I was hoping that we could get the game 2025, now though I don’t even know if we’ll get it by 2026. That’s what sucks. Hype has been pretty dead and luckily recently had an upwards trend. But the fact they don’t have torch animations and that’s something they are choosing to show does make me fear of the current state of the game

Hytale seems to be going for colored lights. Torches used to have the same white light but the new render gives them orange tint. You can even see it in the tree, I wonder if the new render system allows for more colours considering that this property used to be kind of exclusive
while i personally prefer the older scarak look, i think this new look makes more sense with the lore and i like that. they mentioned they always intended to make them alien-adjacent, and the new designs are definitely more that
I feel the same, while the old design felt more natural I wouldn't have thought anything of them past the fact they're bugs. Now I wonder, are they alien-adjacent because they consumed otherworldly material, or did they come from another world entirely? Both sound plausible, or maybe something else entirely.
they went from bulky swarming bugs that probably communicated with pheromones or bioluminescence to some kind of robot alien creature that is supposed to be really smart in the lore yet still lives in dirt holes. the red muscle part also makes 0 sense when it comes to evolution since all you need to do is damage it once.
New Scaraks do look nice, but yeah i think they could be a bit darker. Also, they're a bit symmetrical. Intelligent or mindless, these things are in a harsh environment, so them not having dent, scares, or chips on their amor feels a bit off putting. Especially the shield one; its purpose is to take hits, yet it looks brand new, and the chips it has are mirrored on both sides, making it seem more like thats not even a chip, just its natural physiology.
Being an apex predator doesn’t automatically make something untouchable. Apex predators still have to deal with threats, rivalries, and environmental challenges that leave marks on them. We're only apex cause of our thinking abilities, and we regularly get beat by animals, and show scares because of it.
Yeah I agree, it’d be a super cool detail to have procedurally generated (I’m not game dev guy I think this is the term) to randomize nics and scars on the enemies would go a very long way (and be very difficult to implement) for immersion😊
pretty lack luster blogpost, but I think their end goal for the new engine was to get the game to work flawlessly on different platforms. But this delays the game release by YEARS sadly

the newer designs for a lot of the mobs seem more cartoonish if im being honest they are not bad designs but i kinda liked the more gritty designs from the old engine. maybe ill just have to get used to them as I do like the concept art however the actual models seemed very bright which im not sure im a fan of.
If the engine was "basically" done, they would have said so as that is a very exciting milestone. I give it another year before the engine is complete.

@@MrKratos105 Well, they probably have more but didn't want to show more (or nothing worth showing). You don't really deal with things like models, lights and details like that until your engine is done. So the fact they are doing so is promising.
@@drooskie9525 Making models and assets are what you do if your engine is capable of making models and assets. There are different parts of an engine. They have a team of over 100 people, so if the engine is capable of making models and assets then they'll delegate part of their team to making models and assets while the engine is being further developed. That's what we're seeing here. Animation, dynamic lighting, sound, physics, rendering, etc, etc -- You can make assets while these parts are still needing implemented. Please don't get your hopes up until you see in game, real-time footage from the new engine, like we were seeing every month with the old engine.

Yeah i think the old look for Scaraks was better, maybe add a bit more bioluminescence to them, but otherwise the new ones don't feel threatening at all
I'm a bit mixed on the scarak redesign, on one hand I like how awesome they look now but on the other hand I liked how terrifying the old design looked, maybe they can still use the old design as a separate mob? 🤔
Idk I much prefer Scaraks to just be the bug faction, generic some times works best, especially in a sandbox game like this where content can keep getting added without disturbing the game's integrity, if they wanted to do a more alien faction they should have separated it from the Scaraks, or maybe have them being just a different subspecies of Scaraks that got mutated after a comet fell into a hive
Honestly, I prefer the design of the old engine compared to the new one because of the blocks and the characteristic style of the hytale tree being more beautiful than it is now... And also the details of the stones that were reduced to just 2 large and medium stones.
I think you can still have more detailed stones. The engine is all about future-proofing and optimization. They may have just not re-made or shown the things you wanted to see. You've got to remember this all will also be highly modable.
All of what you said has to do with the assets, which can all be put into the new engine. Most likely is that these assets are placeholder and not final
This is what leads me to believe the first images were a lie just to hype people up and they haven’t actually built it from the ground up a second time they just didn’t get it exactly how they wanted it to look ~ like originally planned! Hypixel blatantly lied to us, John said we would get gameplay or pictures of the new engine. The video is not gameplay and we only got ONE picture. To rub salt into the wound, this picture and the video are of the SAME scene. And from the text, it seems the only working gameplay mechanic is knockback sticks. But Hypixel says they are going to be moving fast with the next phase of development... sure... then why are they telling us to wait until the end of the year for their next blog? It thought they were going to "ramp up communication" when they were "in a positiion to show off the new engine." So that's two lies now? The Scarak rework is good, but under no conditions was it necessary. The old scaraks look fine, don't you agree?. The decision to rework the Scaraks is proof that leadership of the game are perfectionist maniacs who shouldn't ever be trusted with a project.

Let's say hypothetically you are right and they are referring to a future blog post. It looks to me that the glowing mushrooms are the source of this Scarak fluid, and they’re adding more into it looking like they’re replenishing it You can even see a scarak in the background that looks to be harvesting another mushroom
nah the saturated look fits better for the vibe theyre trying to go for imo, the old design makes them feel like mindless bugs, but the new design is almost alien like and feels intelligent, which is what theyr are supposed to be like
@@SparkySharky I think the main thing i don't like is the way they textured them and also how their wings and other body parts are loose textures and not blocks if you know what i mean. I liked the old design but that's not the thing that bothers me.
I do like the new models, I just feel like they're too bright. Could just be the lighting, but I also don't really like how symmetrical they are. The concept art looks great, but the model, which isn't gonna be 1 to 1 but still, is awkward. They're intelligent yeah, but these things are in the desert, so seeing them so shiny, with no real dents or scrapes on their hardened parts just feels wrong. But again, I like the models, just think they could be touched up a bit.
@@Skarrier Yeah, I can totally see them as a group that's not so much collectively evil, but only aggressive or defensive because they're tired of adventurers using "they're only bugs" as an excuse to tromp into their homes to loot and pillage. I'm interested to see how the lore ultimately plays out! :)

Remember guys this is just one faction of like hundreds of factions and bosses and it's like 10 out of like 20 or so classes of theirs. Also I do like the look it's really mysterious and alien like I bet colors play a huge part like they may glow red if angered or purple or something.
The old scarak designs LITERALLY terrify me, so I'm personally happier with the new designs ahaha, but even I think they are probably a bit too saturated, unless it is just to combat the darkness of the caves? But omg, if it's possible to befriend them, that would be so amazing 🥹 My mission stands at befriending everything in the Hytale world 💪
Calling a slow 5 second pan out of a cave "gameplay" is wild. I mean, I expected most of the engine changes to be backend, with no crazy visual changes, but wow this was a disappointing update after so long with nothing. I was hoping to see *something* interesting in game.
I really hope they don't change the hytale that much before launching, because for me these insects were perfect as they were before. Now you look very alien...
absolutely love the new scarak design definitely looks like they're supposed to have some alien tech instead of the original just looking like weird bugs that for some reason have alien tech I absolutely love the little scout's design the most, looking like bug futuristic security drones, and the idea of them flashing their wings to alert others of the players is so cool
This is a really sad look. This is not what should have been shown off This early again. It's like we're JUST getting back to step one 6 years later. They really should have just kept there head down and kept working till a beta.. cause right now they don't even have lighting fully done yet?! Crazy.
Yup I'd rather they just stop updating us altogether until they actually have something worth seeing, and by the looks of it, that will probably be 1-2 years away. I'm getting really sick and tired of seeing a new blog post and getting excited to finally see something after 5 years, only to be disappointed by 5 concept arts and a 10-second video that shows a before and after in the form of 2 single frames.
I think the upper torso of the warrior is far too bulky for the thin stalk holding it up. Additionally, the fact that the lower segment isn't armoured at all makes the the upper segment look even more top heavy. I also don't like that the forelimbs seem to only have one joint, being the elbow. They should have kept its general shape closer to that of the original, while finding a different way to get that human-like flexibility in the middle segment that they were going for. I also think the blade limbs should be on the ends of wrists, so as to provide more flexibility there, enabling a wider range of movement and better utility. I do like where the mindset seems to be, giving it an almost humanoid upper segment. It definitely sells the idea of them being of a warrior morphology belonging to a sapient species. Such a body shape would allow martial arts to arise, different fighting techniques and the like.
Did anyone "fall in love with" the style? As it currently is it needs to big update, it's so muted, I think it'll be good with a texture redesign that's more crisp instead of just looking like every other minecraft bootleg

i too was disappointed with the blogpost but this comment is very silly. The new engine was never about the graphics, it was about multi-platform access, stability, performance etc. which is the base of the game.

For instance, a few weeks ago, many people were hating hytale because of its looks, resembling a minecraft rip off, and the major argument from the fans was that the game was bad looking because of the old engine.

Not to mention, they said that by the end of this year, they will have the most complete version of Hytale to date. That's only 5 months away-how the hell will that happen?
@@MrKratos105 You misunderstand again, although it's not your fault completely as their communication is very corporate. Not the "most complete" version, the "most functionally complete" version. A functionally complete version could mean the game being devoid of features (no story mode for ex.) - just a generated world BUT with all the networking stability, multi-platform compatibility, great performance metrics, in-game tools etc.
I like the new insects. They look like they came out a ps1 or dreamcast game. They are also more diferent, from the other monsters that look like skulls.
Scaraks were loved bcz their buglike features, I am 100% sure that no one thought them as aliens when they see them first at trailer they litteraly changed that faction completely, rhey should have add another faction instead of removing only bug faction in game Now all bugs will be same
Not a fan of new Scarak designs. They are not intimidating in the slightest now. The are far too bright and losing their battle scars takes away a piece of the visual story telling with their designs that i found added to their scare factor. They now just give me the vibe that they are too drone-like to care about me doing anything. They almost feel robotic in nature. The old ones definitely still needed heavy redisigns but honestly i'd rather have the old ones than these.

This Blogpost was incredibly disappointing. I was expecting actual in-game gameplay, not a 10-second slideshow comparing the old engine to the new one, which looks exactly the same. What were they thinking? At this rate, this game is never coming out, and I don't think it even matters anymore. All my friends who were excited about the game couldn't care less now; they have completely forgotten about it, and I think I should too.
There's games that have been in development for years longer than Hytale and are still being worked on. I think they definitely could've set more reasonable expectations from the start, but it's not an unbelievably long time for a game of this scale.
When you have Vintage Story already out and fully playable and Hytale making tiny uodates like this with little substance it's incredibly hard to have any hope of release. It feels like the usual kickstarter that never comes out at this point.
What bothers me about the new concept of scaracks is that they seem unthreatening, eyes too round and kind, if they had something like bee eyes that were more stretched out, looking irritated. or the eyes act like a cat's pupil contracting, the jaw of the 2 largest concepts having 4 teeth and a more threatening shape, if the warrior's face had 4 teeth like the concept of the last 2.
I think the new Scaraks feel less individually scary, but more... coherent? Easier to see as a clearly-defined faction instead of just a bunch of creepy-crawlies.
To be honest. I like the design but there is NOTHING SCARY about this design. Nothing threatening at all. Old version was scarier. This one looks like bumblebee bug. Doesn't even look uncanny too. Its just incapable of being threatening in my eyes😅
The new scarak warrior’s back area looks very odd to me. The old wings it had made it seem more bug like. Plus the bright orange color doesn’t look correct compared to the old brown look.
6:53 I greatly prefer the giant bugs being less ""scary"" as that is a trope used to oblivion. I really hope scaraks arent just pure villains or something but rather a faction that just wishes to survive, with the potential of even allying with them.
Maybe if you choose to befriend them their designs will be this bright and colorful model, but chosing to befriend the ferens instead will make them battleworn and scary... I need something to justify these colorful robots. I loved the realistic bugs
I wonder if it's possible lore wise for them to implement the older Scarak design as a "lesser form" of the current Scarak. Would make for an interesting dichotomy and perhaps result in "in fighting" between the two. One has a more "perfected artificial form" while the others lean more into their "naturalistic primal forms". Meh, someone will probably just mod em back in lol
Judging the reception of the old engine on twitter a few weeks ago this game is gonna get cooked big time if they go for this vibrant rioty mobile game aesthetic. I'll be honest I don't really like what I saw too.

They usually suck up honey, bloating their abdomens, before feeding other members of the colony by essentially regurgitating the mixture. With each Scarak design supposedly having a place within a bigger hierarchy. Perhaps these little fellas serve the purpose of feeders? Neat to think about!
I was in 5th grade when Hytale first started its development, and now I'm in my 2nd year of college, and yet nothing has come out of it I'm still optimistic with the game, though, but i think I'll graduate and get a job before Hytale is even ready for launch and by the time it did i don't think I'll have the time to play it 😅
Ooh, that teal fluid could be some form of juvenile Scarak nourishment, similar to how mammals produce milk for their young, or more fitting, how larval bees make nectar & honey with a mix of pollen they collect from flowers & the wax they produce naturally. I hypothesize that those glowing trees/stalks could be the Scarak equivalent of a blossoming flower.
i think the new scarak designs are SOOO much better for so many reasons i couldn't even begin to put to words- i have full trust in the design team and artists honestly, they are bringing out a wonderful world :3
The Scarak Warrior reminds me of Bumblebee the Transformer, mixed with some aspects of the floating castle in the final stage of the game "Ape Escape". I'm excited to see this continue.

The new Scaraks look like an alien bug kingdom, with the last two designs looking like a queen and a king and with the bigger guard Scarak next to them looking like a royal guard or sorts. They're looking absolutely amazing
One thing I'm wondering still, about the adventure mode, is how they are going to express the story to the player. Will there be voice acting? Text based? Will there be milestones/quests? Or will it just be like MC with implied "story"... Can't wait for blog posts that explain this.

Kind of reminded of the Qirajis and Nerubians from WoW. But mostly Nerubians from the War Within Types.

They would need to have a variant system then, otherwise they’d all have the same damaged appearance in the same spots.

Hypixel blatantly lied to us, John said we would get gameplay or pictures of the new engine. The video is not gameplay and we only got ONE picture. To rub salt into the wound, this picture and the video are of the SAME scene. And from the text, it seems the only working gameplay mechanic is knockback sticks. But Hypixel says they are going to be moving fast with the next phase of development... sure... then why are they telling us to wait until the end of the year for their next blog? It thought they were going to "ramp up communication" when they were "in a positiion to show off the new engine." So that's two lies now?
The Scarak rework is good, but under no conditions was it necessary. The old scaraks look fine, don't you agree?. The decision to rework the Scaraks is proof that leadership of the game are perfectionist maniacs who shouldn't ever be trusted with a project.
I doubt this is the gameplay blogpost seeing how it is not called that nor is it made by John specifically

Let's say hypothetically you are right and they are referring to a future blog post. Well, that doesn't change the fact that they lied, considering they also said that the next blog will be John's, and it ended up being a collab blog.

14:38 it seems you failed to notice (or at least mention) the pile of mushrooms. It looks to me that the glowing mushrooms are the source of this Scarak fluid, and they’re adding more into it looking like they’re replenishing it
You can even see a scarak in the background that looks to be harvesting another mushroom

nah the saturated look fits better for the vibe theyre trying to go for imo, the old design makes them feel like mindless bugs, but the new design is almost alien like and feels intelligent, which is what theyr are supposed to be like
@@SparkySharky I think the main thing i don't like is the way they textured them and also how their wings and other body parts are loose textures and not blocks if you know what i mean. I liked the old design but that's not the thing that bothers me.
I do like the new models, I just feel like they're too bright. Could just be the lighting, but I also don't really like how symmetrical they are. The concept art looks great, but the model, which isn't gonna be 1 to 1 but still, is awkward. They're intelligent yeah, but these things are in the desert, so seeing them so shiny, with no real dents or scrapes on their hardened parts just feels wrong. But again, I like the models, just think they could be touched up a bit.
I prefer the old bug texture, they look like coordinated wasps while the blue bugs looks more cyberpunk vibe

@@Skarrier Yeah, I can totally see them as a group that's not so much collectively evil, but only aggressive or defensive because they're tired of adventurers using "they're only bugs" as an excuse to tromp into their homes to loot and pillage. I'm interested to see how the lore ultimately plays out! :)

From a game designer, the last two bugs seems to be king and queen, you can tell from the silhouette and the crown like edges
The queen has gracile and cute thorax
Remember guys this is just one faction of like hundreds of factions and bosses and it's like 10 out of like 20 or so classes of theirs. Also I do like the look it's really mysterious and alien like I bet colors play a huge part like they may glow red if angered or purple or something.

Calling a slow 5 second pan out of a cave "gameplay" is wild.
I mean, I expected most of the engine changes to be backend, with no crazy visual changes, but wow this was a disappointing update after so long with nothing. I was hoping to see *something* interesting in game.
I really hope they don't change the hytale that much before launching, because for me these insects were perfect as they were before. Now you look very alien...

Yup I'd rather they just stop updating us altogether until they actually have something worth seeing, and by the looks of it, that will probably be 1-2 years away. I'm getting really sick and tired of seeing a new blog post and getting excited to finally see something after 5 years, only to be disappointed by 5 concept arts and a 10-second video that shows a before and after in the form of 2 single frames.

I think the upper torso of the warrior is far too bulky for the thin stalk holding it up. Additionally, the fact that the lower segment isn't armoured at all makes the the upper segment look even more top heavy. I also don't like that the forelimbs seem to only have one joint, being the elbow. They should have kept its general shape closer to that of the original, while finding a different way to get that human-like flexibility in the middle segment that they were going for. I also think the blade limbs should be on the ends of wrists, so as to provide more flexibility there, enabling a wider range of movement and better utility.
I do like where the mindset seems to be, giving it an almost humanoid upper segment. It definitely sells the idea of them being of a warrior morphology belonging to a sapient species. Such a body shape would allow martial arts to arise, different fighting techniques and the like.
Did anyone "fall in love with" the style? As it currently is it needs to big update, it's so muted, I think it'll be good with a texture redesign that's more crisp instead of just looking like every other minecraft bootleg

i too was disappointed with the blogpost but this comment is very silly. The new engine was never about the graphics, it was about multi-platform access, stability, performance etc. which is the base of the game.

For instance, a few weeks ago, many people were hating hytale because of its looks, resembling a minecraft rip off, and the major argument from the fans was that the game was bad looking because of the old engine.

Not to mention, they said that by the end of this year, they will have the most complete version of Hytale to date. That's only 5 months away-how the hell will that happen?

Not the "most complete" version, the "most functionally complete" version. A functionally complete version could mean the game being devoid of features (no story mode for ex.) - just a generated world BUT with all the networking stability, multi-platform compatibility, great performance metrics, in-game tools etc.
I like the new insects. They look like they came out a ps1 or dreamcast game. They are also more diferent, from the other monsters that look like skulls.

Not a fan of new Scarak designs. They are not intimidating in the slightest now. The are far too bright and losing their battle scars takes away a piece of the visual story telling with their designs that i found added to their scare factor. They now just give me the vibe that they are too drone-like to care about me doing anything. They almost feel robotic in nature.
The old ones definitely still needed heavy redisigns but honestly i'd rather have the old ones than these.

This Blogpost was incredibly disappointing. I was expecting actual in-game gameplay, not a 10-second slideshow comparing the old engine to the new one, which looks exactly the same. What were they thinking? At this rate, this game is never coming out, and I don't think it even matters anymore. All my friends who were excited about the game couldn't care less now; they have completely forgotten about it, and I think I should too.
There's games that have been in development for years longer than Hytale and are still being worked on. I think they definitely could've set more reasonable expectations from the start, but it's not an unbelievably long time for a game of this scale.
on top of that the new engine looks worse then the old one it looks like a crap mobile game
When you have Vintage Story already out and fully playable and Hytale making tiny uodates like this with little substance it's incredibly hard to have any hope of release.
It feels like the usual kickstarter that never comes out at this point.

What bothers me about the new concept of scaracks is that they seem unthreatening, eyes too round and kind, if they had something like bee eyes that were more stretched out, looking irritated. or the eyes act like a cat's pupil contracting, the jaw of the 2 largest concepts having 4 teeth and a more threatening shape, if the warrior's face had 4 teeth like the concept of the last 2.
I think the new Scaraks feel less individually scary, but more... coherent? Easier to see as a clearly-defined faction instead of just a bunch of creepy-crawlies.

The new scarak warrior’s back area looks very odd to me. The old wings it had made it seem more bug like. Plus the bright orange color doesn’t look correct compared to the old brown look.
The Scarak Scout really reminds me of mutant fireflies from Ratchet and Clank 2

Maybe if you choose to befriend them their designs will be this bright and colorful model, but chosing to befriend the ferens instead will make them battleworn and scary... I need something to justify these colorful robots. I loved the realistic bugs

I was in 5th grade when Hytale first started its development, and now I'm in my 2nd year of college, and yet nothing has come out of it
I'm still optimistic with the game, though, but i think I'll graduate and get a job before Hytale is even ready for launch and by the time it did i don't think I'll have the time to play it 😅
Ooh, that teal fluid could be some form of juvenile Scarak nourishment, similar to how mammals produce milk for their young, or more fitting, how larval bees make nectar & honey with a mix of pollen they collect from flowers & the wax they produce naturally. I hypothesize that those glowing trees/stalks could be the Scarak equivalent of a blossoming flower.
i think the new scarak designs are SOOO much better for so many reasons i couldn't even begin to put to words- i have full trust in the design team and artists honestly, they are bringing out a wonderful world :3

The new Scaraks look like an alien bug kingdom, with the last two designs looking like a queen and a king and with the bigger guard Scarak next to them looking like a royal guard or sorts. They're looking absolutely amazing
One thing I'm wondering still, about the adventure mode, is how they are going to express the story to the player. Will there be voice acting? Text based? Will there be milestones/quests? Or will it just be like MC with implied "story"... Can't wait for blog posts that explain this.
