    $600 isn't a bad price but it's not cheap either. So I don't think Garmin is crazy here but you can by a GPS for $90 bucks and start using it to navigate around the globe.(really) So I hope they will drop after they get popular like others have (their GPS is $90 bucks), but won't hold my breath just yet, even though Garmin has been a great company and really good to us. Often we forget that new tech mean new production lines and a lot of education for many employees, so if any company can do it Garmin will. They have so many great products that if I had a need for this I would purchase one myself the size and portability is just what you'd expect from a World Class company. Great video Ray hope you're doing well! Nice job Garmin.

I think they're pretty great and have high expectations of them because they deliver so often exactly what you're looking for a reasonable and usually the most affordable price. No doubt that they are building it for a fair price. I said that for only $90 US you can get a GPS for your car that'll take you wherever you need to go in the world. Plus I said Good Job Garmin.

    What's the detection range of the Garmin? Does it read and track the round out to 50 or 100 yards? For the MS all they gotta do is make a wireless Magnetospeed. They do that, and I'm showing up again for Magnetospeed. The Magnetospeed is more accurate because it's reading a raw velocity at the muzzle, the radar units are reading at some distance away and then using an algorithm to "calculate" the MV.

  • @ClaytonMacleod
    @ClaytonMacleod ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Seems very nice, however it doesn’t give the same data as you can get from the LabRadar. The LabRadar gives you data files that contain many readings per shot as the bullet travels downrange, for as long as it can track the bullet. This data can be used to calculate the BC of every shot. This data can be used for many different things. This is much more valuable than only getting the muzzle velocity. I’m very surprised Garmin didn’t do the same thing, because if you’re going to compete with another company you should probably do at least all the things they do, if not more. For dirt cheap you could add a temperature/pressure/humidity sensor and actually calculate the BC right in the unit for the shooter, and store that data right alongside the velocity data. At least with the LabRadar you can collect the atmospheric data yourself and do the calculations, but this is impossible to do if you only have a muzzle velocity. Knowing the BC of every shot can give you another metric to help determine and compare consistency. Is one lot number of bullets more consistent than the next? Does the BC out of your rifle differ much from the manufacturer’s listed value? There are probably other uses for downrange velocity data, too. This thing looks vastly superior to use, but I don’t want to give up the extra data I get from the LabRadar. Maybe this additional entry into the marketplace will finally make LabRadar get off their butts and fix the bugs in their firmware and phone apps. They haven’t bothered updating those in years and they both sorely need fixing. Maybe someone at Garmin can be coaxed into matching or surpassing the feature list for version 2. Hehe. For what it already does now, it seems to work way better than the LabRadar. But it needs to do a little bit more for me to consider buying one. I’ll wait for that version 2 with high hopes.

    I've been using my Xero for a few months now & very happy with it, no fuss, no muss. So much easier to use than my LabRadar or MagnetoSpeed. One quirk though. Xero reports the population standard deviation estimate rather than the bias-corrected sample estimate. This makes direct comparisons of SD's from LabRadar or MagnetoSpeed problematic. The Garmin SD's need to be scaled for comparison. The scale factor = sqrt(n/(n-1)); for n = 3, SF = 1.225, n = 5, SF = 1.118, and n = 10, 1.054. For example, a recent 10-shot string, Xero reported SD = 5.9 fps (population) where as most would report 6.2 fps (sample). Strange that Gamin would choose the biased estimate.

    Can you download shot information to external device and then to computer?

      I have the same question and it appears that with no mention of this feature it's a "No." I really like Garmins products but think I'll wait to see if they add this feature.

    Can you export the data either from the unit or your phone i.e. as in excel format?

      Yes. C1 > ShotView > Export to email > Computer/EXCEL. > Resave as Excel file extension of choice.

    Must you keep the unit parallel to the muzzle like the LabRadar or must it just need to be within 5-15" of the rifle?

    How can a person get velocities at various points down range. For example leaving the muzzle, at midpoint and just before target?

      Labradar does that. This Garmin does not.

    Seems really good. A little expensive but seems well worth it.
