    Now I may be surprised at how long a freight train can get pulled by one engine here in the UK but that is ridiculous!
    Only 2 engines for a train that takes at least 10 minutes to pass? I'm sure they are designed for this length of train like the ones here are but am not an engineer.
    Here in the UK the only trains that run on streets like this one are light rail trams. Nothing like this one ever goes near town/city centres here.

    Either the unit is going to deployment or coming home from deployment. I know because we had to do the same thing when I was stationed in Germany and deployed to Iraq. We had to load up ALL of our equipment and vehicles on rail cars. And since that's in Kentucky I want to say its most likely coming from or going to Fort Knox.

    63 flatcars (flatbed wagons)!! Now if each flatcar is 89 feet (27.13 m) long (the aproximate length of 2 shipping containers) then the length of the train (excluding the locos) is over 1.06 miles (1.71 km) long. Just imagine having to walk from the loco to the last wagon if there is a problem with it!! The length of the GE ES44AC # CSX 3084 (a 4,400 hp, AC traction diesel electric) is 73 ft 2 in (22.30 m) and the length of the GE C40-8W # 8352 (a 4000 hp, DC traction diesel electric) is 70 ft 8 in (21.54 m).

      I saw a figure of 89 feet for the length of a standard freight flatbed car in North America which is 27.13 meters. I counted how many cars go by in one minute a few times and the answer was about 10 cars per minute, this is 16 kilometers per hour (10 mph) a expected slow speed considering the street. It takes about 5 minutes and 45 seconds for all the cars to pass so the train is just under 1500 meters long with about 55 cars. Its not really a particularly long or very heavy freight train with two engines in a hilly area, Kentucky. Some western intercontinental freight trains in North America (Canada runs big trains too) can be 200 cars long double stack container trains with up to 8 locomotives distributed in the front, center, and rear to cross the mountain passes..

    Okay, I’m from the Netherlands. I’ve seen a lot of video’s of trains in North America going through the middle of the street, but why the heck would you ever build a railroad straight through a town or city? I now somewhere in Europe there’s a similar railroad. But why would you run military trains down that track, why not build a track around the city or in an enclosed passage through the city that has fences next to the tracks? Maybe you think it’s just fun to see, I think it is cool but it also is very weird.

    • @dwightstjohn6927
      @dwightstjohn6927 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      the original railroad would own the Right-of-Way and the city was built around it 100 years ago, because the rail was there!!! Look at Calgary and Vancouvers' BC yard right in town. It was there pretty much first. IF you wanted to move the rail you'd spend 50 years getting road Rights-of=Way organized. By then, the city would have quadrupled in size or you wouldn't need it.
