  • Trains in the street, Trams in the street are always fun to watch. This CSX streetrunner video was made in LaGrange Kentucky on the Louisville And Nashville Railway L&N LCL sub. Filmed Tuesday, January 17, 2017. I was there from 11:30am to 6pm and saw 4 trains. The last train with the Spirit of Maryland engine took the siding and was unable to load so the dispatcher took down the signal for them and called maintenance. This town is a no train horn town. Thanks for watching! Please comment, rate and SUBSCRIBE TO JAWTOOTH!!

      iusetano - my mother's old apartment was like that. Right behind her garage was a track, although it didn't run down the middle of the street. Now we're in Florida. CSX main line barely half a mile away. Horns 24/7. I love hearing those horns!

    I always think it's so neat to see street running! Baltimore city had tracks in the streets everywhere back in the day (before my time). Most have been taken up or paved over, but there's a few places where you can still see the tracks & cobblestone. Of course they're no longer used.

    That is quite a sight to see; what looks like a tram rails is actually the real railway, just meters off the shops and windows. By the way, I wouldn't like to be in hurry in the morning and waiting for such a long train to pass, while being late for work in my parked car beside the tracks... awesome video though, cheers from Poland!

      I'll never get tired either. Well, I dislike the new electric commuters being put into service In Auckland. I miss the diesels...

    • @246spyder
      @246spyder 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      LOL, I miss the steam, the chuffing, the whistles, the clickity-clack.
      But most of all, I Miss the faraway sound of the lonely whistle of the distant night runners and always wondering what wonderful and strange places they were going. Those sounds will be with me forever. Always put me to sleep.
      Oh, by the way, thanks.

      The thunder of an oncoming locomotive always makes me smile. I don't know why but in every aspect I prefer a combustion engine to any other form of propulsion. I prefer props over jets, I prefer diesel over electric and steam, and I prefer conventional engines in cars.

    I live in Bedford Indiana,we to have tracks down through the center of town. Rail service stopped running through here about 10 yrs. ago and all that is left are the tracks but I would sit and watch them roll by and love every moment. The L&N,Monon and Milwaukee RR were the dominate users of the rail back then. Thanks for sharing!

    A very nicely-done video. One item of note is that trains, due to their massive size, appear to be traveling much slower than they actually are, which means a freight train that seems to be lumbering down the line may in fact be going 25-30 mph.

    Nice. This line reminds me of the Weymouth tramway in Weymouth where trains used to run through the streets for about a mile. I think they used to use it for boat trains. The last train ran on it in 1999 and they closed it for safety reasons. There is a video on here on it. Great video and thanks for uploading!

      @JawTooth  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have seen a few close calls where people will try to back out into the middle of the street when a train is coming. In one of my videos the train sounded the horn for a car that backed in front of them and scared the driver. I think the second train was carrying grain if I remember correctly. Thanks for watching!

    • @ferky123
      @ferky123 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jaw Tooth today's trains are relatively silent unless they're pouring on the power and cars are being insulated for sound dampening in the cabin. I think that it should be the law that a train has to have on its bell if it's street running.

    Shelby NC had a version of this running through its Uptown. It's a now abandoned Norfolk Southern line that served the textile mills. It is in process of being turned into a rail trail as all the mills closed years ago. I recall occasional traffic up until 2012 to serve the concrete plant that still operates on the line.

    When I was a child and visited LaGrange in the 60s and 70s, trains entered town at 25-35 mph similar to the second train after it worked up to track speed. The L&N did not waste time. But in those days, LaGrange was an isolated small town, not a suburb like today.

    That was... remarkably quiet. Even when going across the crossings they didn't sound the horns, just that fairly subtle ding-ding-ding to give you a clue that several thousand tons of metal death might be bearing down on you at 10mph or so... The locos and all those wagons oiled on past in total stealth mode.

    In Switzerland, it is actually very common to see trains running through the streets. Most of them are actually small narrow gauge trains going into the mountains, as in the narrow valleys, there is often no space for both a street and a railroad.
    And in Zurich, there is still a normal gauge railroad delivering grain to the SwissMill multiple times a day, passing through some streets in the city!

    I think the town is there because of the railroad. So it's the type of town that makes this so special.

    Without a doubt LaGrange was my favorite place I fanned in 2016. It sounds like the directional running is in full force now? Great video as usual, well done!

      They still pass there on the passing track in LaGrange. Of the 4 trains that I saw, 3 were southbounds and 1 was a northbound. Thanks for watching!

      It is a really awesome place to spend a day. I like your channel name. I have had chickens most of my life. I have a flock right now that free ranges on my farm.

    I wouldn't mind having an apartment on that street. I'd sleep like a baby. The sound of the train would help my mind unwind.

    This is great.
    I can only think of one nearby city that has a street runner like this, but it's only a once a week operation. I've never seen it in realtime
    Very Nice!!

      I know where there are a bunch of street runners but most of them are not very busy like the one you are talking about. Theres a streetrunner in Franklin Ohio and one in St Mary West Virginia that I plan on getting this summer. When I go to Florida next week I want to try to catch the Tampa streetrunner again but it is down to only a few trips a week. Thanks for watching!

      Back when I used to live in Toronto, many tears ago, there were train tracks on First street, but they were off to the side, not in the center like this one. Vehicle traffic could still move when the train was rolling. But of course they could only go straight. So if they needed to cross the rails they would have to wait.

      Harold: NO you don't want to do that! It gets old after seeing it a few times. Trains thru the middle of town suck, believe me.

      Harold Bullock Since you probably can't move there, you can visit any time, day or night. They have a live cam there on Main Street 24/7. And a chat room with really nice folk. Search La Grange, Kentucky Live Virtual Railfan.
