Very nice synthesis, but why do you have the chlorides written outside the square brackets in your formula? Surely they are coordinated to the cobalt.

why excess Co needed to keep PPh3 in soln?
Because otherwise it precipitates out when contracting moisture
And you get a PPh3 contamination
