The way I see it, the Jackhammer isn’t as practical as the shotgun, but it’s way more fun to use which is why I use it. I love flinging myself across a room, making people explode.
The jackhammer for me is actually really cool, I'm seeing what people are able to do, and now seeing that you can counter the coin with the jackhammer is also very cool. I love this game and it will never get old for me.

Fun fact about iackhammer: The recoil depends on your camera position at the end of the hitstop. This means you can whiplash into an enemy, hit them facing forward, and then launch yourself any direction you choose.

As someone who also prefers shotguns, i recommend that you only switch the overpump to a jackhammer. This way, you can keep the stupidly powerful explosion, while allowing yourself to shotgun swap without the overpump, which is more effective since the overpump deals less damage when its not charged.
Fun fact: overcharged jackhammer does way less dmg to you than overcharged shotgun, but also does way more dmg to enemies making it overpowered compared to 3 charges jackhammer

to answer the question from 7-4, the jackhammer is considered a melee weapon. well, its described as one by the game anyway. hence, it can destroy idols. it'd be cool for a melee only challenge if it werent for how late you got the weapon, ngl
if you could projectile boost with that then I'd use it, I'm the player who either quickdraws with alt revolver, spam parry and projectile boost, and get as much coin style as physically possible
