- One of the best games for the Sega Genesis and my personal favorite of this series. I'm playing the fan translation, but there's an official one for PS3.
I restarted the game until I got 777 coins in the Mute Tower, just to show what happens.
I also wasted some time in the Ice World because I stupidly forgot to free enough inventory space beforehand, so I sped up those parts.

Together with World Of Illusion the best use of color on the Genesis period.
Helpful Tip: That chest where you get five life seeds at the beginning can be opened repeatedly by pressing up. You can literally max out your blue health right at the beginning of the game. And given the difficulty of some of the bosses, I'd recommend it. This trick works for the translated ROM; IDK if it works for the PS3 version.
Also note how each of the "spirits" is the same as the "followers" from _Wonderboy in Monster World._

I think this is the cutest Genesis game ever. Also think she taught Amanda Ripley to crawl through tunnels and vents.

Nice, helps me finish the 3rd ice pyramid. But the real reason I'm commenting is you shouldn't play with "enhanced PSG" turned on in your emulator. I seriously want to punch whoever came up with that feature lol
It changes the square wave output of the PSG chip into a sine wave output. So basically it is a switch to make the sound much less accurate. It also messes up sound effects and some music that relies on it, like this game has. Some people might like the sound of it, and if they do, more power to them, but I imagine a lot of people enable it assuming it makes the sound emulation more accurate when it does exactly the opposite.

Hey there, I played through this ages ago and I'm sure there's a boss fight towards the middle to three quarters of the way through that shares one of the boss BGMs from Wonderboy in Monster World. I've just had a quick search through the video to see if I could identify it, but no joy. Does anyone know the one I'm talking about? It's driving me nuts.

48:41 I had no idea you could use Pepe like that. What I did to get out of there was to get the genie to take me back to town, heal up, and go ALL the way back. I already got passed it but I'll try to remember this for next time.
The entirety of this game reminds me of my childhood. Though the only parts that made me rather cross was the Frozen Pyramid Labyrinth because MONOTONY and me needing to reset my progress because I overlooked the secret chest past the Black Spell Door in Frozen Pyramid I!
Nearly shed a few tears at the end of the journey because 1. It was, well the end of the Monster World series, 2. The soundtrack is heartmelting, 3. Not enough games are made like this and 4. stories are important to me when I'm interested in them!
If anyone can tell me the name of any game that's like this in terms of the music and platforming, please do!
Did you play Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom, which came out a few years ago? It's the latest in the Wonder Boy series, and it's excellent!

The music... yeah, using the same overall tune, but varying it a bit. Some might call it lazy, but I probably would've done the same to keep my sanity.
Anyway, very good gameplay here.

It is what is called a "leif-motif".
Fast forward to now and Elder Scrolls .. Borderlands. .. witcher ... all do this . That makes it ahead of its time .. not lazy

Been saying that for 9+ years, but honestly, as a long time Wonderboy fan, I much prefer the Shantae series. It should be getting close to a new one getting announced hopefully.
I played this on ps5 watching to learn now.
i played this game in japanese..i was stuck before the 1:14:00 mark..because i couldn't read the signs and there was no walkthough online when i was playing it in 2001. Completely surprised that pressing up behind one of the pillars did something !

When you get 777 coins, it jumps to 7777.
After wonderboy 5 this game had super high expectation from the fans but ended up being a huge disappointment.

@@martymartin2894 I like both equally, maybe this one a little better because I love the pet mechanics. I'd say the previous one is a little harder, especially the final boss, but they're about the same.

Now that I beaten the game. I can't believe they replaced the story for one that doesn't make any sense. Originally you could choose either Yusha(male character) or Asha(female character) and the story revolved around defeating the Biomeka empire for good. Eleanora was going to comeback and probably other characters as well. Magic attacks were cut as well as the different weapons(axe, laser gun ,etc.). The aliens created android versions of the monsters like cyber-slime, cyber-dragon, etc. There was also going to be the alien king and the alien queen. I'm assuming it was going to be a direct sequel to WB5:MW3. All the references to aliens and cyber monsters were cut for obvious reasons. It really looked like an epic ending to the series closing all loose ends but no instead we get a not so useful creature with a stupid name and fighting an enemy that lives off sadness and hatred which is really dumb. Also, this game contradicts events of the previous one like Shion's partners not being that relevant at all and whatever happened to the demon prince. This game must take place on an alternate universe. Westone screwed up big time.

This game isn't Wonder Boy VI... To call it Wonder Boy VI is to called Mega Man X, more like: " _Mega Man 8: Mega Man X_ ".
Monster Land/World is a spin-off series where the Wonder Boy title isn't necessary, which is why it was dropped for this game.
The problem is that in the previous games in Japan both the Wonder Boy title name and Monster World title are present with roman numbers, so this games name should actually be Wonderboy VI Monster World IV.
I Guess that they at this point realised how confusing this title is and completely dropped the Wonder boy title. And since it stars a girl it probably was an easy choice.
But now that the game is coming to the west as a re-make it´s getting confusing again since the old title is back and it will be called Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World even if it isn't about a boy at all.
ALSO THE MAIN CHARACHTER IS DIFFERENT

You really have to be into arabian culture to enjoy this game, I mean I wouldn't mind if there was an arabian area in Monster World, but that the entire Monster World was inexplicably turned into an arabian world doesn't make sense and I am not a very big fan of arabian culture, I can enjoy it a bit, but an entire world based on this culture is too much for me to enjoy, I couldn't get myself to finish Monster World 4 because it is too different from the previous Monster World even though it is supposed to be a direct sequel continuing the story of Biomeka, this is not the same world as in the previous game so it doesn't make sense at all and as I said, I am not big enough fan of arabian culture to appreciate an entire game based on this culture, especially if it doesn't make sense in the continuity of the story.
Wait, after watching this video, I remember that I actually completed this game even though I forgot it and thought I had given up before the end! 😳
However, there is something wrong in your video because I clearly remember that when I played this game, I saw Biomeka talking to the warlocks between every temple and I didn't see it in your video, you missed some very important cutscenes for the story, I don't why they didn't happen in your video but then, that makes your video incomplete since we only see Biomeka as the final boss and we didn't get to see all its dialogues with its followers the warlocks. 😟
