26/11 was probably the least of Congress's mistakes. Imagine if they had completed all the infrastructure projects started during the Vajpayee government that had gotten bogged down. How much more developed and prosperous could India's economy have been. How many more people would have been educated or able to move or work better jobs or get medical treatment in time. Bureaucracy and political gridlock are silent killers, but they are still killers nonetheless. And they were far more deadly than 26/11. I think the big shift happening in India, is now that stability and self confidence is there, the country is focusing less on image and more on actual substance. And its focusing less on dividing up the economic pie amongst various groups and more on growing the whole thing. That takes faith in governance, and faith in the capitalist reforms that have been so successful in Asian Tiger economies, China, etc.

As someone from the NE, I could vouch for the fact that one of the major demands of people was for rapid infrastructure development, in terms of road, railways and air connectivity.. BJP govt at the Union has delivered remarkably well on all these counts and is continuing to do so. E.g., Broad gauge line extn to Silchar had been a pipe-dream for over 20 years for people in Barak valley and Tripura. May 2014, Modi govt takes the reins and by Sept 2014, the first BG train chugs into Silchar of Barak Valley! Why wouldn’t people vote for BJP/ BJP+
BJP = Fast Development , They have done so much in last 9 years that no other have done in multiple decades. Unprecedented growth and Infrastructure development , National Security with little socialism for the poor. Need them to be in power as long as they keep doing it.
One of the reasons of BJPs success in this area is due to its HIRA (Highway + Internet + Railway + Airways) initiatives. Even though a lot more needs to be done, the changes are visible.
Great analysis. Just one point to add in the list of newly invented national heros, the mount Manipur in Andaman-Nicobar, in memory of Maharaja Kulachandra of Manipur. Only Modi and BJP can find out such innovative idea of connecting India emotionally.
Agreed. We have read about the king of Manipur being sent to "kala Pani" in Andaman, Manipuris even regularly visit the site of their captivity. It was an emotional connection to the core when BJP named the site as Mount Manipur. Also, the naming of war ships of the Indian Navy as INS Imphal in recognition of the battle of Imphal fought between the Japanese+INA and the allied force.
@@hpremjit Naming of the Navy's destroyer as INS Imphal has little to do with any party in power Indian Navy always has this tradition that they name all the Vessels and submarines with all of India's cities, Mountain Ranges and ancient spots. Thats the only correction i would like to make here.
Drunk on power and high on elitism, INC used to IGNORE India. Today India is IGNORING their "friend request". A Gazillion Bharat Jodos won't help if the INC continues to dismiss results as SMALL & INSIGNIFICANT. Most hilarious was Supriya Shrinate calling it out. That women couldn't fetch even 6% in her own LS constituency.
Many in tripura thought tribals will completely vote TMP But they did not They voted bjp for the same reason bjp won a majority Data to prove my comment BJP won 6 out of 20 ST seats this time last time it won 10 seats last election bjp won 36 this time won 32 simply indicating all bjp lost was mostly the tribal vote to tmp .... the general voteshare is same as it was approximately
Yes around 35% of the tribals voted for bjp in the name of good Governance, subsidies, free health, home, drinking water, road, infra. That 35% number is huge if you see how TMP used polarization. Next time it is bound to increase. Bjp is frist priority specialy among jamatias( the memeber of whome bjp gave padmashree this year) , mogs, darlongs (who were given st status recently) chakmas(who see bjp as their masihah since it is the only party which gave their community 3 tickets this time ) and hindu reangs (whom bjp gave voting rights recently) .
Tribals in tripura isn't a monolith. What they got is less than what they got in 2018. And bjp manifesto is full of promise strengthening the 6th schedule area.
@u.j their manifesto in 2023 is all about 6 th schedule areas this time. In 2018 they Amit shah and himanta bishwasharma bought out ipft so bjp did not have to do anything. This time also nothing will be done about strengthening ADC because they have majority. May be some token steps.
@u.j i dint say mogs were given st status recently. Read again. I mentioned darlongs. Darlongs were sub tribe. Now they are included in st as main tribe. To u this can be minor issue. But to them it is an issue of their empowerment, status, dignity. Same can be said for jamatias. And about chakmas crossing the border. I believe it doesnot matter if they crossed the border or not. They are india citizens as long as they ve citizenship card. And to my knowledge these chakma people are highly nationalist. We should appreciate that.
Everything good that I hear has happened in the last two and a half decades has some or the other linkage to the Vajpayee era. It's a shame we Indians did not give that man another term.
If I remember correctly, Vajpayee did win in significant numbers but because of Godhra no ally was willing to touch them. At that time Andhra Pradesh (United) CM Chandra Babu Naidu was quite popular and used to yield quite a heft. He managed a coalition to keep BJP out of power.
BJP has had unmitigated success in incorporation of people across the country. Take my state Karnataka for an example, while there was representation under Congress, at no point were Kannadigas represented to the degree we are currently. This will happen with NE too. Perhaps in a decade.
SG trying his best to take away credit from BJP. Fact remains that north east got its biggest developmental push from Modi Govt alone. I never remember north east elections and affairs in general getting so much press until recent times.
Adding here one more point is that the first electric train operates in India was in 1925 and NE region gets its first electric train in 2022 almost a century later.
SG is very enthusiastic whenever the subject is North East ; Happy to see NE is coming into main stream after decades of insurgency and devastation; Only issue is border states and border skirmishes will be there ; It is for the respective state leaders to take responsibility;

Central govt provided a lot of infra - railways, station, airports, NH,AIIMS, schools, hospitals - and benefits to below poverty citizens. Still BJP did not get MLA seats in these three seats. BJP managed to cross the half way mark. Message is very clear. Development and benefits will not get MLA victory in minorities areas . They need freehand for conversion of Hindus. BJP will agree for political power but the ordinary Hindu community will oppose. In social media, awareness has come for Hindus
One thing Sir Sekhar missed out: Except Assam and Tripura, people and political parties in other north eastern states have no ideology or political loyalty in general. They are shape and colour shifting according to the ruling dispensation and party in power at the centre, in New Delhi.
Have had the privilege of living a fifth of my life in the North East, including +2 from St Anthony's Shillong, then located at the Don Bosco Square. Have loved every day of this wonderful experience. Assam, West Kameng and ofcourse Happy Valley, Shillong (5 and a half years in total)😊😊
I am glad you raised the issue about connectivity to the north east regions. Because communication before anything else comes first for development of a region

Polarizing is something which is done by Congress (Muslim exceptionalism in the laws/judiciary to article 370 and caste politics). CAA is not Hindu vs muslim, it is about providing a home for the persecuted Non-muslims of the Indian subcontinent. But it is your and Left's tendency (/instinct) to call every BJP move/policy as polarizing/divisive.
Crawling pace has been the hallmark of Congress governance. Thus they lost power and we have Mr. RG lamenting his misfortune and pulling India down in UK.
Wonderful. Wonderful to hear this. One more change I thought I observed was the amount of dedicated election coverage I saw on NDTV. In the earlier years, elections from the northeastern states used to be just a passing mention. This cycle, they had a dedicated show for the results, just like they would for a Rajasthan or Karnataka. I was really glad to see that change.
Our North east compatriots have voted for the right government that cares for their development. They are now an integral part of mainstream India. Jai Hind
It was always about religion and ethnicity in the north east. Imagine living in your rajasthan and getting flooded by Pakistanis while government is distributing ID's and ration cards to them. BJP and NE are natural partners in that abuse.
No matter how anyone tries to paint bjp politics it's majority of voters know they vote for development and infrastructure and they don't expect the same from other parties .
One small correction sir ... Apart from the Saraighat Bridge built in 1962, there was one more bridge, the Kolia Bhomora bridge which was constructed in 1987 well before even ABV Ji had come to power.
You have incorrectly mentioned that before 2014 there was only one bridge over River Brahmaputra in Assam connecting North & South bank. Infact there were three, one in Guwahati, one in Tezpur & another in Goalpara. After 2014, two more were completed.
I very well remember this term "mainland India" used by northeasterners for refering to rest of India, this very well shows gap within India i hope this gap only shrinks and they no longer use mainland for refering to us India should be just India, no mainland, no northeast
Great analysis as always, Mr Gupta. Only one correction, Assam had a second bridge over the Brahmaputra as early as 1985-86 at Kalia Bhomora near Tezpur. Hope this correction is made.
‘Basic polarizing instinct’ it is time time media revisits this narrative. Seems BJP succeeded because of localization.. The next frontier for BJP is South and Tamil Nadu in particular Best of luck !!! …
At 10:50 SG mentioned that until 2014 there was only one Bridge across Brahmaputra which is factually wrong, there were three Bridges. Saraighat Bridge near Guwahati - 1962 Naranarayan Setu in Lower Assam - 1998 Koliabhumura Bridge connecting Nogaon Tezpur - 1987 Currently it has 5 Bridges and two with ongoing construction.
I sincerely pray a greater prosperity to our brothers and sisters of North east. After all the hardship we have come of age of commendable infrastructure, connectivity and hands on approach to respect and recognize all small& big. As rightly said by Shekarji, it has brought in the sense of belonging.
Only bjp is the future for india. The current opposition is useless. Time for good people from corporate to get into politics and become a good opposition for next 100 years
Mr Gupta is not a great supporter of Bjp/ Modi government, but doesn’t shy away from mentioning good works done by the present government or pointing at the problems with opposition
Mr SG was an employee of Indian Express..Statement like "CAA is not wanted in Bengal and Assam" which is opposite to ground reality and typical left narrative, does prove that...And NRC was a long standing demand from native Assamese.. Mr SG should not spread false interpretations...
Frankly, NE headache is a gift from imperialism of the Britain. Traditional edge of India in the east was Kamrup, or Assam. The British occupied these ever-warring regions for reasons best known to them. I’m glad that the government of India has resolved these old conflicts. Many thanks for your fine presentation.
Large parts of modern India including Sikkim, Uttarakhand, and perhaps parts of Himachal were also a gift from the British to India as a result of the Anglo - Nepal war and subsequent Treaty of Sugauli of 1816. The British also had won the Terai region of Nepal but returned it later. It also started recruiting Gurkhas into the Army, a practice that continues even today.
Headache? After exploiting us out of our petroleum, coal, uranium, rivers; our people forming the frontline of indian army in its most dangerous missions- this is the term you give us?

I understand The Print caters to a certain demographic, but that last sentence is symptomatic of the confusion that has ruminated Shekhar since the past several years.
One thing is For SURE, Modiji has a 360 degree vision. During good old days, in Delhi, forget north east, no one ever talked about states like Odisha, WB and Assam; now they are crown jewels of east. We are proud of our Political leaders both from BJP and BJD who have kept Odisha in the National Map.
My first episode of the Print was with an episode of Assam quite some time back and since then I have been hooked. The channel has grown by leaps and bounds since then and it helps that Mr Gupta also has (I hope) a special place for the NE. Genuine, honest pieces about the North-East backed by honest journalism is what keeps me attached to this channel. Also, gladdens me to see this change in the NE where the younger generation can dream of a better life. A lot remains to be done in terms of job creation, education and skill levels but there is hope that it can be done. Integrating the NE with the rest of the ASEAN nations by air would be the icing on the cake. Indians, remember YOU are RESPONSIBLE for such news. I would have NEVER expected to see such news before 2014. Thanks to 🇮🇳 and Indians for electing Modiji and the BJP. My head used to hang in shame when I used to see the UPA, it's corruption, its minority appeasement and how PM MMS was treated by pappu and his party. Like the rest of the world, I too was shocked to see the UPA give a non response to 26/11 due to their vote bank politics. If we don't want to return to those days, it's Modi and BJP again in 2024 🙏💪
👏👏👏🙌 well said sir
Yes. Also nationalists are indebted to our brothers and sisters of North India . If not for them we would not have got BJP government.
Exactly👍
Yes,you are right.
I can vouch for the massive change in infrastructure. Road from Imphal to my home is even better than the EU standards.
good for you
Big development will continue to come in the future through the progressing India-Vietnam trade corridor.

Ha ha 😅😁😆😂🤣😃✊🥰🤗🤗💪🇮🇳
As someone from the NE, I could vouch for the fact that one of the major demands of people was for rapid infrastructure development, in terms of road, railways and air connectivity.. BJP govt at the Union has delivered remarkably well on all these counts and is continuing to do so. E.g., Broad gauge line extn to Silchar had been a pipe-dream for over 20 years for people in Barak valley and Tripura. May 2014, Modi govt takes the reins and by Sept 2014, the first BG train chugs into Silchar of Barak Valley! Why wouldn’t people vote for BJP/ BJP+
Positive politics of Modi ji and BJP showing results. Infrastructure, Inclusiveness and peace, with good implementation of welfare policies.
Only Modi and BJP can find out such innovative idea of connecting India emotionally.
they are not NEWLY invented but wrapped under carpet heros by english created party - Congress
@@hpremjit Naming of the Navy's destroyer as INS Imphal has little to do with any party in power
Indian Navy always has this tradition that they name all the Vessels and submarines with all of India's cities, Mountain Ranges and ancient spots. Thats the only correction i would like to make here.

Many in tripura thought tribals will completely vote TMP
But they did not
They voted bjp for the same reason bjp won a majority
Data to prove my comment
BJP won 6 out of 20 ST seats this time
last time it won 10 seats
last election bjp won 36 this time won 32
simply indicating all bjp lost was mostly the tribal vote to tmp ....
the general voteshare is same as it was approximately
Tmp dominated tribal vote

Genuine, honest pieces about the North-East backed by honest journalism is what keeps me attached to this channel. Also, gladdens me to see this change in the NE where the younger generation can dream of a better life. A lot remains to be done in terms of job creation, education and skill levels but there is hope that it can be done.
