    I agree with what you said about ads, except for this. Never ever skip Internet Historian ads. Never. They are beyond ads. They're entertainment in and of themselves and very constantly mock the product itself. If I recall correctly, he made ridiculous ads to try and lose his sponsors, and see how far he could push it.

      He's like the only guy on TH-cam that can get away with completely changing the Raid: Shadow Legends ad script. They're usually ultra strict about it.

    That's actually is the genius of Murray's code. It's some kind of algorithm that allows trillions of planets to exist in the same vast universe. They're all using same limited library of assets, of course. But each planet is ultimately a seed for generation using these assets, which is just few symbols. There's no storage issue since everything is loaded and unloaded on demand.

    • @possumverde
      @possumverde 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@CruelestChris I think it was assumed by the press that the "atoms" would be based on real life physics. The actual goal seems to have been an imaginary periodic table with far fewer elements and greatly simplified rules of interaction from which everything would be generated. Much like how Bose Einstein Condensates can behave as a single mega atom of their element, the "atoms" in the game system could be macro in scale and still work.

  • @frokghug

    In reference to not being able to find someone in the game, even if you could contact your friend. It would be more akin to you calling a friend who lives in another state and doesn’t know where you live to find his own way to you based on what you’re telling him it looks like outside your house. Without a map or a means to locate or even identify a planet in relation to another that could be immeasurably far away in-game it would be impossible to try to coordinate unless by pure chance you already happened to be extremely close.

    • @RazanaArcclaw
      @RazanaArcclaw 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Exactly this ^^^
      You may know what planet your on, but the map is unrevealed, you need to each individually reveal it, and player made maps are going to take ages. so for you to find your friend you lot bassically need to fly random directions and hope you cross paths at some point, or hope an online map tool pops up. It would be like in minecraft if you spawned in random places, and had no button to tell you what co-ordinates you are at.

    • @CruelestChris
      @CruelestChris 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The thing is the "find nearby players" feature was in the game at launch, because they'd had to cut the multiplayer so late in the day that feature was already complete. As Sean describes it, the OG multiplayer was like the "Joint Exploration" added in _Atlas Rises_ where the other player was a marker rather than fully shown as a character model, and you couldn't really interact much.

  • @possumverde
    @possumverde 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    I'm pretty sure the "every atom procedural" idea was that the game would have it's own imaginary periodic table (with far fewer elements) from which everything would be generated based on particular combinations of those elements and greatly simplified rules. A lofty goal, but much easier to model than the real thing.

    A couple things about the x quintillion stars or whatever stars, Yes it is FULL GALAXY SIZE because it only has to load up systems that players are currently in, the rest can be stored as a block of compressed "save" code (like how your save games don't need to take up the entire space of a whole new game to save every detail), as for light speed, your hyper drive can only jump so far with a single unit of fuel, and you have to constantly make more fuel, and its very hard to navigate the literal thousands of stars that can fill your screen in a single galactic coordinate, literally the easiest way I've found to navigate is to get the coordinates to gate portals, which were added later on, and abuse black holes to jump vast distances, which also were added later, and the whole process to cross 1/4 to 1/3 of the galaxy from the center "ring" (relative to the core) took 4+ hours of constant jumping with CHEATS FOR FUEL

    The Multiplayer fiasco is due to it actually being massively single player Online gameplay. If you are the first person on a planet you could name the planet, name the plants and name the animals. And then upload the names to the internet database. Subsequent players will see your names that you gave things. So there are internet interactive features, but not actual multiplayer interactions. Likewise its not impossible to find systems where other people are at, but would be hard to get to a planet your friend is at. That said at game launch this was all sort of confusing, and there were mixed messages all over. They had posted about the naming things, but there was a lot of hype about it being like games like Rust or Dayz, sort of a survival game in space with potentially hostile players that you might need to hide from. And then tweets saying its not multiplayer. It was very confusing.

    I would like a red dead redemption set in the 80s as a narcos cowboy for cartels set in Mexico and Texas smuggling drugs and fighting other cartels and cops and work with crooked cops
