Only Schiff would choose this sonata for an encore. I have to wonder if ANYONE has ever played it as such. It's relatively unplayed to begin with and like the other 31 it's a diamond of the highest caliber. Love it!
This is one of the best performances ever, I think my new favorite one - how beautiful he plays the main theme at 0:26, and listen how he emphasizes the lower voice at 3:02 and 8:05
Sometimes Japanese close their eyes in public because they actually sleep. Unpaid overwork is a big issue in Japan and you will find Japanese use every opportunity to get some sleep for example in the train, during meetings at work or a solemn concert. Sleeping in public has a good image in Japan and is seen as prove that the person works hard and thus needs to rest. I don’t say this audience is sleeping here but some people whose eyes are closed could actually sleep or nap.

It's astounding the amount of music Schiff has played, he may not have the greatest technique but his touch and musicality is almost unrivalled in my opinion. A pianists pianist no doubt.
@@kennywood6434 his technique is not the reason for his huge repertory, Horowitz had good technique but by his own admission a small repertoire. Schiff has a great mind that is why.
love schiff's playing so much, and this piece.

It is not possible to listen to this performance and not feel there is hope for humanity yet❤
One of Beethoven's own favourite sonatas
In Beethoven the classical-romantic sonata reaches fullest flower.❤ Schiff-Andras brings it to life in this remarkable gem of a performance❤

Yes!
incredible sonata! The first movement is played lovely
The audience is so incredibly attentive! You won't find such a non-coughing closed-eyed audience in Europe!
I'm the same attentive way just sitting in front of my computer!! I was about to write the same thing you wrote.

Try America
And you'll understand what an obscene audience means.
Bösendorfer is unrivalled. What a sound !
This is the only Beethoven sonata to open with a theme that never returns. It is a true introduction.
7:54 second movement. He looks so cheerful and happy!
Let's see.
👏👏👏👏👏🌺💐❤️💕💕💕💕
7:54 allegro vivace
7:54 Rule Britannia

Cool.

I sometimes wonder if it is possible to play Beethoven in a decidedly Mozartian style.
Here you have the answer 😉
@@bubffm well, it sounds like Schumann here and there.

That sounds like a musical challenge.
Did he play the entire sonata as an encore?
I once heard him play the entire Italian Concerto as an encore AFTER four Beethoven sonatas on his program in Ann Arbor.

@@chester6343He has phenomenal technique. THAT is one of THE biggest reasons he's able to cover the vast amount of repertoire you mentioned.

@chester6343 no one builds a rep with their mind. Strong technique is a must for any large rep. It's, literally, what allows you to keep building.
