You are such a breath of fresh air, and yes, you have inspired me to keep going. I've had quite a few awful days where my art just didn't... Thank you for letting us see your rough pages, your scribbles, your experiments and your learning curves, that took courage, and I really appreciate your help for amateurs like me. You rock!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤

@@allisondawrant some days I get really downhearted, and then my colours call me ... And off I go again!! I love the way you mix your media up, that really appeals to me tremendously. I am just burying myself in your videos at the moment, because this is the kind of art that I feel is right ( at last!) Xxxxxxxxx

I just found your channel and I love what you are doing. I do the same thing but not as dedicated . Love CeeCee's Idea of layig down color and drawing over it. You have inspired me to get out my paints and make some art. I do have a request that you zoom out so we can see more of what you are doing. I feel like I'm missing a lot. Thanks and keep painting and drawing. Hugs!

Your colours are so vibrant and beautiful. What brand of water colours do you use?

    • @allisondawrant

I use a bunch of different watercolour sets- "Ocean Paper", from Kauai, "stoneground paint co" (Canadian company), Kuretake Gambi pans (local art store carries these). the latter are like gauche -more opaque watercolour. And I use a LOT of pigment on my brush. thanks:)

Do you watercolor over gesso? Really enjoying your beginnings! Brave and kind of you to share!!❤❤❤

watercolour doesn’t go well over gesso- but if you want to prep a surface for watercolour- i recommend watercolour “ground”. i gesso with acrylic and pastel over top when art journaling.

@Sue Ridder I’ve played with gesso on pages and done abstract watercolor on top and you get cool flowy effects. If you’re just having fun you might really enjoy it as I do ❤

@@laurak5196 Oh, thanks for sharing this. I have found the watercolour flows right off but maybe I need to give it some drying time? Will have to try this!

@@allisondawrant Hi Allison, been enjoying your videos, TFS. When I apply gesso for this purpose, it’s to add texture, with thick and thin areas and even small areas w no gesso at all or such a thin layer that it’s barely there. If you put a thick layer on then I agree it would feel kind of futile, but not so when applied in a dancing type of way haha. I started out determined to learn (realistic) watercolor but it frustrated me bc so easy to make mistakes and hard to correct. So I resorted to going over a “failed” wc painting with gesso here and there, going for a beautiful abstract affect with a lot of light areas and it worked out great. It’s kind of my go to now (except I skip the realistic watercolor part completely 😂)
