.. maybe doing a vector thrust type of job..good vid!
When u buy servvos u get tons of spare servo horns...simply glue those as control surface horns as they already have r8 hole size & gradations V911 board is best applied sideways with rudder servo towards front with its horn replaced with aileron type (basically 2 hands) horn. if u don't have r8 size horn then paste 2 hand horn on top of existing horn & ideally board is mounted on fuselage b/w main & rear wing so that rear servo connects binding free to elevator
Hi. I corrected the bent of fuselage just taping the opposite side using half-inch tape heated with an hair dryer. I have my own 2-channel version glider of this toy airplane, nice job man.
Very nicely done, hope you have a good break. Looking forward to the flight video, should be ok as the glide test seemed fine. As for the tail, you could try some clear tape stuck under tension along the opposite side from the bend. That's how I flattened my Lidl XL wings.
Yes I have used the tape under tension method in reverse to add dihedral to some of my glider. Thanks for watching. You will soon see what I meant about losing orientation. I really struggle unless it is flying away from me. I need to get in more practice but it is pretty rare that I actually fly anything.
Bungee launch video is scheduled for Friday 19th. It took me a while to sort out the bungee. It was launching very low and eventually I realised it was the parachute I have on the end of the bungee line that was causing the trouble. As soon as I removed that we had much better launches.
I see that Amazon have these convenient brick receivers for sale but the problem is they do not ship to the UK,I think yours will fly fine from a bit of a slope somewhere. Keep experimenting with these Works bargains,I think they must mould that twist in to make them turn ?
Looks promising, I wondered how directional control was going to be achieved with just ailerons put they also act together, It'd be good need to find somewhere to try some 'sloping', Breen sand dunes could be good, not far to walk to retrieve it until you get the hang.
@@GrandadIsAnOldMan This video has just out come from the German flyers who have done a lot of Lidl gliders, Aldi have a glider for sale that is very similar to the works one and the Germans have done the same as you have done with the ailerons. The first part of video is a discussion of the glider in German so skip to 10:00 mins, they have a neat and easy way to attach the canopy with two cocktail sticks. Hi Graham. Going through some of your flying videos and I came back to this video because I intend doing an RC conversion with a little rubber band tissue covered balsa kit. What sort of range are you getting with the WL911 receiver? I think this would be a good choice for the kit I am waiting for. If you can get around 200 feet range, then it would be ok for a little park flyer. I imagine they are lightweight and you say there are soldering points for two motors? Just wondering. Cheers. 👍👍👍
This is the one I was flying on holiday last year. I am hopeless at judging distances. You would have to watch this one again and judge it yourself th-cam.com/video/Ib48ju-bgpw/w-d-xo.html I didn't lose the signal at any time as far as I know although I could use that as an excuse for being a rubbish pilot. The motor outputs are OK for DC motors, those 3.7 volt coreless, like the Hubsan motors. Just remembered I used one of those receivers on this project th-cam.com/video/e3IBV_H_uyA/w-d-xo.html and also I believe they are no longer available but the WL949 does the same job possibly better. Check out the comments on this Bangood listing www.banggood.com/WLtoys-F949-Airplane-Spare-Parts-Receiver-Board-p-959681.html
Love your reply to Copterdude. Sounds familiar to my own sort of reply. Two questions. What is the object of the slot above the tail-plane? For looping from hand launch? Would not the controls as is act as spoilers (up) and flaps as down? Love those little control boards. Good job.
Although this toy came without any instructions in the packaging I would say YES that slot is for making it loop. As for the control surfaces, this is a fairly common modification and it works, so that is good enough for me with my limited flying skills. Normally I would have fitted normal elevators on the tail, and fitted the rudder but I have done that in the past and the comments suggested trying this type of conversion so on this kit I gave it a try and I am impressed with the results. I have dialled the rates down to prevent me over controlling it. I usually do toy grade RC where you only have left right up down, so I forget I have proportional control and tend to push my sticks all the way.
The servos are on the receiver module - all in one unit - the details are in the video description and the pinned comment. It is a WL911 receiver board purchased from eBay but no longer available. However the F949 receiver board has all the same features and is currently available. You would have to check if it is compatible with your transmitter. I use a FlySky FS-T6 transmitter.
If you mean the foam glider, this one is sold by "The Works" although I expect it was summer stock so there may be none left or you may need to shop around. There are virtually identical items available online cheaper.
Yes the V911 is a helicopter but it's receiver module is (or was, as they are no longer available) perfect for this sort of application, with all that you need on a small form factor. I have used them for several projects. I do have a v949 or 959 board tucked away somewhere that I bought when these were no longer available. Some people try to knock out the gyro but I haven't had a problem leaving it alone.
@@josephfreeman5289 it would be cheaper just to buy the receiver module. As I said the last time I looked the v911 was no longer available but others like the ones you mentioned were. Probably just depends where you are looking. I usually buy from eBay but AliExpress seems to have more of the obscure items. I have had some issues with AliExpress sellers. Hot water works well for straightning bent foam plane parts. Dip the whole tail in for a few mins, take out and hold it straight until it cools down.
🙂
Very nice. You might be able to get the bend out the tail using steam. That sometimes works quite well
🙂
This is strange. I never got a notification of this one. Anyway great build and video.

i have a bunch rudder elevv ones that turn just fine...on this wing 48 ..37 mm wings...also bungee launching....
Many people have done successful conversions of these planes and similar types. My conversion here is fairly basic.
I think bungee launch would be great or what you could do is add a motor with a super capacitor or use the motor slot in the board

Use a bit of heat (hair drier) to straighten the fuselage.
I am afraid that doesn't work with that sort of foam 😕😕
