I think the best tip was "Be Nice". That can't be expressed enough. I've had them replace expensive tools without forcing me to go through the companies warranty. Being nice will get you pretty far in a lot of stores. Thank you for pushing that.

I bought online a Ryobi battery and charger kit for$159 with a choice of a free tool, I chose the Ryobi high impact wrench. It would be sent to my Home Depot. Only the battery and charger were sent. There was a glitch in the system. Got a refund, ended up buying a Milwaukee impact sockets, headed out, stopped by the Milwaukee tent by the exit, rep asked me if he could take a picture of me with my purchase. I said, "Sure, he asked if I was looking for anything else. I told him about the Ryobi battery and charger with a free high impact wrench situation. The store manager happened to be there and said that she could make that happen. It took a while, but I got it. So happy! What a deal, $159 for the battery and charger and a $219 impact wrench for free. I love my Home Depot!

I had a great customer service experience at HD, bought a power hand planer for a project, when I got it home discovered it was a used return that had been restocked. They couldn't find another one in the area, so they discounted 20% and threw in a pack of replacement blades. HD staff is the bomb!

The truck rental is a great trick. It is actually cheaper than a U-haul. I have purchased a washer and dryer from Lowes, gone to Home Depot and rented a truck, then back to Lowes for pick up, home to drop off the new ones, back to Lowes to dispose of the old ones, and finally back to Home Depot to drop the truck back off.

I have worked at home depot for over 20 years. most rental centers only rent 1 model of each tool and they are usually Makita or Hilti which isn't sold in the regular in store offerings. If you aren't sure about a big tool, buy it, use it and return it if you don't like it. There is no policy against returning a tool that you just don't like. ESPECIALLY if it's expensive. They want you to be happy with your purchase. Be sure to do it within 30 days.

@@gtjman1 this is true. I didn't work for Home Depot for 20 years. But I did work there for 2 years. And I worked in pretty much every department. (Since I knew what I was doing. They put me where they needed me.) For the longest time I worked on the freight Team unloading trucks, stocking the shelves, operating equipment. Anyhow Jordan is correct, the rental center sells tools. However they usually don't take tool returns. Unless it doesn't work or something along those lines. At least at the store I worked in, in southern IN they didn't.

My Bride and I ordered a 60 inch double vanity from HD and the shipper loaded it on a small pallet, upside down, which shattered the cultured marble top. We bought it on sale and the sale was off but the young lady at the service desk jumped on the phone and, not only got another coming but the lady she talked to gave us a discounted price, even lower than what it was on sale for.

I did what you suggested regarding renting a Home Depot truck to haul my purchase of wood home. First I asked about delivery because I didn't have a truck and they wanted a quite a bit. So I rented a Home Depot truck and brought home myself and returned the rental inside of 75 minutes. Saved myself quite a bit of $$. Just a note, valid license and a copy of your car insurance is necessary for truck rentals.

Great video. We completely remodeled our home about 4 years ago and about 80% of all we bought was at Home Depot because of their great service and selection. This included every door inside and out we bought at Home Depot. They are always my first choice. Recently bought a new Magic Chef Mini Fridge from Home Depot for my office that sits under my desk. When got it to the office and unboxed had a small dent in top. Called the store and told them I could bring it back but really didn’t want to load back up but didn’t want to pay full price for one with a dent. They gave me 15 % off no questions asked except they asked if it worked. It is a very small dent and no one sees it because under my desk.

This past Thursday I purchased a chamberlain opener for a customer from Home Depot and installed it right away. Once installed the opener didn’t program the limits. So I called chamberlain to troubleshoot. Well it turns out that the manufacturer date on the box and on the unit we’re off by a year which means someone carefully swapped out head units and put the box back together.
I went back to Home Depot and purchased another opener for my customer and swapped the max head out and put it in the box. I took that opener back and told Home Depot what happened and asked to give me a better opener than the one I purchased for the extra time spent going back and fourth.
The cashier was very nice and told me to go get the one I wanted and come back. So I got the opener that was only about $45 more than the one I originally purchased but it was worth it knowing that Home Depot’s employees have integrity and is doing right by their customers.

Matt, you're absolutely right about HoPo's customer service. I recently had a refrigerator delivered and it showed up with some superficial damage on one side. Not a huge deal since this was a garage fridge, but I noted it in the delivery survey they sent. A rep called me in less than 24 hours, was super nice and sent me a $200 gift card.

    Thank you for these tips!
I have SCORED on paint in the Oops mis-tint section! Also good to know that it’s not ALWAYS tinted items that end up there. I think they put returns there if they think it’s been used. I scored a gallon of specialty paint in high gloss white for $7. It was regularly $52/gallon because it was some ultra fancy cabinet paint or something. I’ve also gotten stains and wood waterproofing products from that section at STEEP discounts. The other day I was there and they had 4-5 gallons of a specialty paint for metal. I believe they had it for $12/gallon and the reg price was seventy something dollars 😳😳. It was a white base that was tint-able. I didn’t have a need for it so I left it for someone else to find and score 😊
A few years ago when everyone was doing grey but nobody realized there are like 150 different grey tones, I was CONSTANTLY finding grey mis tint for cheap. I bought several different gallons of “grey”, mixed them up, and using a handful of color shot paints in primary colors, I color corrected the collection of reject grey and made it into my preferred grey. I did the ENTIRE interior of our 2400 sq ft rambler for less than $100 in paint!

as a old time plumber im running a handymad biz now. so new stuff to learn . Great paint dont always cover great so you can end up burning $ on the extra paint...and the first cover coat sucks up the paint fast a, soo if you are covering ( even slightly) dark paint and they got light paint on sale snap it up ... in fact stock it up . then you can final coat ( one time ) w the correct tint .

This coming from a HD ex employee, not that long ago. People don't know that home depot is different from just about all others. The head is the most family type. your local maybe tough, but the headquarters are thoughtful. As for the discounts all you need is a supervisor from any department. A lot easier to get. They can also offer discounts for damaged goods. They own not contracted, but own most of the company products they sale. They even own one of the largest insurance companies. As for the credit card. they will approve most people, a good way to start building your credit. Also I was a supervisor lol! Loved working there, but health issues got in the way!

Home Depot also has home improvement credit terms, like 12 mos. no interest, that can be extended - if you ask the sales associate to request it. For example, we purchased a washer & dryer + installation. We had a 12 mos no-interest offer. Upon request, the associate was able to extend it to 24 mos no-interest. It was a win-win!

We have had the HD credit card for several years now. Yes, the interest rate is atrocious, as are most store cards. But we often get coupons that are either a dollar amount or percentage off a purchase, or interest-deferred financing on large purchases, if you use your HD card. I recently made a large purchase & got 24-months interest-deferred financing. The key, of course, is to pay it off within that time. I either break the amount down into even monthly payments (in this case, the total cost divided by 24) & pay that each month, or pay the minimum payment amount that avoids interest charges (they will tell you that on your credit card account website) & sock away the difference into a savings account. If you have a no-fee savings account, you can earn at least some interest on that money over that time period. Yes, that interest is taxable income, but I don't find it to be that much. If you mind that, just make the equal monthly payments and don't save any extra. For whatever reason, I always get satisfaction seeing how much accumulated interest I'm not paying! Granted, it does require discipline to pay it off on time, but I have no problem with that. :) But I agree - if you're not going to make/finance large purchases that you pay off before the interest kicks in, don't get the card. Anyway, thanks for the tips. Hope you have an awesome day! :)

@@731Woodworks I agree with Andrea. I use the credit card for big purchases only. The frequent 10% off coupons apply even to sale prices. Usually to get that 10% off I have to put the purchase on the card. But then I pay off the card next month. On occasion I have used the 24 months no interest option but normally the 10% off is a better deal for me. You also have a full year to return items IF they were purchased on the card. And they do not require a receipt. Just the card number. (Which they can look up from your phone number if necessary). I do agree also that the interest rate is really bad, except for the 6/12/24 month same-as-cash option. The 10% discount applies to the entire purchase, not just one item.

I’ve worked at HD in hardware for 3 years and now returns (service) for the past year. Stores don’t have to match their own website prices. Our store does not. I especially won’t if you’re going to be rude, roll your eyes, tell me you spend a $billion every month, lose your temper, and so forth.
Not all stores repair tools. Nor do all stores rent tools.
Shipping times are estimates. Not written in stone.
PayPal has better deals for paying over time than the HD credit card. Any purchase $100 or more.
If you want a discount on a tool, ask the hardware associates. The margins are higher on the associated items like drill bits, saw blades, etc. You’re more likely to save on those items.
If a tool is leaving the store and is inactive you can score big on the display tool provided all the others of that tool have been sold. In other words, if that’s the very last tool. Otherwise displays are never sold. You’ll need a store manager for that one.

Get the app. Use it to find out if the item is in stock at the store or neighboring store. If it is in stock, it tells you the aisle and bay where the item is located. Also gives you ship-to-store (free) option for items not in stock. One time I was in the store and item was in stock, but on a high shelf, with no staff in sight (short-staffed as is the case all around). After waiting 10 minutes, I opened the app, ordered the item from that very store, and came back the next morning to pick it up from the customer service counter.

There is one thing, some might find handy to know. And I'm not sure (can't remember at least.) if you've mentioned this in another Home Depot video or not. But Home Depot offers, pro pricing programs for pro's. The more you buy the more you save. And with over 4000+ products that qualify, you can save money. And it's free to get set up as a pro. I mean if you buying a couple things here and there. It may not be worth the time. But if you building a deck, or a pergola. Something fair sized signing up could save you quite a bit. And that's what the pro thing at HD is all about. Saving time, saving money. They have rewards for pros, parking spots for pros, purchase tracking. And they also have "Pro special buy of the week." Which can some weeks save you 20% per sq ft on tile. Anyhow there's a whole lot. You can simply walk up to the pro counter and talk to them. Let them know what you're working on, and ask. For example, "Hello, I'm Brent, how are you? Well my wife and I decided to do some work around our home. So this weekend, I'm adding a walk-in closet to our master bedroom. So with all that said, If I sign up as a pro, could I save money on this closet addition by doing so?" It never hurts to ask. That's all I'm saying. And as Matt says, be polite. let them know what your building, working on, and see what they suggest. Anyhow thanks for reading. Sorry about the novel. Good day, and God bless! Much love.

My dad got a cabinet set like that one from HD. Shortly after he got it, it went on sale for significantly less. He got the difference back, all he had to do was ask. (since he ordered it online he had to call, they couldn't do it at the store)
The phone apps are also handy for finding things in the store. Aisle and section. Used it at Lowes the other day, found something that was never shelved/displayed but was instead in a box high up someone had to get for me. No chance I would've found it otherwise.

Here's a tip for ya - The HD credit card. if you go in store and spend more than 1k. you can ask if they can bump you to 12mo financing. Spend ~1500 or more you might be able to get away with 18mo. 2k or more can get you 24mo EASY. all they have to do is get manager approval and call in. And remember. You attract more flies with honey than you do with vinegar. Many will be more willing and even excited to help if you're nice! If you're a crab you will not get what you want, at least not easily.

Some Home Depot will take the display items because of time people have handled the tool or taken parts off so they replace it with a new one just to make everything look nice but there's nothing wrong with the tool. You can get these tools at big discounts you just need to ask. Last year I picked up the husky double stack black toolbox that goes for around $1200 dollars and paid $200 dollars for it. I didn't even make it to my truck before someone asked what I was going to sell or keep it. I sold it made $100 bucks yes could have made more but most people would have done the same thing if you know what the story was. When people lose almost everything just because you score a win win doesn't mean you shouldn't help out someone else. But basically it pays to ask the manager of each department if they're getting rid of any display because I've paid $2 and $5 for Ryobi drill bits and tips. Good for throw away even if you use it once and I'll take a picture of anything right now to show you if you don't believe me.

In my area, as a general rule Home Depot stores will not price match the website pricing. They state it is because they are trying to drive sales online for certain items. This is true even if you try to get a manager involved.

Just order it on the website for pickup at your local store. If it's in stock, you only wait a few hours and you can pick up the one you would have bought there anyway at the price that's on the website.

Tip for veterans home depot now gives a 10% discount to retired, active, disabled veterans on on line sales. You just have to resister with home depot and then you can get it when buying on line . They did not used to give the vets discount online but they do now. Lowes also offers discount for all vets of 10%. . You have to ask to get this discount at home depot to get the discount they won't give it unless you ask.

Another point on the online vs. in-store price. If the online price is cheaper, you can pull out your phone and order it online for in-store pick-up, wait for them to pick it for you and pay for it right there. I have done that myself before.

Great info as always, thanks! I actually discovered the tool rental today when I went online to rent a truck for this weekend. So I'm just curious...,has anyone ever actually used that service outside of something impromptu like you were there buying something at the store that you needed to take home and a truck was available because I ren have tried repeatedly to rent the truck and its always @all booked up"...fair enough....so today it wasn't last minute but we need it for 75 minutes Saturday and everyone we called said toy couldn't reserve any of them. Now that makes sense, it's for customers who make a purchase but I have to say the website leads me to believe it's a quick rental when you need it and some of the places pointed us back to the site until finally someone said, "n o. You have to just come by and get lucky". Honestly I'm still confused. It's not like there's just one truck. Im fine with the van but it feels like they kind is advertise it so im wondering if anyone has ever been successful with that. This was way too long but I'm so tired and I can't see worth a damn so apologies on that (no I wouldn't be driving. Lol).

We used the card to buy $ 2,000 dollars worth of gift cards. That way we didn't have to plan out ever thing we might need and try to store it. And financed it all for 2 years interest free.

I've never seen or heard of anyone getting more than $500 as an initial credit card limit from Home Despot. I know when I bought my Husky tool workbench which was $425, the $500 wasn't enough to cover tax AND shipping by a whole $19 even after their $50 off was applied, and when I called and asked for a mere $20 limit increase...
Home Despot literally told me NO! $20 to cover the tax & shipping difference. So guess how much I shop at Home Despot now....

I ordered metal roofing in 12 ft and 14 ft lengths and $480 lumber. It was a 30 day back order. When I came to pick up order - they rolled out a pallet having 2 stacks of metal roofing - one of pieces 12 inch length the other 14 inch. The store manager looked at the order copy I brought and said "Oops!" - had to reorder. I said at least I could pick up the lumber...he said it was "released." (Somebody else got it!)
Home Depot lost $4K that day!

I've been a pro member for probably 6 or 7 years now and also have a HD credit card. I regularly get coupons for 10% off or 24 months no interest. However, for the past year or so they have been making it harder and harder to use those discounts. They keep raising the minimum purchase limit, coupons can't be combined with anything else, etc. It's really frustrating. The other thing I have noticed is they always send me a 10% coupon *right after* I make a large purchase. I'm not sure what the threshold is but it seems to be around a couple hundred $$. I'm really fed up with HD and Lowes. I wish there was somewhere else to shop. But alas, I am pretty much stuck with these 2 choices. Bonus tip. Don't buy Ridgid tools anywhere except HD if you want the lifetime warranty. They will only honor if purchased at a HD.

We had a horrible experience with HD. We bought a 35 year, transferable warranty for a new roof. Paid an extra 10k for it. Well first the company they contracted out was piss poor. Tried charging us for extra lumber even though I saw with my eyes that they loaded the extra lumber into their truck at the end. Then the roof leaks. We had 7 different people come out to "fix" it. During all this HD decided they were losing money on these warranties and sells to someone else - who doesn't validate the warranty. They finally found someone to fix the leak but not the damaged sheet rock inside. This went on for 3 years. Oh and no 35 year transferable warranty, just a 20 year one. All that extra money for nothing...
    We don't shop there anymore.
I will mention, we were speaking with some higher up at HD who really tried to help us, until they sold out.

Is this a new HD policy? About a year ago I went to my local HD to buy a Dewalt impact driver, which had an online price of $99. When I scanned it at the self checkout, the price was 149.00. I showed the online price to the cashier, and he over rode the store price, and I got it for $99. Maybe Home Depot's policy has changed since then?

    • @kimshockwave4883
      @kimshockwave4883 ปีที่แล้ว

@@edrupp2318 no it's not a new policy. The cashier probably figured it was easier to just give you the online price instead of arguing with you about it. There are a lot of employees that do not follow company policies.
