Someone recently broke into the barn and stole over $1000 of trail cameras. I don't want to show the barn on youtube because it would just make it a bigger target

I saw on another video theres a guy who noticed his stuff got stolen and he put bear trap underneath his trail cams and packed it with snow and went on another hunting trip for 1 week. Villian comeback to snoop around, got trapped and froze to death with no help

you had a LOT of rats going through the box, it would almost be worth while to use a larger trigger pad to set off the box........hell, why not make a box like 5' x 5'? lol...you could have caught a dozen!
Catch the Fox, and put it into a box that the rats are tricked into dropping into
Like a giant version of the trap used to catch Chewie, Han, Luke and the droids on Endor. Trigger in the middle and the walls shoot up trapping them.
Bucket traps would be sufficient. Check out some of the ones here on his channel. One trap setting can catch dozens of rats and mice.
@@JAlexanderG yeah, that seems to be the most efficient at mice, rats however.....they seem to shy away from the bucket traps. The best rat trap so far he's tested is that spring loaded pneumatic reset one that screws to the wall.....
I think since the bucket traps, the rest are just for fun and profit. Either the rolling log or walk the plank, nothing beats those.....

That's actually great idea against rats learning fast to avoid traps. It's like antibiotics - use multiple to make sure there are no survivors.

Make a box, the size of a mattress, put sunflower seeds under it, put a wifi camera with remote monitoring on it, run a string from the trip stick all the way in to your house and let the kids pull the string, Live!!!

FYI from a 28 yr handyman - for a shallow circular hole - do not use a hole saw - use a Forstner bit - it drills a flat bottomed hole as deep as you need! Just thought I'd mention it!

1. I guess we need a test to see if the box is necessary; the snap trap worked both times.
2. The box does at least make it easier to censor your videos for TH-cam.

I wonder if you could build this without the actual trap.
Make a it smaller and have pressure/motion sensors or something like that so as soon as they enter you trap them and can do what you need with them. Put a bunch of them around the barn and (theoretically) catch a bunch in one night.
If you build the lid out of lighter/thinner wood it won't slow the trap as much? 🤔

Thank you, Shawn, for another great trap video. You are one of the best sources of inspiration for our war on rodents here at our farm in Portugal. Since I lost my favorite dog to rodent-borne leptospirosis some years ago, this has been a major concern.
Cool, it kills them and puts them in a coffin all at once. With a larger box I see the potential for catching a bunch of mice at once. I would try turning the box up side down too, so they kind of boxed in more before the trap goes off.
You sounded like you were sing introducing the results of the mouse trap. Did you by chance have a cold then?
Your videos are censored if you show a trap catching/killing a mouse or rat. Are they blocked or even removed?
I notice a bunch of videos, most of which come from the Philippines or other countries showing mice or rats being killed. At least one shows mice being repeatedly being shocked. How do those channels get away with that?

Here's an idea: Put the new trail cam under a pre-fab outdoor shed, which has been propped up on one side with a shortened broom handle, and a string tied from the handle to the cam. The thief wants the camera, goes in and pulls on it (thieves aren't too smart), which drops the shed, trapping him inside. The next morning, one punch should be enough to subdue him (thieves are wussies), then 'give him a little flip' onto the beaver dam, and see what comes along!
Hey Shawn I'm a big fan from Canada! I remember when you used to show the full graphic videos. However, I totally understand your reasoning. TH-cam is very sensitive and I would hate to see your channel gets deleted. Ignore the very few people who complain 😅
TH-cam was demonetizing or removing some of his videos which is why he has to be more selective on his camera shots.

A couple of ferrets and a team of terriers the numbers would come right down.
I have watched your vedios forever and noticed that the rats seem to shy away from the traps on a regular basis. This got me to thinking that maby they smell your human scent on the traps and many you could take 2 boards, 1 handeled with gloves and the other with out and put bait on them to see if that is the reason they shy away. Just trying to help you get some befor they damage your barn. May even need to descent new ones with alchohol befor using.

IDEA: There were many rats around that box when it dropped. Perhaps the box could be large enough to catch them all, perhaps with a two-stage tripping mechanism. Maybe when it drops, a batch of carbon dioxide fills the box, killing them all humanely and without poisoning predators. Perhaps baking soda and vinegar to produce the carbon dioxide.
I had a rat in my flat, unfortunatly my own traps failed, it drwoned in my toilet. I miss it.

when working with rats you need to keep your human scent off the traps. the rats are extremely cautious with thinks that don't smell right.

I don't get why you are punished for showing killing rodents, when there is a channel of a person who uses minks and dogs to kill rats. He shows his animals hunting and killing the rats. He even skins a muskrat and shows it after in one video, nothing is hidden.
Is it harmful for animals to eat a mouse with a bot fly parasite?
With the trail cam can you watch video in real time as it's happening. And not have to retrieve the camera to find out what happened.
I recreated this trap cause of you and it works your amazing and now have a less of rats
using traps are better than using rat poison, if other animal got to eat the poisoned rat they would be poisoned as well, worse they might die.

One minor downside to this specific implementation is that if you catch live rodents, it'll be difficult to control their exit. This same principle could be used with a wire mesh box that one could simply submerge under water.

One thing I always wonder with your videos is wouldn't the effectiveness of the traps you test be highly affected by what season it is? For example, younger, less experienced mice in the spring.
They have babies all year tho, not just in spring. There are probably mice and rats of all ages, all the time unfortunately. That's one of the reasons they are so successful.
Shawn, thank you. I was hoping this would be a good way to keep a small dog from getting caught in a rat trap. But I don't think it's quite the solution. Do you have any solutions that keep small dogs out, but let rats in?

Okay... This might sound kind of gruesome but I have made some modifications to my standard rat traps that I use around my property. The rats and rock squirrels are enormous and sometimes get hit and only injured, not caught. I have resorted to putting nails (sharp tacks) all the way through (4-6 of them) the wooden trap at an angle just inside the kill bar. Seems to work VERY effectively as I have yet to find a sprung trap without a pest in it.
