The rats might be smelling you from the trap, give it a good wash with just water then wear gloves when you're setting it. You might wanna leave it baited but not set for a week, get them used to it, then set it with a real hair trigger

Always remember to wipe the trap down with cold wood ash. Edit: Conibear traps which are used by professional trappers operate quite similarly to this one. Before using the traps they are boiled with logwood ash to remove oil from the manufacturing process and human scent. It makes all the difference.
We use these traps (and larger Koro traps) in our Wildlife Damage Control services frequently. These smaller traps work well for squirrels and rats that are traveling through the gutters, especially under leaf gaurds. The rodents then have perfect tunnels to run through, and from which to chew holes into the home or business. Place a few of these inside the gutter, on either side of the entry/exit hole, and "SHAZAM!" You'll catch the critter coming or going, no bait necessary.
Hey Shawn. I was working on a smart rat that got into my home for over 6 months and nothing worked until I put a leg-hold trap under sand in a box with some bait spread all over the sand. A piece of tissue with a thin layer of sand was over the trigger pad. I lashed the trap to a can of paint with thick copper wire and then set up another snap trap nearby as I expected the rat to bounce around and hoped it would fall onto the snap. It worked perfectly with the leg latched in the leg-hold and its head in the snap trap. The rat tried to chew off the copper wire before being garrotted as all the insulation on the wire was shredded on the floor. I slept well that night.
Matthew Trzcinski , Thats true! Trappers have to boil their new traps clean & then again in woodchips or pine tree needles from the area theyre trapping in. Also putting the scents into the hot melted boiling wax pot in the last step to weatherproof/lubricate em. The wildlife is WAY too smart to get near anything that smells "out of place". Some trappers just put the wax on top of the boiling water & being lighter than water it coats the traps being pulled out to hang/dry but that leaves water droplets on the metal UNDER the wax coating that rusts & spooks the critters. Rust oders coming through the wax also tips off the critters. Good trappers boil off their factory oils, reboil em in scented water, dry compleatly & then drop the traps into the scented boiling wax & letting them set til the wax is smoking before pulling them out to drip off the excess & dry. Then handeling the traps w scented gloves when setting them to keep all human scents off them.
For those rats: Spring loop snare right in the passage they've been using to get through that fence. They seem to be on a habitual route, so that should be their weakness.

I don't know if you read your comments but I have the same trap on my channel and I found the best way to make sure that rats and other critters don't steal the bait is install a metal grate on the back. A while back Kroger had these hot dog grill grates that work perfectly. Just got to get a metal cutter, some pliers, and some zip ties and nothing will steal your bae again. Also note don't be like me and forget it out in the rain cause it rusts really quickly. But this is a great trap. Took out a ton of squirrels that where killing my garden.
Dch 75 , A rat trap screwed about a foot up from the ground to the side of a tree baited w peanut butter works great for squirlls. Make sure the snap bar is on the downside. Busts their lil skulls. If you want to make sure theyre not pulled out by other predators put wire nails up through the bottom of the wood just inside the snap bars strike zone. Can put wire snares up a leaning pole w the snares hanging just above the leaning pole & catch a whole family if the snares are placed properly. Coat hanger wire works great for the snare hangers. Run peanut butter up the length of the top of the snare pole. Dont need much just a smear for scent.
hey Shawn try boiling the trap in nut hulls it stains the trap and removes odors also use rubber gloves so that there is no human scent, and bury the trap in a cubby hole it will still be effective but they may not shy as easy
I don't know if you already know this or even if it's useful. But some rats are neophobic and wary of anything new. My uncle had a rat problem in his chicken coop. Rats would avoid the traps so to entice them in for 3 nights he would put the trap out baited but not set on the fourth night it was set and 95% of the time one of those careful rats was dead in the trap. Hmm it seems two Rattus norvegicus watched and disliked this video.
I have to say, I never really understood the point of that practice. A rat isn't going to know the difference between a set & baited trap and an unset & baited one. Why not keep it set from day 1 and just accept the reality that it's going to take time for the animal to muster the courage to go into it.
It always seemed odd to me as well. But uncle Colin said that the unset baited trap would get them accustomed to the "new piece of furniture" faster so they would approach it for a feed, get some food and accept it....like I said odd but who knows the inner workings of the rats mind?
I think the problem is that people move their traps so often that they're always "new furniture", and that the problem would be solved by leaving the trap in position, unbaited and unset when it's not being used, instead of removing it. And I think people have misunderstood this practice for leaving it baited and unset. I have live-catch mink traps that I leave in position when I'm not using them, and that's something that actually makes sense. They never become a "new piece of furniture" and I'm not missing any opportunities to catch anything. During season I can have them set and baited over a weekend, but I have to shut them during the work week, because I'm not there to check on them daily.
@@Dimetropteryx They're too cautious around new things and are able to evade the traps that spring because they're so quick to react. By leaving the traps unset for a few days, they learn it's ok to eat the bait because nothing happened several times before and when they get comfortable with the traps, they let their guard down to an extent and that's when they can get caught. You can count on it that once they set of a trap without getting caught, that rat won't touch those traps ever again. They"re very smart and alert animals.
For some reason old people find it amusing to throw stale bread, old food, snacks on their back porch to watch the squirrels. Then get a rodent problem in the house.
I purchased this trap and a conibear trap. I built similar boxes for both traps. I've never caught a rat with the koro but have caught MANY Squirrels. The conibear trap caught the MOMMA Norway rat. I was mortified when I caught that beast. Conibear set at top of hole in ground, w sunflower seeds at the bottom FTW. SHABAM!
The Koro trap is very versatile. Next time put the Koro inside the hole they were using in the video. I still bait them but in this case it really isn't necessary because they have to use the trap to get out. Works great that way. Also, because of the versatility you can attach the Koro over holes up high, like in the eaves of homes, using some screws and hardware cloth. This trap is fantastic!
I am no expert on catching rats, but my grandfather used to use large wooden base snap traps (giant mouse traps). He would buy a can of sardines and feed the sardines to the cats and then coat the trap with the oil brine from the can, for bait he used ground corn cattle feed with molasses cattle supplement pellets. After he caught a rat he would soak the trap in boiling water, dry, and recoat with sardine brine and reset. He was very successful with this setup he usually caught two rats a day per setup (black Norway rats).
You city dwellers run to hospital with every little bruise. I guess its partly because office jobs have paid medical leave and because its simply in proximity. But you are weaklings anyway :)
That is true but if it is you know you at least you can strap it up a bit and try and protect it to prevent it being made worse, if its not, you can get away with normal mobility.
Love your videos!! My Son and I have recreated a few of your traps and had a blast! As for the thumb- drill through the nail with a micro drill-bit to relieve the pressure, that way you won't lose the whole nail. (plus it feels soooo much better)
To relieve if you have pain in your thumb just take a really small drill bit and by hand drill just through the center of where the blood circle is under your thumbnail, that takes the pain away by relieving the pressure that is built up under the nail
Shawn, I'm not sure if this has already been said but Norway Rats (rattus norvegicus) is 'neophobic', they fear the new and unfamiliar. Try pre-baiting the trap for several nights to let them get used to it. Don't move the trap, keep it in the same location. You'll start catching them. Also try using sardines as bait. 😎👍
Hello Shawn Woods, this traps is very alike the small bear traps I use to hunt for local edible rodents. I've found that sticking the peanut butter -UNDER- the trigger plate will force the rodents to step on it to get to it. It never has failed me.
I read somewhere that rat traps should be raised off the ground, like hang on the wall or something so the rat will have to be on two legs to reach the bait, they get off balanced and will trigger the trap more easily.
I think a large snap trap buried just below the dirt surface in front of the rat's tunnel will do the job. no bait required. I would even go as far as burying several of the large snap traps around the rat's tunnel's entrance. It's bound to step on one of them. what it does not see will not bother it, plus dirt on top of the trap may even cover the smell.
Love your channel, rats are super cautious/neophobic , a wooden tunnel to protect chickens with a Fenn trap (uk) or Ive seen coyote trap on u tube buried in dirt or sawdust in the box might work. i always prebait traps for 3-5 days with rolled oats all over the trap, rats love it . When i set trap rolled oats sprinkled on trap pan onto mix of cooking oil and peannut butter works as oats stick to mix and rats have to work at it. if you make a small wooden tunnel with a small trough for the trap so rats cant see the covered trap (and its level with floor of tunnel) then you should get a good result. Also seen a few posts for A24 traps people have not caught on the supplied bait but changed bait in pot for fish meal, Carp fishing bait etc and had good success, keep up the good work
The recoil threw the trap backward. It fatally hit the squirrel on the head, but only caught it by the paws. Almost a miss. Many trap designs neglect recoil. Put this trap against a wall - that would block recoil and prevent safe entry through the rear.
did you try baiting it without it armed? Sometimes they will smell some kind of pheromones on the trap and stay away from it. Build it with gloves on? Soak it in peanut oil? Not sure what you can try, but I am sure you are entirely capable. The ones I've caught took time and patience. Keeping the trap there and loaded for long-term is good idea. I'd have mine go empty for a week or two and when they get hungry enough they will eat.

Hey, Shawn, just an idea, but maybe part of the problem with your rat traps is the type of bait you put out. Rats are omnivores unlike mice! I had several pet rats, and not only did my girls love things like sunflower seeds and peanut butter, but they also liked meats like processed sausage and bits of chicken. I bet if you put some of that Norway bread spread of the liver and fish paste and whatnot on the trap, not only would it draw in more rats (because protein is pretty important to their diet), but the smell might also be enough to overpower the scent of your human hands. Just an idea! No clue if you've already solved your rat problem or not, but I figured I'd weigh in!
If your finger starts bothering/causing trobbing pain, you can pierce the nail to relieve the blood clotting underneath. But make sure you dont get it infected (considering what you handle with your hands, you should be extremely careful)
For smart rats. I use a fenn trap . Dig shallow hole big enough for the trap. Cover with tissue kitchen towel then cover lightly with soil just enough to cover the towel , sprinkle the bait . You will get the smart ones, I guarantee. Thanks for all your videos.
The best way I have found to catch the trap shy rats is to turn your box into a bait station for a week or more, let them get used to getting food from it, then put the trap back in. Sometimes I will even put the trap back in and not set it, so they get acquainted with it not being a threat. Then start setting it. But you are always going to have that one that just will not go for it!
Our attempts to trap Norway rats might work once. After that, the rest stayed away. Your own scent could be a cue for the rats, you might try wiping the traps clean before setting them out.
The rats by us are very smart. They have figured out how to take bait without tripping the trap. I ended up blocking it's entrance with a live trap. It avoided the trap and went in a different way. So I can't wait to see some rat trap videos.
When you setting the trap, put a piece of wood or whatever down incase it triggers by mistake. That way your finger wont take the full blunt force of it
I used to have Smart rats and how I caught them was I got a 6 gallon tall bucket and buried it flush to the ground and put a board over it. Then I filled it with used cooking oil
Hey Shawn, just so you know there's a very high pitch whine in the night footage of the rats. Really annoying if you can hear it. Might want to filter out the super high parts of the audio.
Since the rats seem to be using their noses so much, maybe boil these traps to remove the grease and then wax them like canine foothold traps. Store them outside and only touch them with gloves. Maybe that would eliminate enough of the human odor to build the rat's confidence. Just a thought.

Fur trappers boil their metal traps in tannic acid to get rid of all oil and metal smell and cover human scent. Boil some sumac tops, walnut husks, or leaves with the trap for a while. You might want to just go with a standard leg hold/jump trap for fur bearers. Put peanut butter on the pan and pull the pan down from the bottom/underneath to a hair trigger. No need to bury it or direct them probably, but leaning a piece of something, old wood or brush against a wall over it will make them more comfortable. Good luck.
you could also make the viewing box out of recycled lumber something that's just laying around the chicken coop or barn the rat's will be used to the way it smells
Might be a little expensive, but if you are able to set up covertly in the barn with a night vision scope on an accurate pellet gun, you may get the upper hand on the Norway Rats. There's a channel where a guy uses this method on his farm.
Shawn with brown rats you gotta be really patient. All you gotta do is leave the traps out for a week or so so the can get used to it, then BAM! If you keep shuffling the traps around you are just restarting the process
Try conibear 110 traps for those rats. It has a more open design and that might make the feel safer. Also try dunking the traps in dye if you get them new. Are the rats scared of the traps themselves, or is it your scent that is scaring them?
Why did the A24 not work? I was under the impression that a carcass would simply drop and be carried away by a predator. Is is due to the fact that some rats saw a comrade die? Or was it due to how the A24 was placed too low to the ground?
I think that the rat can detect easily that something isnt right because the trap itself does not match the scenery. I would try to hide the trap in natural thing like leafs, pieces of wood, grass, even a bit of garbage to hide any possible odor you could have left on the trap .. insects .. i dont know, make the trap "invisible" for the rat. Rats eat and chew thing. The thing they detect are safe. Just make the trap look like it wasn a trap. I guess that electric showck ones are very easy to hide. You can extend wires from the Victor electronic. I dont know the ability if this rodents to feel electric signals on wires ... probably shield them until the last feet.
I know you probably won't see this but can you explain to me what I'm seeing in the unedited footage? It looks like the ground squirrel's head doesn't get caught but it's foot does. Did the trap hit it on the back of the neck?
for those big rats......may i suggest a devious little piece of evil that i like to call........"the tangler" (cue evil villain laughter)..... but back to reality, it is between 4 and 6 strings coated with glue, arranged in a star-like pattern, with a cork or piece of 1" wood dowel at the center. bait is placed in a depression in the top of the cork or dowel, while the strings are attached to the bottom by a staple. i got the idea from an old D&D book called the monsterous compendium.......(see entry "tangle tree").
Is it possible that you would have norways and woodrats both in your house? I haven't been looking that closely, but so far have caught about 7 rats IN MY HOUSE over about 2 months. The last one had a velvety tail.. Do you find one or the other easier to catch? One of my neighbors seems to be piling bags of garbage in his back yard.. I having trouble with the critter snatching stuff without stepping on pan. I even but a cup on the bait stick and the critter has chewed off the plastic but still not stepped on the pan.
Two parts. My grandfather would always throw traps in a fire to remove the smell of blood and humans. Could you run a slow motion video on the termination video. Did it snap its neck if it did I assume the squirrel's reflex pulled him back.
It can be hard on the coop and the chickens but after a while you have to try something new.. A Browning A5 in 12gauge with BBs shouldt be effective. If that fails there is always ANFO mix.
been using mine with carrot with PB on the trap pan stick , catching voles and big field rats , finding alot like yours , the impact to their head is killing them but the kill bar is only pinching lips or arms , the kill bar needs an 2'' high extension
I wasted my money on one of these as well. It’s not the kill bar thats an issue it’s the dog. When the trap fires the dog comes flying foward and kicks the target out of the trap. Anything this trap can do a 120 coni can do better and then some at half the price.
@@bust3dstr8 i blocked the back side , filed some notches on the bait "stick" to help it hold the bait and bent it toward the rear of the trap as far as it would go with a carrot on it , contacted the seller and he said he would pass on my suggestions to the manufacturer, if they would weld a small piece of metal to force the dog toward the side instead flying straight outwars it would help ...... the pan and dog needs another look at by their R&D for sure , wouldnt take much to make this a way better trap , wish they had used a bolt or something so the pan can easily be replaced instead of cutting and rewelding it

as a former trapper, you are correct and use a cover scent..such as a natural earth scent or rat musk.
Alternatively, just make the who area smell like you - start pissing everywhere in your chicken coop so that your smell is on EVERYTHING.

He may be right about that. Rats are VERY suspicious of new things. Let them get used to the presence of the trap.
Try washing your traps and re-oiling them with vegetable oil. Machine oils might be the scent upsetting the rats.

@@Dimetropteryx They're too cautious around new things and are able to evade the traps that spring because they're so quick to react. By leaving the traps unset for a few days, they learn it's ok to eat the bait because nothing happened several times before and when they get comfortable with the traps, they let their guard down to an extent and that's when they can get caught. You can count on it that once they set of a trap without getting caught, that rat won't touch those traps ever again. They"re very smart and alert animals.

I purchased this trap and a conibear trap. I built similar boxes for both traps. I've never caught a rat with the koro but have caught MANY Squirrels. The conibear trap caught the MOMMA Norway rat. I was mortified when I caught that beast. Conibear set at top of hole in ground, w sunflower seeds at the bottom FTW. SHABAM!
The Koro trap is very versatile. Next time put the Koro inside the hole they were using in the video. I still bait them but in this case it really isn't necessary because they have to use the trap to get out. Works great that way. Also, because of the versatility you can attach the Koro over holes up high, like in the eaves of homes, using some screws and hardware cloth. This trap is fantastic!

I am no expert on catching rats, but my grandfather used to use large wooden base snap traps (giant mouse traps). He would buy a can of sardines and feed the sardines to the cats and then coat the trap with the oil brine from the can, for bait he used ground corn cattle feed with molasses cattle supplement pellets. After he caught a rat he would soak the trap in boiling water, dry, and recoat with sardine brine and reset. He was very successful with this setup he usually caught two rats a day per setup (black Norway rats).

That is true but if it is you know you at least you can strap it up a bit and try and protect it to prevent it being made worse, if its not, you can get away with normal mobility.

As for the thumb- drill through the nail with a micro drill-bit to relieve the pressure, that way you won't lose the whole nail. (plus it feels soooo much better)
You can also heat up a needle to the same effect
To relieve if you have pain in your thumb just take a really small drill bit and by hand drill just through the center of where the blood circle is under your thumbnail, that takes the pain away by relieving the pressure that is built up under the nail

Shawn, I'm not sure if this has already been said but Norway Rats (rattus norvegicus) is 'neophobic', they fear the new and unfamiliar. Try pre-baiting the trap for several nights to let them get used to it. Don't move the trap, keep it in the same location. You'll start catching them. Also try using sardines as bait. 😎👍
Hello Shawn Woods, this traps is very alike the small bear traps I use to hunt for local edible rodents. I've found that sticking the peanut butter -UNDER- the trigger plate will force the rodents to step on it to get to it. It never has failed me.
I read somewhere that rat traps should be raised off the ground, like hang on the wall or something so the rat will have to be on two legs to reach the bait, they get off balanced and will trigger the trap more easily.
I think a large snap trap buried just below the dirt surface in front of the rat's tunnel will do the job.
no bait required.
I would even go as far as burying several of the large snap traps around the rat's tunnel's entrance.
It's bound to step on one of them. what it does not see will not bother it, plus dirt on top of the trap
may even cover the smell.

Love your channel, rats are super cautious/neophobic , a wooden tunnel to protect chickens with a Fenn trap (uk) or Ive seen coyote trap on u tube buried in dirt or sawdust in the box might work. i always prebait traps for 3-5 days with rolled oats all over the trap, rats love it . When i set trap rolled oats sprinkled on trap pan onto mix of cooking oil and peannut butter works as oats stick to mix and rats have to work at it. if you make a small wooden tunnel with a small trough for the trap so rats cant see the covered trap (and its level with floor of tunnel) then you should get a good result. Also seen a few posts for A24 traps people have not caught on the supplied bait but changed bait in pot for fish meal, Carp fishing bait etc and had good success, keep up the good work

The recoil threw the trap backward. It fatally hit the squirrel on the head, but only caught it by the paws. Almost a miss. Many trap designs neglect recoil. Put this trap against a wall - that would block recoil and prevent safe entry through the rear.
did you try baiting it without it armed? Sometimes they will smell some kind of pheromones on the trap and stay away from it. Build it with gloves on? Soak it in peanut oil? Not sure what you can try, but I am sure you are entirely capable. The ones I've caught took time and patience. Keeping the trap there and loaded for long-term is good idea. I'd have mine go empty for a week or two and when they get hungry enough they will eat.

Hey, Shawn, just an idea, but maybe part of the problem with your rat traps is the type of bait you put out. Rats are omnivores unlike mice! I had several pet rats, and not only did my girls love things like sunflower seeds and peanut butter, but they also liked meats like processed sausage and bits of chicken.
I bet if you put some of that Norway bread spread of the liver and fish paste and whatnot on the trap, not only would it draw in more rats (because protein is pretty important to their diet), but the smell might also be enough to overpower the scent of your human hands.
Just an idea! No clue if you've already solved your rat problem or not, but I figured I'd weigh in!

If your finger starts bothering/causing trobbing pain, you can pierce the nail to relieve the blood clotting underneath. But make sure you dont get it infected (considering what you handle with your hands, you should be extremely careful)
For smart rats. I use a fenn trap . Dig shallow hole big enough for the trap. Cover with tissue kitchen towel then cover lightly with soil just enough to cover the towel , sprinkle the bait . You will get the smart ones, I guarantee. Thanks for all your videos.
The best way I have found to catch the trap shy rats is to turn your box into a bait station for a week or more, let them get used to getting food from it, then put the trap back in. Sometimes I will even put the trap back in and not set it, so they get acquainted with it not being a threat. Then start setting it. But you are always going to have that one that just will not go for it!
Our attempts to trap Norway rats might work once. After that, the rest stayed away. Your own scent could be a cue for the rats, you might try wiping the traps clean before setting them out.

I might suggest using tootsie rolls on the trap. I set a mouse trap with it and within an hour I cought a mouse . It worked well.
Do you do anything to mask your scent on the trap? Maybe the rats smell you on the trap? Just an observation. Keep up the great videos Shawn!
The rats by us are very smart. They have figured out how to take bait without tripping the trap. I ended up blocking it's entrance with a live trap. It avoided the trap and went in a different way. So I can't wait to see some rat trap videos.

When you setting the trap, put a piece of wood or whatever down incase it triggers by mistake. That way your finger wont take the full blunt force of it
My grandpa used to take a lighter, and burn off his smell, where he touched the trap. He said that once rats smell people, they know something is up.
I used to have Smart rats and how I caught them was I got a 6 gallon tall bucket and buried it flush to the ground and put a board over it. Then I filled it with used cooking oil

Cover all fresh traps with bacon grease. Use peanut butter.
Since the rats seem to be using their noses so much, maybe boil these traps to remove the grease and then wax them like canine foothold traps. Store them outside and only touch them with gloves. Maybe that would eliminate enough of the human odor to build the rat's confidence.
Just a thought.

Step.1.put some wall plaster in some water and mix it with rat food
Step.2.leave it out and you will catch rats

Shawn woods i got an suggestion of how to catch an smart rat like norway rats, put some bait that they really like on the front of the trap like spring trips, it will get comfortable and not afraid if you keep doing that
Fur trappers boil their metal traps in tannic acid to get rid of all oil and metal smell and cover human scent. Boil some sumac tops, walnut husks, or leaves with the trap for a while. You might want to just go with a standard leg hold/jump trap for fur bearers. Put peanut butter on the pan and pull the pan down from the bottom/underneath to a hair trigger. No need to bury it or direct them probably, but leaning a piece of something, old wood or brush against a wall over it will make them more comfortable. Good luck.
you could also make the viewing box out of recycled lumber something that's just laying around the chicken coop or barn the rat's will be used to the way it smells
I've found using a victor mouse trap with some peanut butter and crushed peanuts as bait works pretty well. Caught a few rats in my garage that way.
Might be a little expensive, but if you are able to set up covertly in the barn with a night vision scope on an accurate pellet gun, you may get the upper hand on the Norway Rats. There's a channel where a guy uses this method on his farm.
Try making a trap out of wooden parts from the chicken coop. Using any soil in the are to also mask the scent.

Shawn with brown rats you gotta be really patient. All you gotta do is leave the traps out for a week or so so the can get used to it, then BAM! If you keep shuffling the traps around you are just restarting the process
Try conibear 110 traps for those rats. It has a more open design and that might make the feel safer. Also try dunking the traps in dye if you get them new. Are the rats scared of the traps themselves, or is it your scent that is scaring them?
You should do more rat trap vids. They seem to be smarter and you outsmarting them would be interesting.
Why did the A24 not work? I was under the impression that a carcass would simply drop and be carried away by a predator. Is is due to the fact that some rats saw a comrade die? Or was it due to how the A24 was placed too low to the ground?

I think that the rat can detect easily that something isnt right because the trap itself does not match the scenery. I would try to hide the trap in natural thing like leafs, pieces of wood, grass, even a bit of garbage to hide any possible odor you could have left on the trap .. insects .. i dont know, make the trap "invisible" for the rat. Rats eat and chew thing. The thing they detect are safe. Just make the trap look like it wasn a trap. I guess that electric showck ones are very easy to hide. You can extend wires from the Victor electronic. I dont know the ability if this rodents to feel electric signals on wires ... probably shield them until the last feet.

for those big rats......may i suggest a devious little piece of evil that i like to call........"the tangler" (cue evil villain laughter).....
but back to reality, it is between 4 and 6 strings coated with glue, arranged in a star-like pattern, with a cork or piece of 1" wood dowel at the center.
bait is placed in a depression in the top of the cork or dowel, while the strings are attached to the bottom by a staple.
i got the idea from an old D&D book called the monsterous compendium.......(see entry "tangle tree").
Is it possible that you would have norways and woodrats both in your house? I haven't been looking that closely, but so far have caught about 7 rats IN MY HOUSE over about 2 months. The last one had a velvety tail.. Do you find one or the other easier to catch? One of my neighbors seems to be piling bags of garbage in his back yard.. Hate the idea of calling the city on him but...
I having trouble with the critter snatching stuff without stepping on pan. I even but a cup on the bait stick and the critter has chewed off the plastic but still not stepped on the pan.
Two parts. My grandfather would always throw traps in a fire to remove the smell of blood and humans. Could you run a slow motion video on the termination video. Did it snap its neck if it did I assume the squirrel's reflex pulled him back.
is the lever not a problem in the trap? if the animal comes from the lever side the lever wil hit it bfore the killbar
It can be hard on the coop and the chickens but after a while you have to try something new.. A Browning A5 in 12gauge with BBs shouldt be effective. If that fails there is always ANFO mix.
been using mine with carrot with PB on the trap pan stick , catching voles and big field rats , finding alot like yours , the impact to their head is killing them but the kill bar is only pinching lips or arms , the kill bar needs an 2'' high extension
I wasted my money on one of these as well. It’s not the kill bar thats an issue it’s the dog. When the trap fires the dog comes flying foward and kicks the target out of the trap. Anything this trap can do a 120 coni can do better and then some at half the price.
@@bust3dstr8 i blocked the back side , filed some notches on the bait "stick" to help it hold the bait and bent it toward the rear of the trap as far as it would go with a carrot on it , contacted the seller and he said he would pass on my suggestions to the manufacturer, if they would weld a small piece of metal to force the dog toward the side instead flying straight outwars it would help ...... the pan and dog needs another look at by their R&D for sure , wouldnt take much to make this a way better trap , wish they had used a bolt or something so the pan can easily be replaced instead of cutting and rewelding it
This is a very interesting item. Should be a part of every ALONE person's grabber trapper. Maybe even have bigger for a bear-snap trap and keeping intruders away...
