I know you keep saying about if you could weld you might have done the rack differently, But I think you did a great job and help a lot of other people had they can build a roof rack without a welder. I'm going to copy part of how you did yours..
You might just be the person I need. Looking for a 2005 AWD for special project. Really just a good roller cause I have custom engine and goodies. Any references...🤔✌️😎
I don't have a source for one but they are out there - The numbers on these things are going through the roof, though.... I still look them up on Craigslist and marketplace just to see what's out there.
@@AstroVanTribe I ideally am looking for a 2005 roller. It has the larger brakes and suspension, and of course, the newer, the better condition, (theoretically) I have a 1999 with everything but motor and trans is new for sale
@AU MetalMental well, stay tuned, when I do get to a salvage yard you'll see what I stumble across - you could start calling salvage yards asking what they have
Thanks for trying, I found where you said that it was around a thousand dollars. I like the design, I think I can make some aluminum shims between the L brackets and the L rails to account for the curvature of the roof. I think I can pull it off on either a belt or a disk sander with a jig.@@AstroVanTribe
@@haujeancontactee Thinking about it, there could be $600 - $800 in materials with all that unistrut hardware and bolts. The system is well engineered, I've had 5 people up there and have carried over a tone of lumber several times. Low profile and no wind noise on the highway.
@@AstroVanTribe I think it's perfect and it also protects your roof from scratches without being too high to hang up on branches. I'm going to build one this winter.
Always cool to see DIY solutions/executions.

Thanks, man.... It's still a "work in progress" too, so it'll morph a bit more
I think you nailed it. very interested in making my own deck . but will probably still your design 🤔 . thanks for the videos.
Thanks again you gem of a man 🎉
I once heard a guy that said "cool shit ain't cheap". That is a cool roof rack 😎👊
Nice thing about strut, its endless possibilities for attaching things and removing them. mqn, cap screws a couple of angle brackets and walla 😁
It's been working out great
It looks really good.
Looking Great !!
Your "welder" guy sounds like a pretty cool dude ...
Ha, ha....! He just needs to get a dozen of them skid plates knocked out....! :D
LKQ Pick-A-Part in the city of Monrovia is your best bet if you're going to the junkyard in Los Angeles County
I damaged a bus windshield once with grinder sparks. It is a tough lesson to learn.

Mike what was the total cost to build this roof rack?
I don't know - I know I talk about it in the videos but I really don't recall - Prices were inflated due to the flu shortages

I have the van with the swing open doors and they still sell the ladders for them. Your top deck design is perfect for star gazing.@@AstroVanTribe
