That's awesome! That is me running those engines, I was one if the last few who were trained on the 70 tonners at the M&ET. Started in Dec 07. They are all gone but one now and it has been restored and put away in our yard in its own building. Those were a lot of fun to run. Now computers do all the thinking for us. I breath a lot less dielsel smoke now though haha and the air conditioning is a big plus to lol those 70's were super hit in the valley sun!
Thank you for sharing. I had never seen a GE 70 tonner in action. The only one I ever saw was either a Bachman or Tyco HO scale toy in the 80s (GI Joe themed toy train set). Also never knew this railroad existed. Locos looked to be in pretty good condition for being as old as they were -- good paint, not rusted out. Somebody cared for those things for a good long time.
Pretty sure these have been gone for a few years now,in favor of larger Gen-Set Switchers. Pity, the 70 tonner's,they will be missed. Thank you for capturing these locomotives on video .
we had them in Chile also, at least 10 of them in the late 90's they used it in the main line for passenger service lol (3rd world) even in that condition they never failed but it was kinda hilarious to use switchers for long trips
According to wikipedia they only had between 500 to 660 hp. I am hoping to find a TH-cam video that talks about switchers. Just gave my daughter a Lionel Alco S-2 for Christmas. Love to watch train videos but I am really interested in one that explain about the equipment/what is going on.

Wish y'all could've given us some down here at Stewartstown Railroad. They would be great to use with the 44 ton

Greetings from the Santa Maria Valley Railroad and our GE 70 tonners #70 and 80, as well as #1801, an EMD GP9, and the ghost of our U6B.
That's true. This video was posted in 2009!
