    Hi all,
these Soltech lights definitely passed the pudding test. If you want to learn more about the them, check out the Soltech website: glnk.io/jljwy/15off7 ... you receive 15% off store wide using discount code 'Sydneyplantguy' (btw, I'm using the wide angle VITA & the large 40W Aspect)
    Happy Growing!!

Here is the one area where I've got slightly more experience than you (finally...!). I've been using Soltech since last autumn, here in the States where we have long months of very, very dark days. The growth has been impressive, above and below the substrate. While these aren't cheap, and some of the blazing white lights might do just as well, I don't care 😆. I don't want to live in a dental office. The quality of light from both the Aspect and Vita is gorgeous. Cheers, Jan.

Great revue thanks Jan. Placed my order for a 4 pack but shipping for a 4pack to Oz was going to be $130 so I pulled the plug. Have emailed them to check but maybe AJ or Tim could apply for Aus distributorship.
Love Braddles in his box 😻

Yay I love Soltech! Id love to see you grow a splendid under the Aspect, as mine has become very narrow since moving it under the light - all three plants on that pole! Before it was much more heart shaped. Only reason I can think is the light

I'd be interested to know what happens to that plant if you moved the light to more face on from the side or at least at a 45 degree angle from the top side. I can't imagine a splendid would get good light with the light hanging from the top and the leaves basically hanging straight down.

You’ll need a discount code to afford one…but I love my Soltech light. My eldest plant, a mature 10” Zeylanica snake plant , has been growing vigorously under the large Aspect light and is now flowering for the first time

Excellent video once again Jan! - living in the UK i more or less HAVE to rely on grow lights (coming from Germany, i bet you can guess how little light we get here!) . It can work out better though (i know you would rather grow in natural light , but using grow spotlights has enabled me to get a six foot tall melano with 80cm long leaves in a year - from a four leaf plant. They can really power things up!

I needed this video SO BAD right now! We're getting ready to move in about a month and I've been super excited to have my own planty room!!.......however........we got the chance to look at our new place the other night and my to be planty oasis has not ONE window! 🤦‍♀️I'll be relatively new to grow lights as our current place has several windows that my plants are scattered everywhere near. Thank you SO much for the review and visual feedback! Super helpful!!! 💚🌿

Hey Jan, thanks for sharing the readings! I agree there could be significant variations depending on the quality of the meter (and diffuser) used. The same could be said for using different light products, the positioning and distance of products from plants, the latitudinal location of a plant owner, the size/orientation/height of windows in the home, etc. I think you've portrayed and described your conditions pretty well in your videos, so getting to see some basic readings to go along with those is awesome. It gives plant owners like myself a starting point from which I can compare to my own conditions and draw parallels.
From my research, I think the lowest light plants can take a range of 20-40 PPFD. Then you start hitting full sun territory in the 600-2000+ range. So it was pretty neat to see that your lower plants were still getting decent low light, while the plant closest to the overhead light might be getting close to direct sun lighting. I'm still trying to understand my lighting needs, but most of my plants seem to have been doing well in the 20-80 range (with my own cheap meter setup). I think a couple of my plants could benefit from more, so I'm going to try to step up to 150-200 for those. I was a bit surprised that the reading was as low as it was for your natural light. At the same time, that light covers the entire plant pretty uniformly, and longer exposure can make up for a lower intensity. You also mentioned an input for the light source in the app, so maybe natural light would read differently if you changed the source.
I was enjoying this video until close to the end... then I got excited. You've stated you don't like digging into some of the technical aspects so deeply, but I really appreciate your taking the time to share a little bit of that side. Thanks again!

@@danieltankard5515 absolutely no worse than natural sunlight for fading, if you aren't getting bad fading where you get good sunlight nothing to worry about.

Good timing! I tried to look everywhere for those Aspect lights in black colour but could not find one available. So happy to see one available in your link you provided. :) The mother grow light in 40cm was not enough light for my plants. I definitely needed a pendent light hanging from above. My concern is the electricity bill though. I only contribute $80 dollars a month to the household bills, not sure if I need to contribute more.

Those lights are amazing! I am keen to get my hand on some (although, we are soon to come into Spring now)... How do your grow lights go with your electricity bill? I live in Adelaide, where electricity is one of the most expensive in the country... That has always been my dread - a simple few lights racking up insane bills...
PS - I am in LOVE with your plants, and also, Brad!!!

@@sydneyplantguy Definitely!! Also Jan, new camera is looking fantastic!! Got crisp focus, when it picks the right face, and the light flickering issues you were having look perfect now.
Do yourself one favor tho. Take. A. Breath. You talk so fast and for so long that you keep losing your breath and that's not good for you!
Slow down a bit, do jump cuts for full, deep breaths between smaller sentences. It'll help you speak with less stutter, and it won't exhaust you as much! You can make your cuts easy to find and make, while editing, by fully pausing your shorter sentences with your body motions. Such as ending on a neutral face and holding up your index finger to give a visual queue to your editor(whether that's you or someone else I'm not sure) where the cut needs to begin.
Coming from someone who has the same problem, this is such important advice I got from my psychiatrist 🥰🥰

The Soltech lights are beautiful - I use mine as accent lighting, too. My problem is that the analog timers are horrible for the price. If the power goes out, the timers have to be reset. If they are bumped (even slightly) by animals playing or furniture being moved, the pins get pushed inward. My light came on in the middle of the night a few days ago, and it scared the crap out of me. For this price, these lights need to come with digital timers.

    • @sydneyplantguy
      @sydneyplantguy  ปีที่แล้ว

Mm mine didn’t come with a timer at all 🤷🏻‍♂️I just plugged it into an inexpensive smart socket so I can set the times from my phone :)

I have finally collected plant knowledge/experience over the last few years, but I’ve had a golden pothos for almost 20 years. Despite the fact that I knew nothing about plants for most of that time (and now, looking back, I can think of all sorts of things I did that weren’t a good idea) that plucky plant has grown and thrived and has propagated babies all over the country. It’s hard to go wrong with a golden pathos/epipremnum aureum!

Fair points - i personally don’t care about stats … the proof is in the pudding & they are clearly working :) & I find the price quite reasonable given they are made from premium materials & made in the US :) but obviously we all need to make our own decisions on what to soend our money on, there are definitely cheaper alternatives out there :)
