    "What story is real?" There's a famous Joker quote from one of the comics, that says: "If I'm going to have a past, I prefer it to be multiple choice!" Part of his character is the mystery of who he is and how he came into existence. So there are TONS of different versions of his "origin story" to choose from (including the recent Joker movie), and all of them are equally possible. :)

      Yup, and the funny part is the mention that his fingerprints and face don't match anyone, and his clothes are custom made, which adds a real world element to his ambiguity.

      The Joker movie isn't the Joker, that's Loki-lite, so it's a Joke not the Joker. The whole point of the Joker not having a real backstory makes him more unpredictable, which is of course, the point.

    Heath Ledger's death was ruled an accidental overdose. I remember reading somewhere that he was prescribed several different medications from different doctors, and perhaps there was a bad reaction, or he took them too frequently. Whatever the case may be, it wasnt believed to be intentional, just unfortunate. He truly did give the performance of a lifetime here. He brought The Joker's menacing brilliance to life in a way that was whimsically unhinged and terrifying all at once. Its just unfortunate he never got to enjoy the fruits of his labor.

    Also remember that Batman is supposed to represent justice in order in the world whereas the Joker says that his single spark of chaos destroys all that. That's why he turns Harvey Dent into Two-Face to show that it just takes a simple push for somebody to go from being on the side of justice and order to being a part of Chaos this is why the Joker was always Batman's greatest enemy, similar to Superman and Lex Luthor

    When this film was coming out, most of the die-hard fans knew Harvey Dent was going to be play TwoFace. However, for people who might not have known, the production crew put in an early Easter egg. When Dent meets Commissioner Gordon in his office the first time, if you go back and look...to one side of Gordon's head (behind him), the files are messy, and to the other, they're neat, implying "TwoFace" was coming later.

They played siblings in the movie Donnie Darko (could make a great Halloween reaction, or just when you want a change-up into some time-travel mind-f*ck territory), and that energy is very obvious in the way they play off each other. She also plays opposite Will Ferrell in a weirdly great romcom, Stranger Than Fiction - highly recommend. I'm glad you're getting things back up again - thanks for all you do, Major!

    15 years later and still the greatest superhero movie of all time. P.S. The Joker killed A LOT of innocent people. Rachel, the fake Batman he tortured and killed hanging outside the Mayor's window. The 2 police officers he shot, one on the street before the chase scene and the one at the hospital. All the cops who blew up in the explosion from the cell phone inside the guy's belly. The judge, the former police chief (don't remember if he was corrupt). So the Joker murdered at least 12 people.

  • @Enrique-Garcia
    @Enrique-Garcia ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Random trivia: the scene where Joker blows up the hospital, the break in the explosions was NOT planned. Something went wrong with the explosives rigging and the explosions stopped. But Heath stayed in character, by playing with the detonator until the explosions kicked in again (his surprised reaction was legit). Furthermore, there was a shot INSIDE the bus Joker climbs into as it drives away from the exploding hospital where Heath also stayed in character, he never once looked back at the explosion (the shot was cut, but if you look at the bus he climbs into, you can see the camera inside).

    • @donaldjohnson1148
      @donaldjohnson1148 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's actually incorrect sir. Nolan, script writers and the story board editor have all stated in interviews and bts videos that this was planned from the beginning and was not an improv. In fact if you look up the making of videos that were included in the DVD you can actually see it drawn up on the story board. Many of the videos have been uploaded to you tube and you can find them. there are also plenty of other videos you can find where that scene is talked about. It's a misconception that took hold for some reason. But Nolan himself has maintained that was a planned shot.

    Lets go! This is easily the best comic book movie of all time! A few fun facts about the movie are that Heath Ledger won a posthumous Oscar for his role as joker and the semi truck flipping over was not CGI but instead a practical effect. Another is that this movie made the Oscars change how many films could be nominated for the best picture award because of all the backlash they got from not nominating The Dark Knight.

  • @patrioticjustice9040
    @patrioticjustice9040 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Heath Ledger put his heart and soul into the role. A lot of his lines and mannerisms are ad libbed, (such as the scene where he's clapping in his cell and everyone's looking at him like "Wtf?") He applied his makeup himself; they had a professional clown makeup artist there, but he wanted to make it look smeared and self applied by a madman. And my personal favorite; those punches Christian Bale threw at him in the interrogation room were real. Heath told Christian to punch him as hard as he could because this is something the real Batman and Joker would do; Batman would beat the shit out of the Joker, and the Joker would laugh it off the entire time.

    As far as I've heard the story about Heath Ledger's death, he had trouble sleeping (reason unknown, perhaps because of the Joker role, perhaps because of something benign, we will never know), so he had prescription for sleeping pills. He had also started filming a new movie that went on in a cold and damp atmosphere, and several got pneumonia, including Heath Ledger. The prescription medicines interacted in a bad way, and was the reason he dies. A team of other actors got together and finished his role in the new movie in his honor (can't remember the name of the movie). This is also a count up for A Knights Tale, it is ridiculous and funny, but Heath Ledger just brings the movie so much charm.

    Heath had walking pheumonia and couldn't sleep and probably was undiagnosed ADHD or something because he talked about his mind never being able to stop racing. He was ill and couldn't rest and the combination of prescription and over the counter meds was simple but toxic and ultimately fatal. He died six months before the film was released but right after he'd just finished all his scenes and work on this movie. Everyone involved with The Dark Knight said that the role of Joker did not affect him or lead to his death. They said he wasn't in a dark place or depressed or anything while filming it and was completely normal between scenes and skateboarding with extras on the set. Totally normal. It was just a tragic accident. He made one last movie and died during that one. That's the one he probably got sick during due to the weather. People just want to make something darker than it was. Heath's own father said the role didn't adversely affect him and that his death was just sadly his own fault due to a dumb mistake with the medication..

    Joker killed so many people. He killed the judge, the commissioner, cops, the fake batman, etc.

    Something that goes very unnoticed unless you know: the Joker constantly sticks his tongue out/does odd behaviors with his tongue. This is a noteable side effect of very long term use of antipsychotic drugs.

    To the Joker, every version of his origin or beginning that he tells is real. And his word and memory are all we have to go on.

    who said you're not supposed to like villains? Some of my favorite characters are the villains and anti-heroes. This movie is so damn good. I would've loved to see where Heath's career went after this role.

  • @apkelly01
    @apkelly01 ปีที่แล้ว

    When Heath was in the IMAX in London, they played the first 6 minutes of the film, the opening bank robbing scene, for him. It was being used as a promo for the film. He loved it so much he asked the projector operator to play it again. It's a pity he never got to see the entire film.

    I believe the reason that we feel like we like the joker in this movie is because of superbly amazing performance. If I had to pick villans that I like this version of him might be my favorite outta marvel and DC combined. His performance was so damn good that I'd like to say it might have been flawless. And I've never said that about any other actor. Everytime he's on the screen he makes you feel like you are there.

    What’s even more tragic, and I could be wrong about this but I’m pretty sure that in order to get into the crazy mindset and character of the joker, he had to take certain medication to portray such a character so intensely..which is said to have taken a toll on him mentally, eventually leading to his death. Definitely watch a Knights Tale, it’s so good. RIP to the legend

    The original origin of the joker will always be a mystery because the original writers and creators of the joker wrote 2 different origins and released them I think at the same time

    Heath was fantastic in 10 Things I Hate About You and it is probably my favorite HS movie next to Can't Hardly Wait. As others have said Maggie is the sister of Jake and they were in Donnie Darko together, it's a strange movie for sure but it is pretty gripping with a superb soundtrack and I believe Patrick Swayze's last performance. I would recommend all these movies but if you want to pay some respects to Heath 10 Things is hilariously good with a great cast and it's actually a modernization of Shakespeare's "A Taming of the Shrew".

    Ledger was on his way to being a superstar but he also had a lot of demons. He goes down in history unfortunately as a young dynamic actor that’s gone too soon but left a legacy. You can include James Dean, River Phoenix, Chadwick Boseman in that group.

    As for what Joker backstory is true; all, some, or none of them are! The point of the character is that he is an unreliable narrator, so any or all could be true. I really like the theory that he is an ex soldier. Love the reaction Major!

    Whenever I was a kid this was more like a horror movie or a slow burning drama than anything to me now it’s a masterpiece whenever I was a kid the Batman movie that was my favorite with the one with poison ivy and Arnold Schwarzenegger as Mr. freeze I mean yeah it seems like a toy commercial the entire film but it’s got an aesthetic of a dream
