    Oh also, I saw this on another video, IDK if it works but I thought it was worth mentioning - if you chill the mould upside down on a silicone mat, you get a really thick rim of chocolate around the join, which is easy to trim away but also super super useful when sealing them together. This also removes the need to melt off the edges to get it flat as it'll already be flat where it dried. This doesn't give you the super strong bottom though, but I imagine if you want that you can always just add a tiny bit more in a pseudo-second layer and let that set right way up? IDK I'm gonna play though.

    • @NejiRaven
      @NejiRaven 3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Can confirm, this is what I do when working with chocolate. Leaving your mould upside down, assuming your chocolate isn't too warm when first used, will make sure they had a nice sturdy edge, and typically a rounder/neater edge, so you dont need to melt too much down when joining the halves!

    A suggestion for a future one to try. Use the Joy ornament. Take white chocolate and mix in red food coloring and add cocktail/wine glitter. This should give the shell a uniform sparkle. For added effect add a small amount to the inside of the bomb and it should give you a glittery especially if you have a see through mug

    Oh oh oh! That hack with the water based colour in oil - YES is works for all brands (to the best of my knowledge) but the trick is a) get a GOOD QUALITY concentrated gel colour, not one of those water based colours you have to add half a bottle to see, 'cause volume of colour makes a massive difference. Then mix the oil and gel colour together really well, you want them to emulsify like you're making salad dressing. I usually put the teaspoon of oil in a tiny jar and shake it like crazy to mix it really really really well. When the oil is a consistent colour, add it in. I've never found a white chocolate this doesn't work for.
    Thanks for the video! I always wanted to make these :D

I’ve never tempered before, and even though I’m determined to learn, it will be good to know I’ve got a stash of compound chocolate I can use if it all goes horribly wrong. I’m not doing them until May as each year now I make gourmet hot chocolate mixes for my mum for Mother’s Day, so I might even get some tempering practice in by then. We shall see.

    Hi, I just learned about hot chocolate bombs today! These are so cute. My question is... how does it taste, especially using the candy wafers?

    • @Sugarologie
      @Sugarologie  3 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      So there are brands I like and those I prefer to not eat a whole chunk of, in one sitting.
      Favorite affordable, best tasting candy wafers by far? Mercken's. I'm a chocoholic and when I tasted their white chocolate melts I was like WOW! This is GOOD! And I really like their dark ones too. My kids love everything I make with it - cakesicles, dipped oreos, etc.
      Favorite grocery store melts? Ghirardelli melts. Can find those pretty much anywhere, and I always pick mine up at Target.

    How easily do these melt though? Great concept but I'm wondering how hot is hot enough to melt everything w/o having to wait awhile for it to cool down enough to drink.

    • @Sugarologie
      @Sugarologie  3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Pretty easily - to get (probably overly) technical, compound chocolates such as these melt around 110-120F. Water boils at 212F though we don’t boil milk, but just warm it up (way under boiling.) Ideal drinking temps for hot beverages is around 140.
      I’ve always had great success with these 😉

    I’ve always made HOT chocolate with water (and milk for cold chocolate milk). Have you tried this with water?

    • @Sugarologie
      @Sugarologie  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I haven't but I typically use whole milk, which is mostly water with 4% fat. With water, you get the warmth so it will definitely melt the ball, and if you stir enough it should thoroughly mix the chocolate in I think. You may not even need the fat from milk.
      Honestly they are so tasty, I think it will taste great with water as well. And there are ganaches made out of just chocolate and water, so I'm thinking it will be fine. 😊

    • @Sugarologie
      @Sugarologie  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Oh no! Sometimes the first time, it's hard to know exactly how much chocolate to coat the molds with. For reference, I use 6 ounces of chocolate for about 3 bombs. That way if you make them again, you'll know to keep using all that chocolate to get a nice and sturdy shell. 😊

    • @flippineck2825
      @flippineck2825 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Also, if youre having real trouble, put them in the freezer in the mold, that'll give them a bit more strength as they'll be frozen, then let them come to room temperature out of the molds before following the next steps
