I bought some really large (24x48) floor tile that was displayed as a new item for $5.99/sq ft. Two months later it had been reduced to - wait for it - $0.59/sq ft. Yes, 90% off. Apparently HD decided that it wasn't generating enough sales and they wanted it gone. I asked if I could get a price match on the tile already purchased, and they agreed! Best deal I ever got there. Point being: watch for price reductions on stuff you recently bought.
Used to work at Home Depot. We had ripped bags of mulch and rocks in garden and concrete mix inside. Also, any normal employee has up to $50 they can mark off every shift with putting the customer first. So for instance let's say you wanted to buy 15 feet of Romax cable but they were all out of that size you could get a 25 foot Roll for the same price as 15 feet and just ask them to mark it down and they almost always will without even having to talk to a manager. Department heads could write off $100, ASM/GM for $200 or more. This may have changed as this was more than a decade ago but rather than driving to a second Home Depot for a product, see if you can get a bigger/better one for the same price as the smaller/cheaper one first
Really I couldn’t even get them to use my pro credit rewards on Christmas decorations. They said they were already half off too bad. And then they returned the plumbing item which was a hose for a refrigerator for $25 to an account that no longer exist. I tried to explain this, but they said take it up with the 800 number. It used to be my favorite toy store but you know their customer service is really gone downhill.

Guaranteed they'll coming running out of the woodwork, fearing that a lawsuit is about to happen, lecturing you about how dangerous it is. One way or the other, objective accomplished.

Another tip: contractor type orders (will calls) are available to any customer. If you want to get a sale price but can't take the item(s) home the same day (maybe you don't have time or need to wait for a friend to be available to help you drive it home), or if you just want someone else to pick then item(s) from the shelf for you (not advised for lumber though if you want to ensure straight boards), then place an order with the pro desk or customer service, pay for it, and you can pick up the items another day.
I always frequented the cull lumber cart at my HD but it disappeared a year or so ago. I just so happened to be there when an employee was cutting some of it into smaller pieces and asked about it. He said they no longer sold it but destroyed it. I asked if I could buy some and he got a manager who confirmed that it was going in the trash but let me have some free. Haven’t seen any since, but glad to hear that other stores still do it. Thanks for your great vids!
I am working at a home depot in Canada, and I can tell you things that happen. Monthly write offs, if the item has not sold during the markdown period, then we just write it off and dumpster. I usually will take the time out of the packaging before tossing it, making sure that the pieces are all separated, sometimes the items are sealed and brand new, some are expensive. Online orders returned, meaning the item does not sell in the store but must be ordered online. Sometimes the customer returns it for whatever reason, still new, it is now marked down at various percentage off depending on the item. I have seen regular $1000.00 and we sell it off at 50% off.
Look at the sku numbers on the tools on display. Look at the same tool in the overhead bin, don’t know if it is still done but to get it out of inventory it mat be sold for as little as $0.01. I have purchased a couple of framing nail guns in the past for $0.01.
I bought a floor display dyson vacuum a while back. They had it nearly half off for being a display model and I was able to stack a military discount on top of it. Always check to see what they have for display models on sale.
I rented a small compressor to air up a small inflatable pool, and returned it after an hour and a half, and the employee cancelled my charge! She said it was FREE because I didn’t have it long.
I was a MET associate for years and you would not believe how many good items get thrown into the dumpster daily. After those marked down items are not sold, dumpster time. Dented or damaged appliances etc, dumpster. Garden plants are recycled out weekly, dumpster. When new items come in to replace older model items, dumpster. I recall seeing a load of new rakes come in one spring and the only difference to the old rakes they were replacing was the color of the handle, dumpster.

As to the tool rental maintenance, I rented a small electric chainsaw from HD and was a little shocked to learn that for liability reasons they replace the chain after each rental. At least that's what they said. And yes, no matter what I'm in for, I will always go by the clearance sections. But I do have to say that at one local HD, not everything on the clearance shelf is at a clearance price so look carefully.
You can use a cut calculator to create a diagram and get the most out of the wood. If you print it out you can just hand it to the guy to make the cuts. Great for building cabinets.
That's because this particular HD has a Lowes directly across the street...It's super easy to be an ORANGE and BLUE shopper there. In fact, it's actually much more convenient to enter and leave the Lowes than HD...It's almost like the local planners gave Lowes preferential treatment with the road designs...Which is really not surprising considering the city...
All the depots near me got rid of their cull bin. I got several 4' lengths of trex decking for like a dollar once. Great for going underneath outdoor projects!
I was at Home Depot in Klamath, Oregon, waiting for some one. As I stood there I watched someone pulling all the nice plants off the shelves and putting them into a large shopping cart. These were not the cheap plants, these all had a price tag of $29.95 or more. I asked what she was doing. She told me when they get a new shipment in all the current stock was written off as a loss and thrown away. I suggested they would make a beautiful gift for people in nursing homes, or they could be donated to the local garden club as a fund raiser. I was then told if I wanted them, after the store was closed I could get them out of the dumpster behind the store. I would have if I did not live about 50 miles away. Seems like such a sad waste.
I've always wanted to buy a used hd rental truck. The superduty with the metal flatbed. Do they go to auction. Whereabouts would I need to look for those?
Regarding having Home Depot cutting your wood: Always have a tape measure with you and check each and every piece for size. I have had two occasions where the dimensions were off up to 1/2" and required re-cutting.
They usually have a sign that states the cuts are not "finish" cuts. If you give them exact measurements, and they cut exactly to those dimensions, you got lucky, so don't assume that will be the case. Edit: My local HD doesn't even offer cutting anymore,
Home Depot does not do precision cuts. They cut the lumber so that it can fit in your vehicle so that you can get it home to cut it precisely how you want it. Remember you are on American, not on AmeriKant
Garden center at one of our local HDs has pallets of open/torn bag garden products (soils/sand/stone/mulch) that are spray painted with purple at a deep discount. It's an all-or-nothing deal so you have to buy the whole pallet.
I used to work for HD tool rental. This is a high profit dept. So if you have any issues with your rental, as long as we believe you, we will make it right. Tool didn't act right, and you had to make a special trip back? We'll give you a new tool and reduce the rent by half. But don't lie to us. We are very good BS detectors.
One bit of caution with HD (and probably Lowes as well) is if you need something loaded with a forklift - expect to wait, sometimes for quite a while. They're fairly unorganized in this respect and I think only one time out of ten was "the guy" available, not at lunch, not on break, not loading someone else, isn't out sick, hadn't misplaced the keys, etc, etc. Just be patient.
Used to be an order picker for home depot. They usually have a couple people trained on reach truck (inside forklift) from different departments and might have the lumber and seaonal person trained on the sit down forklift, but otherwise the picker is the primary equipment operator on duty (trained on all material handling equipment). I had some nights I would have 4 or 5 associates asking me at once to help a customer so I had to just go in order (all while still trying to pick my orders for the night). If you need something pulled down from the shelves, do the workers a favor and try to see if it is on a pallet nearby somewhere. More people tend to have forklift training than order picker training (to pull an individual box off the shelf from up high that is to heavy to carry).
Anything with a sale price on it you can usually get a discount on top of the listed price. They are trying to get rid of those as fast as they can. Ask an associate if its alot of stuff ask for a manager and you can haggle an even better deal.
3:07 I don't know if there's a new policy or my store and it makes sense I guess that they won't cut pressure treated wood cuz it has chemicals that release in the air when cut I got to try the other store see if they will let me cut it
From the condition of a lot of their lumber they have in stock, It needs to be reduced as soon as it enters the building! I'm not a perfectionist but have spent a lot of extra time sorting through all the crap lumber they have on the shelves!
Culled lumber doesn't exist in my area any more. When I asked managers about it, they said it was a mandate sent down from corporate that all culled lumber must go into the compactor and cannot be given away. I was given two different reasons - one was that people would use a receipt for purchased lumber to return the culled lumber for a refund, and the second was that everything thrown in the compactor was a tax write off as a business loss.
What a waste of resources. Just think if an sharp entrepreneur cut a deal with these big box stores like Crazy Hot Deals did with Amazon for their cull lumber. 🤔
Best Dad tip i can give is F Home depot and Lowes. Buy locally and from supply houses! Home depot is charging almost $20 for ONE steel stud! I buy them locally by the bundle for 1/2 that price and sit in my truck as they load them up for me
In addition to the lowest price guarantee, I'm pretty sure that HD will still beat a price by 10%. That's huge on a big ticket item. A few years ago, I bought a Cub Cadet rider. 1,599 at HD. 1,499 sale at Tractor Supply. Got the mower at HD for 1,350.
is it still running?, I bought two NEW cub cadet mowers at around $1,700. each both blew the headgasket within 4 mow's of my yard....when I called for warranty work they repeatedly hung up on me....I might understand that if I was rude but I wasnt and they still hung up on me. I had other issues like parts completely falling off the mower on the first mow etc etc I will NEVER EVER buy another Cub Cadet. I went with a Bad Boy and have been very happy with it
@@psu7276 sounds like you won the mower lottery lol When i took the last one in to get fixed there were 15 brand new cubs just like mine sitting in the service yard waiting on repair. That was the point I threw up hands and said no more. I suggest you put a ball valve on your fuel line and cut off fuel to your carb when not in use. One of the things that happened to me is the fuel (even with Stabil) clogged the carb needle seats and allowed fuel to fill the entire engine and push all the oil out past the gaskets. I cranked up the mower and it was slinging oil everywhere ( that was the first one before the head gasket blew on around the third mow. also keep an eye on your spindles and belt retainers. You can take the spindles apart and add (functional) zerk fittings to grease them and they will last longer and stay put together. Hope you continue to have good luck man.
I’ve been going to two different Home Depot’s for over 30 years, and have never seen a clearance rack in either store. And I can tell you where everything is in each store.
I can tell you from being a home Depot employee years ago any employee even new hires can give up to a 50 $ discount to anyone for any object. Within reason.
They can be sneaky. I went in for a 10' piece of 2" PVC pipe. There were none on the rack. But close by they had pre-cut PVC lengths in 5' sections. The pre-cuts were 90% (each) of the price of the full size ones.
You forgot one which is... "Dont be a douche." I had a customer come in and she was very abbusive because she could not get a custom door designed and installed in less than a week. As if her poor planning was my fault. She bought a really nice double door which ended up being about 5K. Somehow I forgot to tell her that the company she was ordering from had a 30% off sale starting in three days. Oh well... she WAS in a hurry.
Pro tip!! If you buy tools from Home Depot or any big Box company, ya just got Harbor Frieght wrapped in a bought up. Trade mark Name built in the same Asian Factory. And ya just put another U.S. employee outta Ridgid, or Milwaulkee factory in the U.S. applying for work at HD, HF, or any other low wage job they can find. Have a good day.
It feels like its been years since I went to a HD that actually had their saws working...I think they just say out of order these days just to not do it anymore
I paid more for cull lumber, then it cost new. They took 16' lumber, then cut them in half. but the lumber in question, is 3x more at 16', then it is at 8'. So, I paid More then the lumber off the shelf. I brought it back, and literally, didnt want to shop in the store again.
Here’s my tip never order lumber you can’t see they delivered 4 x 4 x 10 post that were half there but they buried him in the stack so I couldn’t see him until I unpacked it then they wouldn’t take them back. it’s hard to erect something when you only have a half a post to do it on.
Damaged Sheetrocks sheet have 50% off... At least at my Home Depot in Québec, Canada Open bags of, let's say rocks or dirt also get 50% off... BUT you have to ask otherwise they won't say a thing and give it!
They will also cut that white wire shelving for you. If you go in with your measurements and the number of shelves you want to install in your closet or pantry, they'll help. (You're not allowed to cut it yourself though. Not sure I want to share how I learned that, but I mean, if they're going to leave power tools just laying around and I'm left unsupervised... ;)
If your THD is near a menards, you can enter your receipt number online when Menards is doing their 11% off sales. THD will send you a gift card for the rebate.
Fyi, you don't have to be a contractor to get a Pro Xtra Loyalty card/membership. Service desk lady kindly told me that when I was making a large purchase. Now I get $$ rewards when buying things for my own personal needs.
I heard about a guy that worked for HD about 20 years ago when some of them were open 24 hrs. He'd have a friend come in and get 5 gallons of custom paint mixed which he'd refuse. Right to the oops rack. The guy would dump all the paint down the slop sink, line the bucket with a plastic bag and fill it with whatever tools would fit and call his friend to come in and buy the bucket in the morning. Might be a rumor.
My free cuts are as close to exact as one would expect, within an eighth. Probably just depends on the employee and how nice you are to them in the first place!
One other thing that you missed, which is why I go to Home Depot instead of Lowes. They give a 10% discount for veterans. And if you are registered with them, you even automatically get it discounted online. '
Adding one more...damaged box discount..yes! Up to 10% off. I bought a toilet recently and selected the one with a beat up damaged box and asked for the discount and got it. If parts are missing they will accept the return.
Price match upc must match exactly. Products might look the same but upc is different no price match. Personally I’ve Lowes and Home Drpot prices the same, unless i’m Buying hundreds of dollars of materials it’s not worth the time to save a couple or three dollars.
Electronics stores used to do that. The same manufacturer would have different model numbers on virtually identical stereos and TVs etc. for different retailers.
Home Depot will honour sale price even days after the sale if you go to the desk. I saw online a compressor and when I went in the next day the sale had ended. So when I complained they gave me the compressor for the online sale price from the day before. Apparently the Manager can do this up to one week after the sale ended.
FYI They will not price match not even another Home Depot nor any other competor nor internet i needed 5 smart locks and went to one store and they had 1 and had lowered pricing and i bought the 1 and they told me another store had the other 4 so i drove there and they would not match price even though i had the receipt to show them and the manager told me they did not match anybodys price even another home depot nor Home Depot online nor anybody period.
Don’t be an ass who buys 5 8 foot 2x4s and wants them cut into 10.5 inch sections. Like do you want us to come over when we get off and put the project together for you too😂😂 Also if you want help loading mulch help out as well. Don’t just sit in your truck and let the employees hand load 40 bags in bed.
I was looking at buying a Bosch chopsaw. It was $749 (Cdn) at both Home Depot and at Lowes. So I kept my eyes on the prices and sure enough one day Lowes marked it as $699. I ran into Home Depot, showed them the ad and then they knocked 10% off $699 Lowes sale price. So I ended up getting it for $630. That $120 saving paid for my fancy Forrest blade I bought for it 😏
everything in this video I already know about except for the three cents at the end of the pricing I'll check it out thank you also damaged open bags cement grout Etc discounted 50% or more unless you get a real douchebag that doesn't want to give any discount it does not hurt to ask if you see an item like this that is not marked
yeah clearance section isnt even discounted most of the time. just looking for suckers to think theyre getting a deal. They should call it what it is DISCONTINUED !!! Last chance to pay full price.
Another tip for rental. If you rent the day before a holiday when HD is closed, you get that day for free.
Better yet for any other day, if you rent a tool in the evening when the store is no longer open for at least 4 hours past the time you rent the tool, you get it until the next morning for the 4-hour price.

I can't unheard the easter egg opening from a couple videos ago... lol
3:07 I don't know if there's a new policy or my store and it makes sense I guess that they won't cut pressure treated wood cuz it has chemicals that release in the air when cut I got to try the other store see if they will let me cut it
You didn't miss anything everything is good awesome video Thank you for the video
3:40 the video talks about plywood but shows sheetrock.😅😂🤣😂😅
Great video, from one dad to another.
From the condition of a lot of their lumber they have in stock, It needs to be reduced as soon as it enters the building! I'm not a perfectionist but have spent a lot of extra time sorting through all the crap lumber they have on the shelves!
I tell HD that I have seen hockey sticks that are straighter!
Both are true.
I went with a Bad Boy and have been very happy with it
Some stores starting to get fussy on those though and will only match the price if it is a sale price. I have had to fight on that point a few times.
@@BillyBlaze7 Sorry to hear that. I'm starting on year 6 with no problems.
OMG.. he's talking about me. I'm that schlep pulling a 20 bag cart of mulch around the store... 🤪
😂 why do you do that?
@@DadDeals Because I never watched your Dad Deals before... and apparently I am a sucker for pain. 😁
😎 glad i could help!
I bought a bag of Ryobi cordless tools, on sale for $199 and got a free cordless miter saw!
They can be sneaky. I went in for a 10' piece of 2" PVC pipe. There were none on the rack.
But close by they had pre-cut PVC lengths in 5' sections. The pre-cuts were 90% (each) of the price of the full size ones.
Just priced garage doors 2, They were Cheaper to have them installed by a Contractor then to purchase and install myself fro Home Depot.
We call that the "a**hole tax".
Oh my that was mean 😂😂😂
Grow up
@@hankd18 Why? Was it your wife?
Touché - agree. No need to be a jerk to the employees. Customers get what they deserve with that type of behavior.
What's the $.02 meaning? Better than $.03? @4:52 there was a john deere 42" "something" for $15.02
I believe it just means 2 weeks until the product is removed from shelves. They are rarer to find as they usually stop at 3
Good stuff. Thank you
It feels like its been years since I went to a HD that actually had their saws working...I think they just say out of order these days just to not do it anymore
I paid more for cull lumber, then it cost new. They took 16' lumber, then cut them in half. but the lumber in question, is 3x more at 16', then it is at 8'. So, I paid More then the lumber off the shelf. I brought it back, and literally, didnt want to shop in the store again.
Home Depot will also price match Amazon not just other box stores.
Here’s my tip never order lumber you can’t see they delivered 4 x 4 x 10 post that were half there but they buried him in the stack so I couldn’t see him until I unpacked it then they wouldn’t take them back. it’s hard to erect something when you only have a half a post to do it on.
Registration fpr free kids craft varies, I used to gp tp 2 different stores. One doesn't care if you register, the other were very serious about it
Damaged Sheetrocks sheet have 50% off...
At least at my Home Depot in Québec, Canada
Open bags of, let's say rocks or dirt also get 50% off...
BUT you have to ask otherwise they won't say a thing and give it!
They will also cut that white wire shelving for you. If you go in with your measurements and the number of shelves you want to install in your closet or pantry, they'll help. (You're not allowed to cut it yourself though. Not sure I want to share how I learned that, but I mean, if they're going to leave power tools just laying around and I'm left unsupervised... ;)
You sound just like Chrisfix!!
If you have cuts done with the panel saw make sure and check the first cut. My experiences they normally do not cut straight and square.
If your THD is near a menards, you can enter your receipt number online when Menards is doing their 11% off sales. THD will send you a gift card for the rebate.
wow, that’s awesome
Fyi, you don't have to be a contractor to get a Pro Xtra Loyalty card/membership. Service desk lady kindly told me that when I was making a large purchase. Now I get $$ rewards when buying things for my own personal needs.
I do the oops paint for my bee hives, I bought used tools… then sold for a profit 😂
Make certain to watch employees who cut wood or glass to your specs as some can't read fractions.
you in virginia?
Remember to tip the loaders
I heard about a guy that worked for HD about 20 years ago when some of them were open 24 hrs. He'd have a friend come in and get 5 gallons of custom paint mixed which he'd refuse. Right to the oops rack. The guy would dump all the paint down the slop sink, line the bucket with a plastic bag and fill it with whatever tools would fit and call his friend to come in and buy the bucket in the morning. Might be a rumor.
Those people never get ahead in life.
Be gracious to the staff. You gets more ants with honey than you gets with vinegar.
they do charge like a dollar less for each cut on lumbers like few years ago.
I’ve never had to pay for a cut
Note: free cuts are about 1-2” from the dimension you actually request.
My free cuts are as close to exact as one would expect, within an eighth. Probably just depends on the employee and how nice you are to them in the first place!
Excellent Smithers.
Lowe’s has always given a 10% Veteran’s Discount - Home Depot Was Losing Out & Begrudgingly Added This. ✌️
What's with the lowes badges with Home Depot tags on the front. Lowes never fails to disappoint.
those are the badges from the kids crafts. my kids collect both lowes and home depot ones
One other thing that you missed, which is why I go to Home Depot instead of Lowes. They give a 10% discount for veterans. And if you are registered with them, you even automatically get it discounted online.
'
lowes does the same thing
Are you CHRIS FIX?
7:12, some peoples are courageous...
I have stood in a department and called the store to have someone come to the department for customer service
I just got the 10 miter saw for 200
FYI They will not price match not even another Home Depot nor any other competor nor internet i needed 5 smart locks and went to one store and they had 1 and had lowered pricing and i bought the 1 and they told me another store had the other 4 so i drove there and they would not match price even though i had the receipt to show them and the manager told me they did not match anybodys price even another home depot nor Home Depot online nor anybody period.
There's a term for this. 7:12 Blind Faith.
So a price of $6 on something that was originally $12 is a 50% off sale? You don’t say?
Veterans get 10% off almost all items. Register your phone number and enter it during check out.
Hey 😌😌
Don’t be an ass who buys 5 8 foot 2x4s and wants them cut into 10.5 inch sections. Like do you want us to come over when we get off and put the project together for you too😂😂
Also if you want help loading mulch help out as well. Don’t just sit in your truck and let the employees hand load 40 bags in bed.
Why you goin to lowes for dadurday in a home depo video
Not once have I seen a discount rack and I go there twice a week
I was looking at buying a Bosch chopsaw. It was $749 (Cdn) at both Home Depot and at Lowes. So I kept my eyes on the prices and sure enough one day Lowes marked it as $699. I ran into Home Depot, showed them the ad and then they knocked 10% off $699 Lowes sale price. So I ended up getting it for $630. That $120 saving paid for my fancy Forrest blade I bought for it 😏
This sounds a lot like Chris Fix
everything in this video I already know about except for the three cents at the end of the pricing I'll check it out thank you also damaged open bags cement grout Etc discounted 50% or more unless you get a real douchebag that doesn't want to give any discount it does not hurt to ask if you see an item like this that is not marked
About 90% of the lumber at Home Depot should be sold as cull lumber. The Walmart of lumber stores.
Is this Chris Fix?
It does sound like him
Thank man
I saw the kid hitting with the hammer, and the man holding the piece of wood so close to be hit but it 😂😂😂😂
yeah clearance section isnt even discounted most of the time. just looking for suckers to think theyre getting a deal. They should call it what it is DISCONTINUED !!! Last chance to pay full price.
Tip for transporting 4x8 sheet. Get a minivan instead of a truck.
