Are you travelling this summer (or winter, if you are in the southern hemisphere), where to? Fasting: yes or no? Have you tried it, what was your experience?

I’m in Melbourne, so winter. I went up north to tropical North Queensland a few weeks ago. It was wonderful to get out of the cold and have sunshine on my face.
I was doing 12-14 hour fasting a few years ago. It helped my drop some weight after a medical issue. Luckily, I seem to be able to keep menopausal issues under control with limiting stress, caffeine and alcohol. Enough sleep and water help too.

We are in the US and we are headed to the keys south of Florida. I have been intermittent fasting for about a year now and things I have found are an unexpected weight loss of about 10 pounds which put me right at the weight I always feel best at. Also less bloating, and better sleep as a whole although some nights I still wake up, and can’t go back to sleep.

Hi Diane, my vacation plans are actually to go to Copenhagen for just a couple of days. I'm in Sweden, so it's not too long of a trip. But I don't exactly know what to do when I'm there except for strolling on Ströget, eating some smörrebröd and reading books... Any suggestions? And where do I get the best smörrebröd? Anything else? I will get there by train, so no car to go around with.
Oh, and yes, I am on the intermittent fasting train - doing the 16/8 (12-20 is my eating window), and I feel great even though I don' experience much weightloss unfortunately. I could really use some kilos lost, so I guess I will have to watch the sugar-intake...

I was recently diagnosed with Diabetes at the bottom range it was pointed out that I was a stone heavier than I had been a year ago, my downfall was grazing on sweet things after 7 pm. overnight Intermittent fasting has helped, and actually watching what I eat so far It has been a slow and steady loss and drinking water. Overall I actually feel better.

Hi Diane,. I'm 72 and have been doing intermittent fasting (16/8) combined with keto for the last 3 months. I have (effortlessly) lost 36 pounds. Keto has become a lifestyle for me. I am NEVER hungry and eat healthy proteins, lots of non-starchy vegetables, and (fortunately) don't have to give up butter. 💛. I haven't had any cravings for my beloved French bread/croissants, or dark chocolate - although I could have a bit of dark chocolate if I wanted to on keto. For me, keto is painless and intermittent fasting is healthy and great for the digestive system. I eat within my 8 hour eating window until I'm pleasantly full and then have a handful or two of raw almonds, walnuts or pistachios near the end of that window. I've never been big on sweets so that hasn't been a sacrifice. I have always had a robust appetite,.but once you stop eating sugar and keep carbs low (20-30), you don't get cravings for sweets, pasta, bread, etc. I'm making hot wings for my main meal today with a large green salad. All meats on keto are grass-fed/organic, eggs organic and cage free. I drink lots of spring water and can drink all the iced coffee I want using stevia as my sweetener and mixing half and half with Starbucks ice coffee. After 3 mos., I feel 20 years younger and my OA hardly bothers me any more. I do lazy laps in our saline pool for 60-90 mins 4-5 times/ week and I sleep through the night. My insomnia is a thing of the past. ELIMINATING SUGAR and keeping carbs low is the key, whether or not weight loss is your goal. For me, it's been nothing short of miraculous.

❤How did you get started on fasting and a healthy way of eating 👍⁉️

    • @tiamia7139
      @tiamia7139 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@elcehlLast April, I decided to give keto a try after I hit 200 lbs. (5'7"). I lost 10 pounds the first week. I ate organic, free range eggs and organic bacon for breakfast most mornings. For dinner, a small steak, pork chop, hot wings, salmon, cod, tuna fish or juicy 1/2 lb. cheeseburger (grass fed, 80/20 organic beef) for dinner. I'll steam broccoli or make a large green salad with balsamic vinaigrette or blue cheese dressing to go with it. Remember, you need the fat to BURN fat. My appetite dwindled rapidly on keto and no cravings! I would eat breakfast around 7 and "linner" at 3 or 4...and fast until the morning. The weight fell off and I never felt deprived. Everyone is different, but Keto+intermittent fasting really works for me. I'm still on keto and have lost 57 lbs. since April. I sleep great, feel energetic and am mentally sharp. I look 15 years younger. The hardest thing is hitting those weight plateaus. They can last a couple weeks when you are nearing your weight goal. I was on one for 3 weeks recently. 🤬 I bumped up the water, extended my fasting to 17 hrs. (painless) and dropped 5 lbs in 3 days. Consistency is the key to successI I haven't had any bread, candy, chocolate - nothing non-keto in 6 months. I snack on nuts - almonds and walnuts. Stay away from cashews, peanuts and pistachios as too high in carbs. I LOVE pistachios but they are dangerous for me to be around! 😅 For me, keto has become a lifestyle. Good luck!

BIG YES to fasting! So many reasons, the most dramatic of which is it has restored my relationship with food. Before I started fasting, I couldn't go more than 2 hours without feeling as though I was ravenously hungry. I wasn't truly, but I felt like I was starving to death. After 3 days of fasting for just 12 hours, my (probably sugar) cravings were gone. For the first time I could go for hours between meals and only felt hungry when I was ACTUALLY hungry. Now my goal is to get to 18-20 hours for about 2 weeks every month, (thanks to Dr. Mindy Pelz and her book Fast Like A Girl) to get some cellular repair benefits. Good luck to you!

I have been fasting 18/6 for years.. now added in 25/32/72 hr fasts.. finally loosing my covid/divorce/depression/menopause weight gain. Lost 18kg since January..still more to go.. but looking forward to being fit and healthy again. Fasting has solved my acid reflux, swollen joints/ankles, blood pressure, helping with hot flushes and insomnia, reducing insulin resistance, improving me depression, etc..now working on cholesterol and other blood values. So excited for my blood test at the end of the year.

Hi Diane I started with fasting or intermittent fasting as it's know here - shortening the window of eating and it's been very helpful. The real game changer has been eating some crudités perhaps with a little humous before the main meal. I read a very good article about reducing the blood sugar surges that can occur and I am 10 years older and was keen to avoid pre-diabetes as I had gained some weight looking after my senior pooch. Not only do I feel more energised from my food I know it's helping long term and I have lost 12lbs in the process - a new puppy is probably also helping with that. I think it makes me more mindful of how much I am eating and I intend to continue basically forever - I always had a healthy diet but probably a little too big a portion! Love from Scotland ❤

Hello from Scottsdale, AZ USA. Intermittent fasting for 16 months or so. I am 73. Have lost 14 lbs. Beginning to gain a pound or so so I need to tweek my approach. I am not overweight but I do feel more lively lighter! I am not terribly strict now but have seen health benefits with the fasting. Blood sugar (never high) has gotten lower, A1c is better, Insulin resistance great! Once you have been doing it for a while you really don't have cravings or much hunger. Good luck to you, Diane. Enjoy your holiday travels.

I was excited to hear that you are doing intermittent fasting. I hope it continues to help you. I have been doing it for 15 months and I love it. I eat brunch and dinner and that suites me just fine. I have much more energy, I sleep deeper, my brain fog is gone and my digestion is better than it has been in decades. In addition to the fasting I have recently begun implementing a few very simple guidelines taught by Jessie Inchauspe (Glucose Goddess) who wrote Glucose Revolution and I feel even better, especially when it comes to post-menopausal complaints.
By the way, you always look especially lovely in that color of blue💙✨.

I did intermittent fasting about 35 years ago before I knew it was a thing. I discovered it by accident. 12/12. It worked great for my weight. I stopped when I started grad school; my schedule was too hard, with three jobs and two kids. I need to do it again, but I want to increase my protein level first. I didn't realize that I hadn't been eating 1/4 of the protein that I need over the age of 65 and I had a severe protein deficiency.

I have never heard of doing intermittent fasting for menopause symptoms. I am glad you are finding some relief from them. I have many issues from post-menopause, too. I have been intermittent fasting for about 3 years now. I stared out slowly - I just stopped eating after dinner. I do not like to eat when I first get up so it was a natural progression to intermittent fasting. I used to do 16 / 8, but now that I am 62 I dropped it to 13 to 14-hour fasting / 11 - 10-hour eating window. I am not totally strict with it. If I go out to dinner or breakfast, I just enjoy the meal and get back on the following day. I enjoyed seeing your flowers and cherries from the garden. Woo hoo! Our flowers aren't blooming yet but pretty soon I will have zinnias, sunflowers and wild flowers for my table.

We worked on the kitchen this week, we are passing on a crystal Mikasa bowl that doesn’t go with our decor, turns out our work friend collects them! We put a few kitchen appliances on probation and we are passing on a Lodge cast iron pot we never use. Thank you Diane, rah, rah, rah!

Hi, Diane. My family gathered in the mountains of North Carolina last week for a reunion. Folks came in from up and down the East Coast. Fun times! I have been intermittent fasting for almost two years now. I started as a way to counteract the bloating I was experiencing, and have felt much better. Have a wonderful day!

Have faced the bloating issues also - I’m a bit older than you - and I’ve found simple fasting until lunch helps that for me. Also being mindful of being full when I eat helps. 🤷🏻‍♀️ at this point I will try whatever feels right for my body on any particular day 😂. Cheers to you trying something new too!

I have been using the fly lady system for 3 years now, thanks to you. I liked your way of de-cluttering, not a once a year but a lifestyle. Today I saw some nice coffee mugs. 4 new ones came into the house and 4 out the door! I have a basket that I use for de-cluttering whilst cleaning. If I think I am not sure whether to keep the item or not I put the item into the basket and will go through it at the end of July. It takes the pain out of making a decision on the spot. I have got rid of 50% of our household items over a period of 3 years and the family are happy. One benefit is that the house looks good anytime. The other day I had an unexpected visitor and because of the morning routines etc etc. I could welcome the person. Thank you for your efforts and I enjoy watching you to keep me going.

I love this idea of the basket for decluttering. I’m going to try this! It’s kind of like a “time will tell” box (see the minimal mom) or like the “lost and found “ basket I had for the kids when they lived at home. But for myself. It will take some of the decision making out of decluttering. I’m at the same point in fly lady and decluttering as you are- 3 years! And I had the same experience this week with a friend dropping by and it being completely ok, even with my recently broken foot the house is completely fine! Thank you for sharing! Now to find a basket that hasn’t already been decluttered. Lol.

I’ve been thinking of initially starting with a 12 hour window to ease into it. Once I feel it’s a habit, reduce it by an hour each month. It will help with evening snacking and reducing my bloated feeling. I will be watching your journey ❤

That’s an interesting idea! I didn’t think, that intermittent fasting would work for me. But starting with 12:12 and extending step by step sounds doable! I’ll try it!

Yes, I find less carbs reduces bloating and inflammation. I skip breakfast to achieve 16 hr fast, not sure if it does anything tho! But I figure it gives my body more time to do repairs instead of having to digest food

I am enjoying fasting. What helps with sleep for me so far is to stop eating as early as possible so my stomach is more still and makes it easier to sleep. I stop eating anywhere from 3 to 5:00p.m. depending when i start and how i feel. I seems to help.

The sweet pea color is so pretty and the blue on you looks great! Best of luck with managing post-menopause. I'm 10yrs in and can be a bit of a roller coaster🙂🙃Not fasting at the moment. I was eating 11am - 8pm or 10am - 7pm. It was good for awhile but I noticed I was not eating enough, or portion size felt too big. The trick for me is to eat a Mediterranean way of eating, 3x day, I feel better overall and provides me lots of variety and I pay attention to eating the rainbow. Not to much processed carbs but not eliminating any food group either.

    Hello there!
I‘ve been going back and forth on the idea of fasting for quite some time now, because I feel like there are some hormonal changes going on. Your video reminded me on that topic again. I think I might take a closer Look on how fasting could work for me. ;)
