Thanks for the information, didn't notice on my first inspection of the motor casing that the prongs were broken till I found this video. Pretty sure that compression fitting will fix the issue.
Mine has started making a LOUD popping noise and tries to jam up as soon as the rake begins to lift. We removed the rake and put it back, inspected and found no visible obstructions along the track. Hopefully your video will be just the answer we’ve been seeking! 🤞 This is my second one of these litter boxes (cats destroyed the cord on the first one)…
It may be the same problem that i had in the video. Follow the process for removing the screws at the begining of the video and check for broken plastic tabs inside.
Thank you so much for your suggestion and video! I finally got up the nerve to take it apart tonight, but did not see any broken tabs. There was a little bit of litter inside the unit, so I emptied it out hoping that might be the problem. Unfortunately, as soon as I put it back together and set it back on the litter box, it began popping and skipping again halfway through the cycle… I may have a go at it again in a few days. 🤞
I also went ahead and ordered a third one of these. Aside from the recent issues, I can’t imagine going back to regular litter boxes again with my four cats! 😣
@@KimberlyFaithLee I've purchased 3 of them as well. The company used to be good about allowing the purchase of a new motor, but I've been having trouble with them lately saying they'll ony replace the motor if it's under warranty & if the box was purchased from one of their approved sellers. (I bought the last one from eBay, completely unaware that it wouldn't be a valid seller.) These ARE the best litter boxes -- WHEN they work.
@@jodykaplan6293 When I called the company, they told me that I was past my warranty so there was nothing they could do. Now two of them are making popping noises, but they are still working, so I’m going to let them run as long as they can. However, I know that with the popping and jumping they’re doing, I can’t expect them to last as long as they would if they were operating smoothly…. Still, better by far than ordinary litter boxes.
Dave can you tell me how to make the rake get all the little pieces that are left behind? Thank you for your time and for all your wonderful tips. Mary Lou
Thanks for the question ! I use an all natural walnut clumping cat litter, which only starts to leave bits and pieces behind when the litter is getting old and no longer clumps.... Habe you tried changing out the kitty litter with fresh litter ? Once my kitty litter starts doing that, i let it run down to the minimum level, then dump the who.e box out and start fresh... Hope this helps.
I'm also having this problem. When I took out the screws of the motor, a lot of pieces fell out. Can you show us where they go? All the little wheels fell out, as well as the lever, the wire, a flat metal piece with 2 holes in it and a spring! I can't figure out where they go. I did buy the compression pieces (I have 2 boxes with broken motors), but the little plastic molded piece isn't actually broken.
Sorry too hear about that, there are alot of tiny pieces in there ! Have my hands full getting ready for the Hobbit Home build (daves hobbit home build, on facebook ) If you pause this video at the 2 minute or 7 minute time, it shows a fairly good picture of the layout of pieces. Let me know how you make out !
@@youcandoitdave6058 Thank you so much for your response! I will take a picture of the pieces that I'm talking about & try to post it. I can figure out the big ones and the gears (thanks to the Spirograph of my youth!), but there are some little ones that have me stumped.
I did have a problem with the spring near the area where i made the repair. Took me a minute too figure out that the spring goes UNDERNEATH the top large gear. I will habe to make a video... :)
The only time my litter boxes will not reverse, is when i engage the motor unit clutch with the rake / motor unit not all the way back as far as it will go. It then jams up against the curved far end of the litter box and stops. There is a line on the top - of the one side of the litter box that the motor unit lines up with. Pull down on the clutch lever, ( on the side of the motor unit ) push the rack all the way back - behind that line - then flip up the clutch lever to engage the clutch. It should cycle normally after that. Hope this helps !
I followed these instructions exactly and had great success repairing the litter box. Thank you for sharing your experience!
good to hear !

Thanks Dave, got the litter box back in business! 👍🏼
Great content! Your narration and video made my repair successful and easy! Thank you!
Glad it helped! I try to cover all the bases.

A 25-cent compression fitting is another expense without the priceless knowledge needed to figure out and fix the problem.
I have 2 that have failed. The first one broke the gears

If you really get stuck, i can make up an assembly video for ya.

I can't figure out how to post the picture, but, essentially, the pieces I'm most stumped by are a spring and a flat brass piece with 2 holes in it.

How do i remove the motor?
