Jeff, I believe the part that caused the problem is the oil defense pipe. It is part# 12385-ZE6-000. It can fall out and it goes into the upper half of the cylinder head. Their is a little clip that can bend and come loose when you separate the engine. I don't see one on yours when you put the engine back together. Take care and great video by the way.

@@JeffsLittleEngineService two years later so this is probably not relevant to you, but maybe the next guy sees it! I'm agreeing with Christine Henderson above - there is a small black plastic tube that directs oil onto the governor gear teeth. Being plastic in a hot oily environment, it can get rather brittle. I was just in my HRA214 engine and it was a challenge removing that piece without breaking it. If it broke while in use, it would basically fall into the crank/cam gears and get ground to pieces, just like you've got here!

I just bought a HR215 MASTERS at an estate sale for $6.00 plus tax.. ONG.. What a great mower. My 1997 Toro Super recycler needed too much work(great mower) I stole this one. It has very low hours and the price makes it a true steal..

I think the black plastic may be from an oil pick up tube. Not sure but I saw one in mine, assuming that’s what it is.

That plastic is from the push rod guide plate in the head. Looks like one broke apart and got sucked down onto the crankcase.

Bought one new around 2001 at a dealer. They were more like $900 + at the time. The newer equivalent shaft-drive models with hydrostatic trans in the 160 and 190 engines has been more like $750. The only thing "fancier" were the electric start models.
