Hey! 2 questions! Why the 2-2 fingering (example: measure 11) And last measure...is that an open D or really a finger 1 (if so, what position) Thanks! Love this piece :)
m.11 - an ornamental glissando is added, and not well-placed with the 1-1 slide. With the 2-2, we slide into an extension 1 x 2, while with a 1-1 slide we are obliged to shift back to 1st position for the rest of m.11. I made a video on how to find the best fingerings for cello players, based on a short formula of statistical significance. In the micro, the 1-1 works for those three notes, but in macro, we shift too many times while risking our intonation with the 1-1 slide, YET the difference more valid than sound. TBH, the song is better played in extended 1st, with the 2nd playing every F# and B, the 3rd playing C# and F#. You can change it in MuseScore. Try different approaches and if you find the 1-1 slide is better when you play it, then have fun!
First comment! This helped me a lot because my class is playing this song and I didn’t understand it. This helped me understand it. Thank you!
You are welcome, Chloe!
Hi Jonathan, thank you so much for this most excellent lesson, brilliant! 100%.
You're welcome. Kathleen. Honestly, it was a cellist on Reddit that recommended this to me. Glad you like it!
