    Intro:
Over the last 3 days I have extensively tested the new Google Pixel Watch for its sports and health tracking performance. In this video we will take a detailed look at the heart rate accuracy, sleep tracking performance, GPS tracking, and step counting accuracy of this newly developed watch from Google. I’ll also compare the performance of the Pixel Watch to that of another brand new Google owned smartwatch, the Fitbit Sense 2. If you want to know more about the specs of the new Google Pixel Watch, there are plenty of resources out there, like Google’s website. Therefore, in this video I will focus on unbiased performance testing of the Pixel Watch. So, without further ado, let’s get to the test results, and I want to start off with the heart rate tracking results. In total I tested the Google Pixel Watch during a total of 12 training sessions.
Looking at the Pixel Watch from a sports and health tracking perspective, it feels like it is still lagging behind the competition quite substantially. If we compare it to the Apple Watch, arguably it’s main competitor, the Pixel Watch performs worse in basically all categories based on my testing. The Pixel Watch really feels like a first attempt to me, and I hope Google will learn a lot from creating this watch, and that the second version will be significantly better. I can honestly not really recommend it to most people, given the hefty price tag, and all the better competitors out there. If you are on iOS, I would recommend the Apple Watch SE as the best value for most people. On Android, Huawei Watches are the best for heart rate tracking, and if you do want to focus on sleep tracking, just get a cheap Fitbit Device, which will have the same performance as this Pixel Watch. Therefore, overall, I can only give the Pixel Watch: 3 out of 5 stars.

It's a decent first entry for Google. I hope they catch up to Apple as they are the clear frontrunner. However, Google is notorious for using software to solve their hardware problems. I wonder if more long term use will generate more accurate results as Google loves their algorithms.

Thank you as always. I was hoping that you'd get your hands on one right away. I even tagged you on Google's tweets 😅 hope they noticed if you weren't already in touch with them!
I ended up getting a Fitbit sense 1 as it is discounted 50% off. In the long run this will probably be my dedicated sleep device and I'll get something else like an apple watch or a future generation pixel watch for day use.
I'll swap devices around during evening and day so they can charge while not in use. For example charge a pixel watch or apple watch in the evening while I wear the sense during the night.
It would be awesome if you could do another review of the older sense of even popular older devices to see how well software updates have done as the older devices have aged and also some would have added newer features over time too.

I am always so interested and grateful for your video reviews. I love the in depth testing. Often its just a curiosity to see how the technology across the board is improving but sometimes, like in this video, I am particularly interested because I have a direct interest in the product itself. When it was first announced I was very interested in the Pixel Watch especially because I was planning on buying a new Pixel 7 Pro phone (first new phone in many years) and thought this would be a nice companion. Some early reviews though really caused me to put a pause on the purchase. The size and battery life (especially) I found unsatisfactory. Your analysis of the health tracking also confirmed what I thought. Always be wary of First Generation productions. I do hope Google will really try hard to make a strong functioning device soon.

If you’re still refining it, it seems like a good test would be correlation with an iPhone or other modern smart phone. When I’m running with my Apple Watch, I notice these kind of sways where the GPS is imperfect, but they almost never happen on my iPhone.
For iPhone/Apple watch specifically you can use family set up so the watch is functional but not connected to your Apple ID.

I am torn between the two, I do like the look of the Pixel Watch but there are few things that's putting me off the Pixel W - very limited exercise options compared to GW5 Pro, speaker quality during my call test was awful, it sounded as if the speaker was blown. Even on my small wrist the watch looks tiny, battery life not great, GPS during a walk was very inconsistent.

I don't wear rings in general but if a company comes up with a product that indeed measures the metrics accurately that they claim to measure, then I can consider buying one. So you are a good reference point. As far as I remember, Oura ring was good at nothing. Recommendation : Do surveys among your followers to see how many of your followers are wearing which of the 68 watches you tested.

Heart rate, sleep, and step tracking is pretty accurate, it's best option for those that want a smartwatch with accurate data on android (compared to samsung galaxy watch 5). Only con is the battery life.

Even though being a Pixel user, I am tempted by Pixel Watch,
With your review, I think I stick to my Charge 4 and get a 2nd Gen Pixel Watch next year.

    To-notch content, thank you!!
I know it is very subjective, but have you ever thought of trying/testing Apollo Neuro? I'd LOVE to see someone testing it alongside with Fitbit Sense 2 (mostly for fun, because a lot about stress perception is subjective, of course)! Do you think it makes sense pairing both or am I tripping? lol I'm excited to check out your Fitbit Sense 2 review and as soon as I decide witch one I'm buying, I'll make sure to try your links first (Canada here)!

Do you think the inaccuracies are due to hardware or software? Hopefully the inacurracies can be corrected with software upgrades over time.

Hey Rob, you test most devices in initial conditions. Please also test some devices at a later date to see if their accuracy improves. e.g. Fitbit Charge 5

Rob, thanks to your smartwatch review, I use the Fitbicharge5 well. I recently changed to Android and am looking for a replacement for Apple Watch. Thanks to your review, sleep tracking was also used well to help with insomnia. Fitbitsense2 came out recently, and I'm curious about your scientist review. I'm always enjoying your channel, thank you

Have you considered whether the type of band on the watch and how well it adjusts has any impact on sensor performance?

I really appreciate your channel, before you all the sources we had where very biased and subjective opinions from these so called "tech reviewers". With your scientific and data driven approach we now have truly unbiased information to make better decisions on which of these products to get. Keep up the great work.

Great video, great data. Shame I bought the Pixel watch just after launch (via the Google Store, sorry). I had considered the Huawei Watch GT Runner based on your earlier reviews, which seems the best for the Android ecosystem, but I wanted a FitBit for its calorie tracking and deficit/weight-loss feature that worked for me before. I guess the Pixel Watch was a good choice for my needs, although not perfect.

I'm getting ready to leave for work. I just casually check TH-cam and ur video was first and im calculating time for the possibility to watch and then leave 😅. Was looking forward to this video and seeing it I decided to watch it properly and then leave for work. Great video as usual. Mostly pixel 2 is the one I'll go for hoping they would bring a bigger option. Thanks for this good video.

Thanks for going through the trouble of making this highly detailed review. It's really helped me to decide whether or not to keep my pixel watch.
Since the Pixel watch is falling way behind its main rivals in tracking even the most basic of activities, I will be returning the watch and, hopefully, get myself one of the better performing budget watches. Thanks, once again.

Your reviews are by far the best in YT! Any chance of reviewing the Wellue/Viatom O2Ring? I wonder how it compares to the (not very good) Apple Watch SpO2 and a "proper" finger SpO2 sensor. Thank you!!

This confirms my own experience, which was why I gave up on Fitbit a few years ago. HR is pretty hopeless and misses out on the peaks. You always show Fitbit to be excellent at sleep tracking, which I'm not interested in.
PS Garmin Forerunner 255 appears on your HR watch comparison charts but I can't find your specific 255 video. Did you release one?

nice detailed review! time well spent watching it, even tough technically I did not respect your recommendations, since I own a sense 2 and am waiting for the pixel watch lte (as a gift for my pixel 7 pro preorder).
did laugh at the 'girlfriend part'. for some reason, your voice and facial expression made me think of JoeWo, a popular Warzone streamer. so there you go, you are the JoeWo of smartwatch testing!
