Automotive side and rear tempered glass is tough as hell! I used to work in a salvage yard and I could sometimes whale on side and rear glass 5 or 6 times with a full-sized sledge hammer (8 lbs.) before it would break. Windshields... not so much. Sometimes they spiderweb if you threw a decent sized rock at them. Not sure what the logic was behind using multi-layer glass for windshields, since they never really did their job of holding all the pieces together in the event of a shattering blow. The broken shards that did come off them were generally razor sharp. Tempered glass, when you could get it to break just breaks into little round or multi-sided chunks. They're still sharp, but nothing compared to the front glass. Usually with tempered glass, it will break a lot easier from the inside, than the outside. That's why those glove box emergency glass breakers work pretty well, plus they put all the force into one tiny point. Good demo, and that 4 mil. safety film evidently did some good also.😉 I think Tesla needs to rethink their strategy, and maybe stick with something developed by Corning Glass that will meet safety standards and not compromise the passengers. @@AngelLestat2 I agree. I have tried to break a front window with a sledgehammer before but it does look like the glass was much stronger after the laminate was applied.
@@JupiterDrifterX laminated windows (usually front and back) could break but they keep shape, tempered windows (sides) are harder to break, but once they do, they shatter into thousand pieces for safety. In this case, the film seem to make it stronger, but as we could see, even before the film was strong enough.
The thing is car side windows are made of _tempered glass._ Unless you have a 5kg hammer, hitting it dead center is exactly how to *not* break the window. You can take something tiny like a small rock or bits of spark plugs and throw it at the corner of the window and it will shatter with really less force.
How did that regular glass take all that? I remember when I was YOUNG my mom got a new car, and I can’t remember why but I threw a TINY rock, you know like all the very small rocks in gravel, and like not a hard throw either, I tossed that shit and it shatter her front driver side window! And even today, I feel like if I went up to any car today, and hit it with a hammer at half the force I would shatter it
It is because a point that’s sharp like little pebbles can break passenger side and driver side windows with ease, that’s why windshields are made with laminated glass so they can survive a sharp object that could kick up on the highway or freeway
Because it's not regular glass. Automotive glass is pretty damned strong by itself. The glass they use now is different than the glass they used on my 89 Caprice lol. That would chip from nothing... Glass now doesn't chip as easily or break in general. Tempered glass is super strong That and tempered glass is defeated by small sharp objects like pebbles or.... A crushed sparkplug ceramic for instance lol
Here’s my theory. Since in the slow-mo you can see the flex in the door whenever the glass was being hit, that flex is absorbing and distributing the impact of the glass. The reason that during the Cybertruck unveil, the glass failed is because the body material of the Cybertruck is far more rigid and therefore lacks the flex required to absorb the majority of the impact, causing the glass to shatter. An old Golf doesn’t have that sort of rigidity in its structure and the impact can therefore be spread out.
8:31 you're driving at night and you stop to eat suddenly a psychopath Runs towards you're car with a hammer but then you realise You're driving a tesla cybertruck So you just keep eating
Knowing glass will break, could have laid out a huge plastic sheet to catch glass shards, thus leasen vacuuming car interior. Need a consistent test. Measure by dropping steel balls of different weight from different height.
The rock being tiny is what makes the window break. Firefighters use a pen-sized tool to crack windows and it needs just a little force to shatter the window to pieces

@@PlutoProtogen What they will use failed test #1 and cracked to the steel ball thing lmao
@@PlutoProtogen take for granted. You kind of have to be a pretty strong dude to be able to get a good swing with a 4000kg hammer in general.
It's not easy swinging it around xd
Have never broken a car glass since 2003. Conclusion: thanks for your video, others might need it.
Glad to help

Window: Gets beaten by a hammer repeatedly with no scratches

Tesla's windows are plane, curved windows are way stonger.
Yea true
No golf mk4 Windows are stronger
NOKIA 3310 BEGS TO DIFFER
That's the point, it's the flaw that tesla has
I might be wrong, but I think the cybertuck's windows were a little bit curved.
Not the windshield tho.
Carhax: makes video
The car: 😨😨😨
These are curved, big difference
Finally someone mentioned it!! Fact is that any curved surface will flex and absorb impact better then a Flat one.
then have curved glass on the Tesla then. The pyramid shape looks ugly anyway.
Whodly Fire hair curved are not bulletproof, they just absorb shock better under these very specific circumstances if this guy used a screwdriver instead of a hammer not even his magic tint would suffice. I am not a Tesla fanboy, just saying.
@@jamespong6588 check other videos of people trying to break normal car windows with screwdrivers or other metal edge tools, it is the same, normal car windows resist a lot.
And they are fully closed, final product and prob haven't been tested several times before the vid

Its got everything to do with how well the glass is supported! You would probably have very different results on a car made of thinner material in the door… i dont want a flame war so won’t mention a manufacturer! I know this from personal experience how solidly built the golf!
Tesla Cybertruck: my glass is the strongest car glass in the world
Vw golf: hold my diesel

I have a reservation for the Cyber truck. I have to say this videos pretty awesome! Nice work.
is not awesome, all normal car windows are strong like that, check other videos on people trying to break them.
@@JupiterDrifterX 😂😂 if u say so but I broke my neighbour's car Window with just a rock
Steve- Locks keys in car
Jimmy- Oh no, just break a window
Steve- well
Watching you tint and install that windshield was like watching an artist paint a landscape. Very professional.
The thing is car side windows are made of _tempered glass._ Unless you have a 5kg hammer, hitting it dead center is exactly how to *not* break the window. You can take something tiny like a small rock or bits of spark plugs and throw it at the corner of the window and it will shatter with really less force.
If It was my car, I would have around been crying when he started with the metal ball
Thank you for demonstrating to us about the glass. You worked hard and had to clean up the mess. Thanks once again.
That glass has been definitely built by nokia
4:20 *mr Krabs voice:* “me millionth dollar”
omg so funny haha
Small contact area= more pressure
Because it's not regular glass. Automotive glass is pretty damned strong by itself. The glass they use now is different than the glass they used on my 89 Caprice lol. That would chip from nothing... Glass now doesn't chip as easily or break in general. Tempered glass is super strong
That and tempered glass is defeated by small sharp objects like pebbles or.... A crushed sparkplug ceramic for instance lol
Because back then automotive glass wasnt as well build as nowadays car...
who used to flick small pieces of ceramic (from a broken spark plug) at a car window? it shatters straight away.
Volkswagen really out here making plastic windows
lmao xd
@Nathan Knauss it's a joke...
@Nathan Knauss no one finds it funny
🤣🤣 both hilarious!
The German glass is like, "Limited UNSTOPPABLE"
Fixing part was more satisfying.. now I know how to handle my mechanic when he says he needs a week to fix the glass😅
Indian mallu ano
Here’s my theory. Since in the slow-mo you can see the flex in the door whenever the glass was being hit, that flex is absorbing and distributing the impact of the glass. The reason that during the Cybertruck unveil, the glass failed is because the body material of the Cybertruck is far more rigid and therefore lacks the flex required to absorb the majority of the impact, causing the glass to shatter. An old Golf doesn’t have that sort of rigidity in its structure and the impact can therefore be spread out.
I doubt it but what if the window fail was planned for more publicity.

4:08 when dad and mom says they will be home in 5 minutes
Knowing glass will break, could have laid out a huge plastic sheet to catch glass shards, thus leasen vacuuming car interior. Need a consistent test. Measure by dropping steel balls of different weight from different height.
A tiny rock: touches the windshield
The car: break’s down
Haha
The rock being tiny is what makes the window break. Firefighters use a pen-sized tool to crack windows and it needs just a little force to shatter the window to pieces
