I had no idea this was dropping. Super impressed by the size. Hopefully get them below the msrp but still not having to lug around all those other big chronos around would be a blessing
Thanks so much for your thorough review. I was really hoping the app would have a real time graphing option like the FX. I have found that graph to be super handy in finding and removing errant shots from your data or watching how a barrel speeds up with fouling etc.
My magnetospeed v3 going for sale 😂😂. Placed order for Garmin after watching your video. Area 419 out of stock on the clamp. Will wait. Thanks for the great work.
Looks like Garmin is killing it! Darn your hide Ray.....! Here I was just about to head out the door on my 5am run and this came up. I just heard of this from one of the guys at the range. After my magneto went south and just almost purchasing another. I'm on board for this.
Thanks Ray for the review. Nice little chrono. Really like that its portable and very easy to use. What I like most of it is that it’s fits my budget. Have a good week sir and thanks for all the work and time you put into making the videos.
I’m blown away. Compared to the older chronographs that I’m used to, this thing is like black magic. Seriously, all I have to do is just set it next to the rifle/pistol, push a few buttons then let em rip?! I’m so used to fighting with my chrono that this seems like snake oil. Take my money, I’m buying one.
Greetings from Central NC! Thanks for this comprehensive review. Do you know if this chronograph would work with black powder muzzle loaders? Someone has the 'big orange box' meter, and it fails frequently, likely due to billowing black powder smoke after each shot. Thanks!
I noticed Area419's arm may not meet Garmin's 5" minimum requirement when mounting on the side (5-15"). It is clearly working for you. Have you tried running 2 Xero's (1 on arm clamp and 1 on the Garmin supplied tripod) for MV comparison?
Amazing review. I agree with you. Many people say something is a game changer. This is tech moving in the right direction for sure. Subscribed to your channel finally after watching many of your reviews!
Thank you for making this video. I normally borrow my friends Labradar. It is definitely not user-friendly. Whenever I get stuck, I have to pull up your old video to help me. I told my friend earlier in the day he could borrow my Garmin when it comes in.
$600 isn't a bad price but it's not cheap either. So I don't think Garmin is crazy here but you can by a GPS for $90 bucks and start using it to navigate around the globe.(really) So I hope they will drop after they get popular like others have (their GPS is $90 bucks), but won't hold my breath just yet, even though Garmin has been a great company and really good to us. Often we forget that new tech mean new production lines and a lot of education for many employees, so if any company can do it Garmin will. They have so many great products that if I had a need for this I would purchase one myself the size and portability is just what you'd expect from a World Class company. Great video Ray hope you're doing well! Nice job Garmin.
The only comparable products are $625, $999, and $1450. I think they did good since they have a better screen, app, and size than their competitors at a lower MSRP.
@@leftyeh6495 I won't spend that much on one because I don't need one but if you read the comment you'd see I gave Garmin as a company a solid pat on the back. I think they're pretty great and have high expectations of them because they deliver so often exactly what you're looking for a reasonable and usually the most affordable price. No doubt that they are building it for a fair price. I said that for only $90 US you can get a GPS for your car that'll take you wherever you need to go in the world. Plus I said Good Job Garmin.
Thank you for the review. I want one. I don’t know any other way to say it. It seems to be an absolutely awesome device and huge game changer in the world of chronographs. Just to let you know. Because of your reviews I have been an Area 419 fanboy for a while and this just adds more reason for me to continued to be an Area419 fanboy. Again, thank you for the review.
That's because the Magnetospeed reads the velocity right at the muzzle while the Garmin reads the bullets a a few feet down. Hence the difference in speed readings with those two chronograph.
Thanks for the review. Just bought one. I've been using Labradar for the last 7-8 years now and the lack of any updates or innovation has been a let down. Unit works fine and I've not had any issues, but it's huge and a pain to take everywhere. Can I ask what your jacket is and where to get it? Is it a Viktos? Thanks!
I now know what I want for Christmas! Magneto speed is great but as you said, it's a pain in the butt worth multiple firearms. Actually, the mag speed for multiples is more of a pain than my old pro chrono digital...
I would also love to see the clamp have the capability to fold so the Xero isn't sticking out in case I wanted to put it against the rifle when it's not currently being used, but able to quickly flip it back out. I know it's a minor issue, but I'm going to wait for v2 on both of these before purchasing :)
Tell Garmin you sold one to me. I ordered it off their website and I haven't received a shipping confirmation but they did bill my CC. Hopefully it comes soon, I'm still using caldwell shoot over style chrono and it works but can be a pain to set up at my local range because I have to wait for line breaks to adjust it or move It, etc... thanks for this one. Been waiting for a small, affordable radar style chronograph
What's the detection range of the Garmin? Does it read and track the round out to 50 or 100 yards? For the MS all they gotta do is make a wireless Magnetospeed. They do that, and I'm showing up again for Magnetospeed. The Magnetospeed is more accurate because it's reading a raw velocity at the muzzle, the radar units are reading at some distance away and then using an algorithm to "calculate" the MV.
Morning Ray, wow, this Garmin looks like the cat’s meow. Thank you for mentioning the discount code and information regarding area 419. I have 2 questions off topic. 1: do you teach classes on the subject of precision shooting? 2: what brand of camo jacket are you wearing in the video? Ray, thanks for excellent content. You have a calm and professional delivery. Much appreciated. Be well.
Seems very nice, however it doesn’t give the same data as you can get from the LabRadar. The LabRadar gives you data files that contain many readings per shot as the bullet travels downrange, for as long as it can track the bullet. This data can be used to calculate the BC of every shot. This data can be used for many different things. This is much more valuable than only getting the muzzle velocity. I’m very surprised Garmin didn’t do the same thing, because if you’re going to compete with another company you should probably do at least all the things they do, if not more. For dirt cheap you could add a temperature/pressure/humidity sensor and actually calculate the BC right in the unit for the shooter, and store that data right alongside the velocity data. At least with the LabRadar you can collect the atmospheric data yourself and do the calculations, but this is impossible to do if you only have a muzzle velocity. Knowing the BC of every shot can give you another metric to help determine and compare consistency. Is one lot number of bullets more consistent than the next? Does the BC out of your rifle differ much from the manufacturer’s listed value? There are probably other uses for downrange velocity data, too. This thing looks vastly superior to use, but I don’t want to give up the extra data I get from the LabRadar. Maybe this additional entry into the marketplace will finally make LabRadar get off their butts and fix the bugs in their firmware and phone apps. They haven’t bothered updating those in years and they both sorely need fixing. Maybe someone at Garmin can be coaxed into matching or surpassing the feature list for version 2. Hehe. For what it already does now, it seems to work way better than the LabRadar. But it needs to do a little bit more for me to consider buying one. I’ll wait for that version 2 with high hopes.
@@MysticalDragon73 not if you want a display like the Garmin or AndiScan. With the accessory display, the FX Pocket gets almost as expensive, with arguably less versatility. I don’t know if the pocket FX can work in a range between arrows and 5.000 fps bullets like the garmin.
