Wrestling Bios Presents - The 2006 Return of D-Generation X
DX were the WWE's most popular faction during the late 90s and into the Attitude Era. While the group would receive new members in 1998, the original duo of Shawn Michaels and Triple H were really the trendsetters and groundbreakers. When HBK came back to the WWE in 2002, DX were not put together straight away but instead, Shawn and Triple H would have a highly acclaimed series of matches that spanned over years.
In 2006, the decision was made to bring HBK and The Game together once again and allow D-Generation X to return to television screens. The reformation of DX was teased at WrestleMania 22, and over the next few weeks, Shawn and Triple H's paths would cross as they battled The Spirit Squad and The McMahons. DX reformed soon after, and fans quickly realized that this was not the same DX we remembered from the 90s.

People look back on 2006 DX as if it was the worst thing. But honestly? As a kid I couldn't get enough of this run and as an adult I think this is probably my favorite part of both their careers. This was two legends having the time of their lives, Goofing around and laughing at themselves and everyone else. I really can't bring myself to hate it.
Same. I was 5-7 when the first DX happened so I didn't remember much other than they were a group together. 2006 DX is why I love Triple H & Shawn.

DX will Never be the worst thing for me! If you don't like DX you was not birthed in the right years then. DX was my forever f*ckn' Life in the Mid 2000s. I was alive back in early 90s, tht's the yrs I missed, but it makes sense as to why I missed it.
I liked the dx reunion in 2016 but I am older now and looking back I believe it was very silly and too immature. It felt like 2 older men trying to recapture their youth but that is my opinion. If anyone liked this reunion that is ok.

2006 DX was actually great, and breathed some life into RAW which had been suffering for a long time. The episode where Vince's limo wheels get jacked was the best RAW all year long.

They can't do their original gimmick because WWE was transitioning to PG era that time... Their 90's antics will definitely be scrapped because of the restrictions, so they toned down their gimmick according to PG standards but still with a DX signature element
No 2006 was ok at best. Their rivals was the Spirit Squad that says it all right there.
My favorite moment of this era of DX was when they're backstage and Shawn gets pissed. Walked to some random guy, said “Hey buddy what’s your name?”
Guy said: “Stan”
Shawn: “Stan. (Sweatchin Music) You see! I just kicked Stan!!”
That and little people’s court. I was an Attitude Fanboy so I wasn’t too into WWE at this time, but I remember I came back strictly for DX. And while it was cheesier, it was still great.
And I know a lot of us old school fans disliked the final DX, and alot of it seem to hate Hornswaggle, but hating on that dumbass court skit just can’t be done.

While I was glad with the '06 return, I have to say that the '97 & early '98 DX, especially HBK, was pure venom - simply amazing.
DX was the reason I wacthed wrestling.
We need more people today willing to say, "Suck it!".
It was really good to see Triple H and Shawn Michaels back together in 2006 after many years of feuding and spilling bucket loads of blood. It was a lot of fun to see the original duo raising hell again on Raw and making Mr. Mcmahon's life miserable. Even though DX wasn't the same as it was back in 1997 and It did get a bit repetitive at times, their program with Rated RKO in October 06-Jan 07 made up for it and ended up being the best feud they ever had since getting back together.
I disagree with most people saying the 2006 reunion was actually good, borderline great, they had some great matches and good feuds, miles better than the 2009 reunion which was forced

Same. Like Michaels I'm surprised people didn't understand the point of what it was doing. It wasn't meant to recapture something that could never be replicated (would've been lame to do so), they were old men trying to recapture their youth - that was the joke. The aging rockstar analogy in the video was perfect, they were Atticus Fetch type characters.

Don't you think the Merch Selling aspect was also them poking fun at their former selves? How they "sold out to 'the man'"? I know Shawn (and I'm sure HHH as well) has gone on about that in the past.

Went to Vengeance 2006 and was able to watch the true DX reunion live, one of the few memories I have with my dad. Great show!
I love how even though they were older and more mature they still managed to leave me crackin up at every segment they were in
The sledge hammer to Shanee was great and a little detail that Shawn and HHH were beginning to be on the same side. Before HHH steps back to take a run at HBK who was being held by Shane, he grabs Shawn and says... "look up.. cause I want you to see this coming!" They intentionally made that dialogue very clear on TV.
HBK tagging with "God " Is one of the stupidest things ever done in wresting .

I wasn't around for their original run so this was my first exposure to DX and I loved it. I always loved Shawn, but I grew up during Triple H's reign of terror and had no idea he could be this fun to watch outside of the ring. This run made DX my all time favourite faction.
I agree with a lot of subscribers on this channel when I say: This is the best pro-wrestling based documentary channel on TH-cam.

Recent history shows that WWE doesn't execute the subtle art of foreshadowing too well, which is why they deliberately tease the audience while spoiling the element of surprise nowadays. In my opinion, the most shocking impactful returns, reunions and heel turns were completely unexpected with ZERO hype or build up.
This reunion was my first exposure to DX since a grew up with the Ruthless Aggression era. Me and my cousin loved it, we were always doing the cross chops and yelling out "suck it" much to my parents' amusement/displeasure lol

06 DX was never going to live up to the 90s, I actually did get the whole “aging rockstar” thing. Yeah a lot of it was pretty silly, but they had just as many good moments in this time period
Im 38..all i ask is you keep the intro for a bit. Love it. Takes me back to old wwf ppvs. I like most my age stopped watching in 2001 when wcw and ecw folded. But in the last month.. Your channel has logged me back in to EVERYthing ive missed the last 18 years. Amazing job.

I remember Eric Bischoff said in an interview the reason they had that run was it was heading towards a dx VS nwo match at that years survivor series. Bischoff even said that dx was a copy of the nwo or something like that during a promo earlier at the start of their return.

Same this was also my intro to DX since back in 1998 we only had WCW, WWE was only broadcast in my country around 2001.
I absolutely adored DX because I never saw their more edgy 1997 version. The night HHH saved HBK from the spirit squad is also the night he became my all time favourite wrestler
Go watch some 1997 DX and you might think Shawn Michaels was.
He really took Triple H to the top back then in Triple H's "rookie" years.
I understand if you're not familiar with these 1997 times then I can see why you'd think Hunter was the main member, his psyche is much larger than Shawn Michaels nowdays, he is the multiple World title holder but if you rewind the clock back to 1997, Triple H was no more than the rookie riding Shawn Michaels co-tail, definitely going places which shows more than ever for Triple H today but he once was seen as the student while Shawn was his teacher.

This seemed like a super watered down version compared to 1997
You gotta think about it this way, Shawn was extremely frustrated back when they first formed because of everything going on both personally and professionally, so he was being a literal degenerate, here he found peace with everything and he's playing ball with everyone involved.

I've come to realize over time that the attitude era was lighting in a bottle. a wonce in a lifetime era. and I was lucky enough to have seen it all live back in the Glory days of wrestling.
I think at their ages in 2006, they just about got away with a nostalgia run. Now it's just embarrassing when they come out every six months...

It's so cool to think back to the days of Triple H in WCW and definitely remember noticing him but have no idea that he would transfer over into the WWE like he did. He definitely wasn't someone I thought would be huge but the same could be said for Steve Austin.

I feel like I might be a rare wrestling fan because I was 9-13 through their first run and 17 during their second run. For me I just enjoyed seeing wrestlers I liked being together. Same thing every time APA got together I just love seeing my guys together no matter the era.
I hope Chyna knows she got in the HOF, and she's ok with it being D-X. I miss her.

@@lupeguillen5203 Yeah, she wasn't a great wrestler, but she made such an impression on me, and she wrestled men. I think she was trying to heal from her relationship with her dad by being tough. Then she was desperate for money and trying to stay in the spotlight. She was a just human, and flawed, but I admire her for trying to win at life. Does that make sense?
And I think her muscles looked just right, absolutely beautiful and so rare for a wonan to look good that way.
(I don't want to watch her porn though, I mean, ew, even if X-Pac is hot, just no thanx).

I actually enjoyed this reunion and Vince and Shane made it happen plus everything after impersonating Vince and Shane the s**** falling on top of them the DX sign on the building and Vince's jet the wheels Poppin off the limo even the party they had was great so whoever was hating on DX in 2006 are stupid you got to change and go with the times sometimes and try to make it better then it was before

DX reunion and making ECW a third brand was the beginning of the end for me. When Angle left, RVD got fired and then finally the Benoit tragedy happened it was game over. WWE never recovered in my opinion. I stuck around until they went full PG then decided I couldn't watch anymore.

I didn’t watch wrestling during that time. I loved the first iteration of dx. I watched clips of the 2006 version and it didn’t do anything for me. I am glad that they didn’t attempt to bring back the old dx

Good reunion, I understood the concept that they were more on grown men status in 2006 versus 1997. I was about 21-22 years old, so I completely understood as I was about 12-13 years old in 1997. So it made more sense, they would do less juvenile stuff in 2006.

we all love the old dx but man this run was a fun one that kept me watching even though they weren't heels....i loved the build up before they got back together i can remember the pop when they did the x crotch in the pay per view my brother, cousins and I went nuts when we saw the foreshadowing of it all.
I totally forgot the Spirit Squad was a thing, lmao. I stopped watching wrestling a looooooong time ago, but I've been having a blast watching this channel's stuff. It's a nice throwback.
I personally like this DX and one in 2009 but I can see where a lot criticism comes from personally I was glad that in 2009 Shawn and Triple H won the Tag Team Championship together felt like a long time coming

I mean the HBK & God vs the McMahons was just a joke that all HBK needed to beat both mcmahons at the same time was God. It's a handicap match with a joke written in. It was so great. And yes Shane was awesome in that, never thought about it.

The reunion was fun. It was better than most things during this era (with the exception of the "Mr. McMahon's BASTARRRRD son" storyline), and way better than anything within the last 10 yrs.

‘06 DX was my mom’s and my sister’s reintroduction into WWE. So it was nice to be able to watch RAW and SmackDown with my family again. So good.

In the Raw after Wrestlmania McMahon interrupted HBK in the ring and he said “I have two words for you Shawn.” Then HBK said “Whoa whoa whoa you have 2 words for me? Well HBK and Chicago has 2 words for ya!” And the crowd collectively said “Suck it!” And there was a loud “DX!” Chant in the arena

iam an old school wrestling fan and i still loved DX 2006.
It was never gunna be the same as 97-98 but that was the whole point. I Understood and accepted it for what it was and enjoyed it.
This Dx was more about having Fun :)
