    Classic railroading, nice variety. Love it!

      Stockton used to be a hotbed of older "valley" power and locals. I wish I had made it up there more often with my camera. I think we have a similar approach to capturing these vanishing sights.

      I think so too. Cincinnati where I grew was a place to catch a lot of the older power and paint schemes before the Mega mergers took hold. I wish I would could have made it back there more often. Love your videos slowly watch a few here and there. Great stuff!

    Wish I was there during this era. I would have loved to watch the big three railroads and shorelines back in their hay-day. Today, that part of Stockton is basically a ghost town as homeless shacks inhabit the empty lots where warehouses once stood.

    what are those 6 axle U boats?

    • @vidwilzvids9587
      @vidwilzvids9587  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On the ATSF, the u-boats were numbered in the 8700 series; on the UP they were numbered in the 2800 and 2900's

    Is that an SP GP40X in Kodachrome at 4:50? I didn't know that such a thing ever existed.

    • @vidwilzvids9587
      @vidwilzvids9587  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That was a typical SP SD45 W/Flexicoil C trucks.

    Nice video. The S3 stopping at a gate protected crossing -- is that just to piss people off?

    • @vidwilzvids9587
      @vidwilzvids9587  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, that was because of an FRA rule that required a train to Stop and Proceed when it was reported, by anyone, that a crossing gate wasn't working properly. In my entire career I never saw a rule or procedure that said "Delay motorists every chance you get". Thanks for the comment.

      @@vidwilzvids9587 Yep. I was around in soCal during that time. I got to see them up close and personal. I really wish the SPSF merger had gone through, instead of BNSF 10 years later.

    Isn't the UP line from an Ex-WP line?

    • @vidwilzvids9587
      @vidwilzvids9587  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yep. The UP freights that you see crossing the ATSF just east of the tower are on the former WP mainline coming out of the former WP yard. The mainline is gone and the yard now connects to the former SP mainline just south of the tower (now gone). It's all UP & BNSF now.

    • @sergiovalencia9074

      vidwilzvids the WP mainline is gone between the ex WP yard and the El Pinal crossing south of Alpine Ave.

    10:05 Back in 1988, it was still legal to strangle a goose to warn motorists that a train is approaching a grade crossing.
