    I'm still waiting for my powdered chromium oxide and monocrystalline diamond abrasives to arrive in the mail, so I have yet to try this for myself yet to confirm the following recipe... 🙄
    🤔I found your video as I'm getting all the other ingredients needed to make up my own DIY stropping compounds and resin bound dia-chrome sharpening "stones" to achieve some truly scary sharp blades 🗡
    But based on some information I've gathered from deep-down the sharpening rabbit hole is from what I've been able to research. People have mentioned doing the following with decently good results; combine 1:1 ratio of vegetable glycerin & propylene glycol with ~0.5-0.75g w/w (7.5-10 grams of VG w/w, mixed with equal PG, so ~15g total, then add 0.5-1gram diamond abrasive which is ~10% w/w) this should result in a very stable suspension with very little flocculation of the diamonds even if left for extended periods of time, but said recipe won't spray out of those atomizers' you used unfortunately. So in order to to thin it out slightly it's necessary to add a minimal amount of distilled/RO water, which IMO should be added 1-2 drop(s) at a time and mixed well until it's just BARELY a low enough viscosity to be sprayed 😒
    Dilution is best done slowly and carefully as all it takes is a few drops... Add just a few drops more than is absolutely necessary, and it will totally ruin the emulsion that allows the solids to stay in suspension. This causes most of the diamonds to crash and fall out of the suspension, quickly flocculating almost all the powder to the bottom in a matter of minutes. Basically wasting the diamonds as reconstitution could end up more difficult than it's worth taking much more diamonds and solvents then planned... 🤦‍♂
    Personally, I would only add a drop (or 2) and mix thoroughly, then test sprayer right away... **"rinse and repeat" as necessary until one gets a sprayable emulsion* 🧪😁 ***(NOTE: it's unlikely to be able to spray very well even when diluted. So,) as soon as anything comes out of the atomizer I would consider just stopping right there or only adding another drop or two to prevent ruining it, even if it comes out kinda clumpy-chunky at least it comes out at all as an abrasive suspended emulsion 😆
    My recipe for dia-chrome honing stones, compound bars, and emulsions on the other hand... are all still completely untested, so I'm not quite comfortable sharing or recommending those to anyone just yet as I have quite a few ideas up in the mind of this alchemist to create an even better cutting, more efficient, and more wear resistant "stone" for MUCH MUCH LESS $$$ 🤑 Those resin bonded CBN stones are insanely priced even for a 1"x4" IMHO 😅
    It's only a matter of time though before I have some of my own and start testing, which after that I'll be more than willing to share it with the blade knife sharpening community as soon as I get some preliminary trials done and have enough of a rough draft to be able to actually call it a workable recipe, then I'll let the community beta-test it themselves. Hopefully allowing the hive-mind to truly perfect the recipe and process into something refined to perfection so that anyone & everyone can benefit from that knowledge 👨‍🔬
    Anyone that has any other DIY recipes with making their own bonded "stones" w/ aluminum oxide, chromium oxide, Cubic Boron-Nitride (CBN), silicon carbide, yttrium doped zirconium, diamonds, and/or sapphire/ceramic with decent results. I'd really love to hear your experience with said compound 💯🧐

      @DylanC-d5d I will be very interested in hearing updates about your experiments. 50/50, PG/VG, is a mixture I use to make diy vape liquid. The PG is much thinner than the VG component; almost the viscosity of water. By adjusting the ratio of the mixture, we can change the viscosity of the finished product. It may be worth trying a 40/60 or a 70/30 ratio. You can then fine-tune the ratio until you find the correct viscosity for your spray bottles. This will eliminate the need for water.

    I appreciate your focus on value & instruction; I've been debating what to put on my fresh leather stropping belts, and will try this out.
    Are diamond emulsions functional on felt belts as well?
    Thanks!

    • @zionpsyfer
      @zionpsyfer 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They are. One of the videos I've seen that talked about diamond on felt belts strongly recommended Paul's mixture of only alcohol with the diamonds when using on felt belts or wheels. I think it had to do with gumming up the felt with emulsion or paste. Water could make the felt shrink(?)

    Thank you for the video good sir. I bought some diamonds a few weeks ago and have been debating whether to try suspensions. This cinches it- no need.
    To my mind, mono diamonds should be preferable for polishing anyway. Polys cut may faster but wouldn't it be preferable to use a slightly gentler abrasive with a more shallow scratch pattern? Maybe I'm weird.

    • @ALXSHARPEN
      @ALXSHARPEN  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Well depends on the finish and look you want. There are so many diamonds microns available it's crazy. I hate mirror polish stuff so I don't go above 1 micron often. But they can be useful for lots of things at 50,000 and up you can take scratches out of mirrors and acrylic and plastics I don't like how easily mirrored knives scratch so I don't buy them and rarely take on work that wants a full mirror polish because I just hate how easily it scratches from lower abrasives being around. Nothing makes me more mad than wiping a mirror finish with a rag and it gets a scratch from one of the abrasives in the shop that may be on the rag.

    • @zionpsyfer
      @zionpsyfer 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ALXSHARPEN 100% agree on mirror polish (both entire blade and secondary bevel). Too much upkeep unless you are just using it for display. I was thinking more of cleaning up around the apex and burr/burr root removal. Wouldn't it be best to avoid deep scratches and the possible distressing of metal when doing that cleanup?
      Ultimately i suppose it's splitting hairs on my part since either type does the job. Thanks for the reply and for the knowledge you share. I have learned so much.

    It's an interesting video I linked in the description the guy who did it presents the data well. For me this has worked great for the last several years. I saved money considering what I had spent on Polly Sprays to just test some out. It's a fantastic way to finish knives. I have also had great results with Tormek paste as well amzn.to/3J2vfqk for me I can't see spending $36 for just 10ml of a name brand diamond spray when I can make my own for around $15-$20 for over 110 MLs thats 11 X more product with very close to the same results.
