Cheers to you for bringing up the Father of Hypnosis a Goan origin famous in Europe and Russia. His birthday is celebrated in Russia every year but not in Goa. Someone commented that Kadamba dynasty....they not Goan for your History lesson. Anyway, with regret I dont see India will ever recognise a Christian Goan like Abade Faria and we who appreciate his work must teach the young generations to look up into his work.
What is Goan ?? The Goan identity only became distinct over the last 500 years because of a separate cultural and political input that the Portuguese conferred upon them . Till that point , Goa was just an extension of the wider cultural Konkan region , it was indistinguishable . Does this also mean that before 1500AD that Goa and Goans had no identity of their own ? Think 💭 for yourself very carefully about this question ….
In conclusion you will realize that , it is not so easy for an all encompassing answer to the question as to what is the Goan identity . Abbe Faria is part of the great legacy of what Goa is just as the Kadambas and the Mauryans were in the long past .

How can you expect today's majority so called goans who are migrants from neighboring states who came in such of employment during Portuguese rule an also after goa became part of india to know about this great goan Abbe Faria? To know about this great goan you should be a native of goa.
During Portuguese rule, Goans were escaping from Goa. Portuguese were brutal and oppressive. This is why many Goans escaped to other regions. It was only after the Portuguese were thrown out that Goa became a better place. Portuguese were the worst kind of people. Their crimes against humanity puts even animals to shame.
