    I must say bravo to the lady who made this. I mean she hit everything dead on and great first note on it. When playing French Horn it’s all about that first note, it’s much like a job interview where the first impression counts. The French Horn is such a majestical instrument, I thank you so much for going over this amazing instrument.

      Whether you are a professional or not, it's good to learn to play courageously and not timidly. In a performance, even if you miss some note or chip some note, most listeners won't know. The conductor and some others in the orchestra might, but sometimes not even then. Just continue playing as if nothing happened.

    It was my dream, as a teenager, to play the French horn. I was inspired by my music teacher, who was a retired Director of Music of the Scots Guards, Lt. Col. Sam Rhodes. He was a fine musician, multi-instrumental and a great teacher. He introduced me to the Mozart Horn Concertos and I was hooked. Sadly it never happened, and now I am in my later years, it won't, so I just listen!

    Using "Du" instead of "Tu" to start a note usually makes a little bit softer start to the note. "Tu" usually makes a little bit sharper start. Neither is right or wrong. You might have a reason to use either one depending on what is musically best for a particular piece.

    so like, i picked up french horn, i've had a couple months of playing it so i'm still fairly new, it's the standard f-horn and i don't know if it's my embouchure or if i have an air leak in the valves or somethin or not enough oil because it recently just started sounding so airy and i can't keep my tone right, and also if there were any tips on producing the best clearest sound possible, my school is playing a music arrangement for how to train your dragon for an event and i have a solo, i just really want to make my music teacher happy, i'm the first french horn my school has had in 7 years since the last person, also i mainly play flute, decided to try french horn and well...one thing led to another

      ITO Well for you I must say congrats keep playing that horn. If you believe that it sounds Air though, take it to the closest music store and try to get it inspected. For a more clear tone open up your throat to the point were it feels like your about to sing. French Horn is a wonderful instrument and I trust your band directors have told you every thing else that could help you on horn. You have a splendid day. (I know this is several months late, but I thought I could help anyway.)

      So, I'm a beginning horn player, almost fully self taught (other than concert recordings and fingering charts) and I started getting the airy sound when a screw that held one of the strings popped out of my first valve. Fortunately, it was a quick fix. Although, music stores do it for $200 so unless you know how to fix it, be wary of what is fully happening to the horn before going to take it to a repair shop.

    • @singhh5050

      firm up your corners and keep your bottom lip against your teeth. don't use excessive pressure from the mouthpiece tho. using more air will help as well. try buzzing on your mouthpiece as warm up everytime you practice. don't move on to playing until you can get a consistent, full buzz. when you plug in the mouthpiece to your horn, it will be 10x easier. hope this helps!

    I remember back in high school orchestra (WAY back) that our conductor taught the proper way to sit as the very first thing. She is correct. But he went so far as to say keep you back straight, don't lean back against the chair back, be completely balanced - such that if you would die you would continue to be sitting in that position. A strange way to look at it, but it means you are having good posture and not wasting any energy just trying to sit.

    Hey Kid. Let me tell you, that that instrument is actually the most prolific sound in the greatest movie scores, that Ennio Morricone used. And some interesting trivia, There used to be a showman pianist called Liberace. His dad played the French Horn and Liberace in his youth used that as his base, instead of a guitar.
    I could never ever produce a movie score without HORNS, VIOLONS, AND FLUTES
    Bless you.

    Regarding the "pinky ring". It might be most typical that it is a fixed ring. But some horns have an adjustable one. If the position of the pinky ring is too uncomfortable, you can move an adjustable one. You can also have someone that does work on brass instruments install an adjustable pinky ring if it might make holding the horn more comfortable.

      I thought Asians played string instruments. Any orchestra I've been in the strings are mostly Asian. Never have I seen Asians in the horn section.

    • @vladify
      @vladify 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Electric Skyhightower, the notes are quite easy, but it depends, on your posture, how are you breathing..... it you will breath incorrect, (french horn) may go wrong, it will not sound correctly, soo keep going, and congrats being playing on this instrument, it is really cool one. :)

      I've played a good amount of brass instruments, and I can't argue with that logic, although the Tuba does take some effort. Yet I like higher instruments because of their brighter sounds. It really depends on the context. Baritone will be my choice for the rest of my days.
