I have always felt that no dark green paint really hits the spot for me. So, was thinking on picking up the set of 6 paints that are most suitable for Dark Angels as a test.
That fire warrior is lookin good! You're absolutely right to be wary of the hype machine... luckily these actually are pretty good paints. I'm happy that new painters are gonna be trying these out instead of the old warpaints blend 🙂
I’ve been using The Army Painter almost exclusively for nearly a year. In the colors I’ve used I’ve had a couple that were annoying but able to be worked around, but mostly I’ve had excellent results. So, unless Fanatic is WORSE than the current lines, I’m gonna be happy with it. My expectations are high enough that I went with the complete set.
I am new to the hobby, and just finished my first 40K Miniature, a Space Marine flamer unit. I used EXCLUSIVELY The Army Painter paints, however I did use Citadel Primers in a spray paint can, the Citadel spray primer is way more matte than The Army Painter primers, but that can also be fixed using washes and matte varnishes once done painting. I wholeheartedly endorse The Army Painter Warpaint Fanatic and Speedpaint 2.0 lines. They were great to work with, especially when used in a wet palette, coverage was excellent, and the colors are pigment rich. The other great thing about their latest paint products is that they have a massive number of paints in 6 different gradients per color type. You can find just about any shade of any color you need. Their metallics are EXCELLENT as they use both aluminum flake and mica and they even have about 20 colors to choose from in metallics so you can pretty much get that metallic look in just about any color without needing to mix unless you want to for shading purposes.
This is the first of your videos that I have discovered. I really like your calm, relaxed, honest delivery. So many miniature painters seem to be frenetic. This made a refreshing change. Got another sub.
I'm brand new to the hobby and have zero existing paints. I'm just now starting to buy brushes (Rosemary and Co.) and some Princeton synthetics. I've yet to decide on a Paint because I have no experience with any of them. I've watched a lot of videos and it does look like most painters are using paints from all brands. You might not be one of the bigger channels but your review has been the most helpful by far. TAP has good marketing yes, but it looks like they've got a really, good product too. Now If I could only settle on a paint scheme for my 10e Aeldari. Thanks for the video!
Most attractive thing is the colour triad/hex sets - Ive transitioned to ProAcryl from VMC/VGC and probably wont change, but I see these as challenging Monument with a strong product. I always liked the look of the Foundry paint sets and for me this is a modern interpretation
Thank you for your review, I appreciate your honesty. I'm new to the hobby coming from a Film and painting background, this kind of review is very helpful. Keep up the great work!
Ive been trying sets for awhile trying to find one i liked. I liked the colors of pro acryl but hated the prethinned consistancy. I really liked ak but neither of my local stores carry them anymore. I found two thincoats wave 1 real cheap on market place. they were pretty great as well but once again kind of tough to find locally. So really glad to hear the AP fanatics are good. I prefer their speed paints, and recently bought a few airpaints to try.
Yeah. Props to Army Painter. Warpaints were awful, but then speed paints and air paints were awesome. Definitely going to check these out when they come to Australia.
Will i replace my existing pro acryl, two thin coats and AK paints? Probably not but with how ubiquitous AP is its a boon for getting higher quality paint into more hands.
the side by side showcase of the new Fanatic paints and paints like Pro Acryl gave me a very good comparison in terms of how good these new paints are. I picked up a starter paint set from Army painter recently and can really see that these are fantastic paints. Thanks for your review of them, which reinforces my satisfaction of buying them too, knowing that they are really good
another issue no one mentioned so far is: how fast do the colors separate if you let them sit unused for a few weeks. does the pigments separate fast and build a hard blob at the bottom of the bottle and make the color useless? how long can you have the colors sit unused before they get unusable because of the separation. i used to paint with vallejo and they are still usable after a year not shaked or used. would be great if someone could say some about this issue. so far the fanatics look nice so far.
Great to see you dropping videos again! Love the vibe of the videos. You said in an older video you picked up 40K paint during the pandemic? If that’s the case, the level and skill you have painting minis is impressive and you can tell you care about this.
Really appreciated your review and especially the comparison of the AP fanatics line with pro acryl which I was also using for several years until I started doing more glazing and discovered that the pro acryl paints were a pain to thin down and switched to AK interactive 3rd generation which I've been using for the last year and finding a fair amount of success with glazing.
Not for me, they are pricing themselves to compete with GW but the best for matt and coverage and price are still going to be Vallejo, specially the newer game color. You can get each paint (not needed a set) for around 2.3 Eur per 18ml pots from retailers, a truck load of variety, etc. Still think the Army Painter 2.0 speedpaint is the better out-of-box one coat quick army painting tool. Army Painter is insane in terms of support, customer service and listening to feedback/research though, bought a set that had 2 crappy separated colors, shot them an email and they vouchered me to choose 2 paints with free delivery, and it was from a third party retailer the initial purchase. That buys a lot of trust even in this hype mode.
No, the speed paints are behave like inks or heavy washes that you coat all over a lightly primed model for single coat contrast of colors. The fanatic are more traditional acrylic miniature paints. Both definitely have their uses! I love speed paints too.
i wish i had a replacement for the old army painter matt black, the poor coverage of it is not a downside to me, its a tool in my arsenal that iam gonna loose soon
did army painter fix the "need to shake issue"? it's a "well known problem" good video about it on YT -> "Make Army Painter Paints Amazing: Fixing The Issues And Review" by Geek Gaming Scenics
Honestly, I'm turning to the "smaller fish" to get a feel for what they say; i.e. you. As you are "not involved in the hypebubble"; And from my point of view a lot of those bigger channels/influencer just say what the vendor (be it AP, or Pro Acryl or whatever) want to hear to further their influence and reach. I can't back that up , just my feeling at the moment as I think the "minipainting scene" is slowly turning to a more influencer based advertismentshow. If that makes sense any sense to you
Totally get that. But also I'd like to point out that I used to be a medium sized tech TH-camr (88k) and knew a lot of the other big fish in that space and I can honestly say that most of us worked very hard to maintain a high level of professional integrity. I believe that once that trust is lost with an audience you can't get it back that's why my integrity has never been for sale. It's simply not worth it. We don't work for these companies! I think especially in the hobby space there are a lot of good dudes with their hearts in the right place.
I'm starting to hate how many new editions of paints AP is coming out with. They're making it overly complicated like what GW is doing and that is just annoying. I like it simple, but that's probably just me. I think I'll just stick with the AP speedpaints and that's it.
Haha I said the model was janky! I got it in a trade and it was assembled all crazy and has issues all over. That’s why I didn’t use it for my army lol.
Are you going to be picking up Warpaints Fanatic?
I was on the fence about buying, but I think you helped sway me. Thanks!
I have always felt that no dark green paint really hits the spot for me. So, was thinking on picking up the set of 6 paints that are most suitable for Dark Angels as a test.
I’ll probably grab their 6 turquoise paints, they look promising compared to other brands turquoise.
Already order the mega set :)
Some. Greens and blues for me. Thanks for the review, it was definitely helpful.
Thanks for your thoughts in the new Fanatic paints! We hope that they find their way onto more projects from you in the future.
That fire warrior is lookin good! You're absolutely right to be wary of the hype machine... luckily these actually are pretty good paints. I'm happy that new painters are gonna be trying these out instead of the old warpaints blend 🙂
Thanks Brent! I’m really looking forward to playing with more colors from this range. I think AP is on a roll!

Awesome! If you like the old ones you are going to LOVE fanatic

I am happy with the Army Painter, good quality product, great customer service when i ask a question.

I feel your review is positive enough to get me to pick a triad up or the small set when they appear locally!

Thank you for the review, it is always nice to have hints of how paints perform :)
Will i replace my existing pro acryl, two thin coats and AK paints? Probably not but with how ubiquitous AP is its a boon for getting higher quality paint into more hands.
1000%
Check out stallys vid too. Army painter have taken everything that's wrong with most paint ranges and these paints cover them all
@STOOJIE yeah it's just that I HAVE these paints and I need to not give in to my paint hording ways
@corbingovers7559 yeah me too but I'm weak and I'm embracing it🤦🏻♂️😆

a simple honest review, nice to see it not being hyped.
Thanks! I do my best

That's right I started around Covid time. Thanks! I kind of just became obsessed with the hobby lol
So, a month and a half later, would you recommend me buying Fanatic or Pro Acryl? :)
Thank you for this review. These really do seem promising so far.
They do! Appreciate the kind words.
These Warpaints Phonetics sound real good!
That was a really awesome review.Thank you so much for the honest opinion…
My pleasure! I look forward to bringing you many more!
Thanks for the review ❤
Excellent review!
Great video! You can really see your passion!

GW are 12 ml and AP 18 ml, it's far cheapper in fact 😉
2:19 focus... fooocuuusss....
This is a great review, thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
this is perhaps a stupid question..but are the fanatic paints not like the speed paints ?
No, the speed paints are behave like inks or heavy washes that you coat all over a lightly primed model for single coat contrast of colors. The fanatic are more traditional acrylic miniature paints. Both definitely have their uses! I love speed paints too.

Don't sell yourself short your a small fish in the pond yes but you have 4.5 k followers for a good reason. Keep up the good work
I really appreciate that!
Cool
did army painter fix the "need to shake issue"?
it's a "well known problem"
good video about it on YT -> "Make Army Painter Paints Amazing: Fixing The Issues And Review" by Geek Gaming Scenics
Ive a few army painter paints where that doesn't even fix the problem, vortex mixer and agitators cant make them usable.
Looks cool. I'm new Sub on your channel.
Awesome! Welcome to the family

BIG marketing !
